    Old leathers

In the short term, to penetrate and soften the leather, perhaps use something like this: http://www.hein-gericke.co.uk/shop/product...roducts_id/5361 Then maintain long term with a thicker product, like wax or dubbin. Jon

    Helmets?

They're making off-road helemts with a sun peak and a visor now, aka Adventure Helmets (Long way Down style), but they're still pricey: http://www.thevisorshop.com/acatalog/Produ...UR_X3__912.html You may get a different brand more cheaply. Jon
  3. Woohoo! Those are great bikes! I used to have one when we lived in Africa. They are very torquey, and you'll be able to do long powerslides and wheelies. Now I'm back in the UK, I have a 2007 FZ6 Fazer S2. Jon.
  4. Dudes, use earplugs! The wind noise will deafen you over time. I had the custom-fit silicon ones made. You can still hear horns/cars etc.

    Rain Ride

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one that hates riding in the rain and cold! Some sites have guys saying you're not a real biker if... etc. and that they don't ride any slower in the rain. I say with all the diesel spills, potholes, drain covers, etc. plus reduced visibility and cars with dirtymisted up screens it's a nightmare. I watch the weather forecast and use the car if it's gonna rain. It's easier to clean than the bike. I don't ride if it's gonna snow or be icy. Jon.
  6. I bought a new blue FZ6 Fazer S2 two weeks ago. Thinking about wind/rain protection for the hands. Yamaha sells fairing add-ons (they call them 'knuckle visors'). What do people think? I think I like them more than the black off-road type brush guards I was thinking about. http://www.yamaha-motor.co.uk/accessories/...essoryId=360843 Here's what they look like fitted: http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p22/ujo...iringinsert.jpg Price is £109.99 Jon.
  7. Here they are: http://www.yamaha-motor.co.uk/accessories/...essoryId=360843 Any thoughts? Jon.

    Heated grips

The genuine Yamaha heated grips are not cheap. Has anyone tried Oxford Hotgrips? I heard there were some reliability issues with the switch. Jon
  9. Has anyone fitted the fairing inserts to a Fazer S2? Yamaha calls them 'knuckle visors'. Thinking about it but not sure if they're worth £119. Jon.
  10. Can you fit crash bungs to a Fazer 600 S2? There doesn't seem to be a place to mount them, as the frame ends halfway down, then the motor hangs from there (if that makes sense). Jon.
  11. Yeah, that sounds like a good plan. Yamaha has messed up the ordering pretty badly this year, and they'll lose customers to other brands. Glad to hear your Fazer is still running okay with a high mileage. Jon.
  12. Thanks, Guys! I'm enjoying the new bike, just wish the weather was better! The bike's a mess already. I'll have to get out the cleaning stuff on Saturday. Jon.
  13. Picked up my new Fazer 600 S2 today. I had them fit a touring screen and Scottoiler dual injection before I picked it up. It runs very smoothly and the seating position is higher and more upright than the SV650S I had, which is just what I wanted. Lovely machine. Got home, waxed it, sprayed GT85 on all the metal bits, lowered the levers and took some free play out of the clutch and throttle. Sorted. http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p22/ujoni08/100_3324.jpg Jon.
  14. Haldir, if you're quick, there's a black non-ABS one at George White in Swindon, and a red ABS one at South Wales Superbikes in Newport. Good luck mate, Jon.
  15. I know, I've just traded in my 2005 Suzuki SV650S on a new Fazer S2 today, and the dealer was like (sudden inhalation) when he saw the mileage was 7800! In two years! If you find a car with that mileage it's like why haven't you driven it? Jon.
  16. Yep, I have a dehumidifier in the rafters of my garage. Got it from Screwfix for £89 (free postage) and it has a 5 litre tank. Great invention, and it's adjustable for fan speed and hygrostat sensitivity. My bike is dry and rust free. Jon.
  17. I found the last blue Fazer 600 S2 in Britain, right here in Cheltenham today and bought it on the spot! Woohoo! I can't sleep. Picking it up on Tuesday, after they PDI it and fit the fairing add-ons (knuckle visors in Yamaha's terms), touring screen and Scottoiler dual injector. Got a good price for my SV650S too. Glad to be back on a Yam! Jon.
  18. I rode over to South Wales Superbikes and they only have a red one with ABS. Blue ones are as scarce as hen's teeth. Yamaha didn't supply many Fazer S2s to the UK this year because the 2006 Fazer didn't sell well. Will phone further afield. Jon.
  19. Thanks, MJR. Yes, I sat on one in George White in Swindon. The position is much better for me. There's less stretch to the bars, and then the cast riser clamps from the top yoke plus the riser bars. They don't have a demonstrator, so I couldn't ride one, but it gets a good write up in a recent MCN test. PROBLEM: they can't get a blue one before June! Aargh! I'm going to look around for one. Has anyone seen one in a dealer in the Cheltenham/Gloucester/Swindon/Bristol/Oxford area? PS what accessories do people recommend? I'm keen on a touring screen, heated grips, hand fairing inserts and a Scottoiler. Thanks, Jon.
  20. Hi everyone, Just registered... I'm interested in buying a new Fazer S2. Just wanted to get some info and opinions from owners of Fazers. I ride a Suzuki 2005 SV650S with fairing lowers and double bubble screen at the moment. I like the torque it produces and the light weight. It handles well and is narrow. The problem is the riding position with clip-ons is killing my back. Right between the shoulder blades (I have a herniated disc there anyway). Suzukis aren't known for build quality either, though it's garaged and well maintained, so it's mint. I want a bike with some wind protection and a relaxed riding position. The only one that looks right for me is the Fazer at the moment. I'd want to fit the touring screen. I realise I'll have to rev it more to get the power, and that's fine. I'm interested in getting heated grips and the little extra fairing bits fitted for hand protection, plus a Scottoiler. Any advice appreciated. Thanks, Jon
