  1. I see you're flying the Union Jack. So assuming you live in the UK aren't your roads in Kph compared to MPH? You could also go through Ebay (American version) and order a gauge from it for probably cheap. Plenty of wrecked R6s out here and the gauge would be in MPH. You'd just have to go through the front of the gauge cluster to change your odometer back to the mileage that you have but that isn't too hard. Sweet ride. PS. Remember the conversions of the US dollar to the Euro(Not sure if that is what the UK uses). I know a buddy of mine who ordered a part from England for I think 50lbs but came out to close to a hundred or so U.S. dollars. Didn't find out until his credit card statement came in.
  2. If you are doing U-turns and such in which you keep jabbing down on the throttle. You could try putting it into 2nd gear. I'm not sure how powerful your bike is but for me I start in 1st to get going then put it in 2nd and keep the RPMs low. Even in 2nd if you jump down on it and your tach is at 2k you'll be okay because you won't be in your power for another 4-6k RPMs. And for a U-turn you could put it in 2nd and use a lot of clutch to keep from stalling out. Also for the turns you could possibly let go of the throttle and then bend your wrist downward some that way when you do accelerate your wrist won't go much farther down and you won't be putting heavy throttle into it.
  3. I have a 1994 Yamaha XJ600 SecaII. I'm wanting to convert it into a "Naked Bike" or what many call a "Street Fighter"(Not sure of the difference between the two). I do know there was a naked version of my bike that was specifically sold to Europe but not the States. I tried to hit up Ebay.UK trying to find headlamps and gauges. But no luck. So I guess I'm going to buy general gauges and a general headlamp and build some brackets for it. But before I dive headfirst into this I want to know if anyone has had some experience with this conversion or a similar conversion and if they have any advice. That way I don't make the same mistakes they do. More importantly I'd like to figure out how to clean up the wires. Any help is appreciated. I do have some pictures too... Here is the bike... Here is it striped down when I had to replace the gauge bulbs and decided I definetily wanted it naked... And here is a Naked XJ600... Again any help is apprecaited. Mark
  4. Clogged fuel filter??? With that bike being EFI you shouldn't have that problem.
  5. A 600cc bike is a good bike to start with that can also keep you excited the rest of your life. Any race oriented 600cc is going to outrun just about any car produced. As for riding new. One of my buddy's borrowed a friends R1 to get back to school (200mile drive) near Savannah, Georgia (U.S) from Atlanta, Georgia when he got stranded because our kayaking trip took longer than we thought. He also drove it for the week and had very little riding experience. Infact the first time he rode a street bike was an R1 while drunk at a party. So really any bike can be managable. But for cruising around town (especially the small short streets of say London) it's nice to have a Vtwin compared to a 4cyl. 4cyls require you to keep the RPMs up and if you are constantly stopping and going it gets annoying and tough on your clutch. While the Vtwins have so much low end torque you barely have to use clutch to get going. My buddy now owns a Suzuki SV650s. It's an awesome little bike that my buddy with the R1 says handles much better than his bike. It is also the wheelie master because of the low end torque. It runs just slower than your average sport 600 bike but is much easier to drive. We toped the speed out at 140mph (225kph) and it gets there fairly quick I know Yamaha's version of the Suzuki650 is the FZ6. I'm told it's not as fast as the SV650s but will still be quick enough to get your attention. Also insurance on the Vtwins are stupid cheap. My buddy pays $100 a year.
  6. I've always heard that English is a difficult language to master not necesarrily because of the words but our slang and the reasons demostrated in your post. For example I had a hat I got while drunk and at a gas station that said "Mucho Trabajo Paco Dinero". I had no clue what it meant I just thought it was funny. But a Mexican friend of mine translated it for me and it says "Much Work Little Money". He explained that we would normally say "I work a lot but do not make much money". While the Spanish keep it short. I'd really like to master Latin.
  7. What kind of car oil? I heard that using pure synthetic oil is alright for a bike if it's like 10w40. My bike has a lot of clutch slip but I'm sure it's from use. Which I have very little play in the clutch and it won't really engage until I let it all the way out nad then it still slips.
  8. But Big Brother is watching you
  9. Okay. I'm guilty of lusting for all of those fine products. But I am guilty of having a keg of Bud Light at my cousins wedding!!!
  10. Not sure about how affective polishing and porting is on an R1. I'm guessing it probably isn't a bad investment. It's a useful mod on a car so I think it would be good on a bike. However my buddy with an R1 is fixing to turbo his bike in a couple of months and is getting it done for $1,500. It's suppose to add 80hp. The guy doing it use to have an R1 and he turboed his bike. I believe he is going to port and polish the heads as part of the project. So if anything it might be worth doing so later on down the road you can modify the bike even more. But there is no replacement for smooth fast flowing air into your cylinders
  11. I just bought a 1994 XJ600 Seca2. I love the bike but I also bought it knowing that the bike needed some work. Such as new rear shock (To support my 220lb frame), new clutch, and also a new air filter. I'm wanting to get a new air filter next (Like a K&N) but can't figure out how to get to the air box. I believe it's under the gas tank but I have no clue how to get to it. Am I going to have to remove the front fairings, gas tank, etc to get to it? If so then how hard is it? Any help is appreciated Mark
