  1. It does indeed. cheers mate. Just wanted someone to verify my theory! Problem is i binned the old filter, and i dont have the spare cash to get the bike Dyno tuned! Guess ill have to go easy on the old girl for a little while until i can get her on the rollers! Have seen Custom DynoJet kits from the US, where you give them your engine specs, modifications, altitude etc and they work out your optimum jet sizes for you, everything from pilots through to mains. May be worth a punt for £70?
  2. OK so my bike ( Yamaha Thundercat) been sat up for 3/4 weeks, yesterday i serviced her, and whacked in a Pipercross air filter and iridium plugs ( for longevity, not expecting a gain from the plugs!), Bike has a full system already on with race can. Went out today and bike was noticeably a touch quicker through gears 1-4 however when she hit 120mph, it was as if someone activated cruise control. it just would not go faster. In 5th it stopped revving at 11k rpm, which funnily enough is 120mph. nothing extra in 6th either. That was first thing this morning, temp prob around 5-7 Deg C. This afternoon, she went past 120 but slowed at 130 and stopped at 140. Temperature prob circa 12-14 Deg C. Normally pulls all way to 145/150 then slows getting to 160 ( clock speeds, not actual speeds, i have diff sprockets etc but they are the figures i can describe best with!) Been popping on overrun/throttling off way more than she used to too. Im thinking that the combination of can and filter is causing the bike to run lean which is affecting my performance at full load ( presuming that the engine is working harder at 140mph than it is at 70mph despite revs) and that because it was colder this morning, the air was denser, hence strangling it that bit more than it did this afternoon? So im thinking i need to re-Jet? anyone think of anything else that could be doing this?
  3. 3BN y3, same markings i had on my 89 DT125 and pics looks like DT for sure.
  4. Sorry for delay in replying.... was busy hunting down Tcats! got this 2003 model in the end: Well chuffed with her!
  5. Cheers for the tips Ill be careful for sure. Dont want to be getting points on a test drive eh! Sundays are points days!
  6. Yeah the 2nd gear issue is one that pops up a lot, although from what i can tell, Its not a mileage thing, just a "use" thing. some suffer from it, some dont. depends how hard on the box the riders have been i suppose! But i wont be buying it without giving it full beans in 2nd, just to be sure
  7. After a few months on my SV650, im wishing for more top end grunt for overtakes and the like, and something that looks/feels a bit sportier.... So the SV is off on saturday, and on monday im hoping to be picking up this : And whoever at Yam decided to name it THUNDERCAT was a legend! Literally the coolest name for a bike EVER!!!!
  8. Well i got one and how anyone can say this thing is ugly is a mystery to me, I LOVE IT!!!
  9. Cheap, But my mind is now firmly made up. SV650 for me Just trying to shift a bloody car so as i can actually buy one! DT has sold on ebay though, £900, so thats a good start ( providing they pay for it!)
  10. Dont you worry i currently have 17 SV's in my watch list and checking for new ones every night dommie looks cool as, proper 90s colour scheme!
  11. Cheers for the info mate appreciate that Looks like a very nice bike you got there mate, heres hoping i can get one that nice in budget!
  12. Ill probably end up buying a curvy, but if i honest id rather a pointy! ah well, either one is pretty And Mervin, That Dommi is 4,500miles!! looks very, very nice, but i just wouldnt pay that for a Dommi, especially to then have to register it etc on top. I could buy one almost as nice with 25k miles for far less and not have the hassle of registering it etc. for someone who is bothered by mileage that uch, its a great bike, but im just not!
  13. well it would seem the insurance company have decided for me! TDM will more than double my premiums, and the bmw isnt far off. the only 2bikes that are semi reasonable to insure are an sv650 or dominator. going to have to be an SV not going to rush into buying one though, there are plenty around to choose from so can affod to take my time and get the best one i can find in my budget
  14. I dont Need an enduro bike, i just like them. But Im also a supermoto fan, and do genuinely like the Duke. Im struggling with the KLE, i cant find any good reviews online, and thats not very reassuring considering im gonna pay more for one. MPG on the kawasaki ( 37mpg) isnt really any different to the TDM (38mpg) or SV ( 40mpg), they are all twins, and the TDM and Sv are 125mph+ whereas the KLE is 105mph. As for the BMW's, the F650 CS is belt drive, so low maintenance, and have heard nothing but good things about them tbh. Think im going to hold out until i have passed my test and go and ride a few of each until i find what suits me. Plus it gives me a bit more time to top up the money, reckon i have £1650 spare at the mo, so could poss stretch that to 1900 ish.
  15. I do like the TDM a lot, and in all honesty it is probably going to come down to either an SV 650, BMW F650 CS or the TDM 850. Am waiting on my insurance company coming back to me with some prices, will see what they say!
  16. Yep no CC limit for me, doing DAS and am 25 so can ride whatever i choose. the only thing stopping me from going out and buying something mental is me, i know im probably not ready for it! so i wrote down what exactly i am after in my first big bike: Reliable Good handling / slightly forgiving comfortable on longer rides and happy to cruise on Motorway at sensible speeds good servicing/parts costs cheap as possible insurance looks good From that list i have now come to a list of 6 possible candidates: TDM 850 BMW F650 CS Aprilia Pegaso Suzuki SV650 Honda Dominator KTM Duke 620 Ok so the KTM and the SV are veering away from the adventure/enduro type bikes, and the KTM is probably going to be ruled out on insurance costs, but the SV650 is i feel a very strong contender. It has a reputation for being a fantastic first "big" bike, is relatively light, handles well, and has a bit more power than the rest, only downside is i dont think it will be as comfy as the others, but i can have another seat made up so not going to discount it on that basis. All of the above can be found well within my £1500 budget, and if i look into the realms of Stolen recovered/Cat C i can get a far newer bike for that money, although obviously i know the bike will need to be checked twice as thoroughly!
  17. I really like the look of that! seems like a lot of bike for the money, sure i could push bit further if ness!!
  18. You guys are pretty spot on tbh, i dont really have any idea what to get next! i really really like the look of a BMW F650 CS, but at my budget I'lll struggle to get a good one! i defo need to get riding them and see what feels good, but im wanting to buy before i do my DAS to give a few weeks to get everything right and ready to rock. im also a big believer of whatever i get ill learn to ride, anything is going to be miles apart from my DT! the one thing that is not negotiable is reliability, as i will be taking the bike across europe thos time next year in aid of help fir heroes, so need something that will cover 500miles a day without a drama!
  19. Ok so im moving onwards and upwards from the Mighty DT125R! Next up will be a 650 Adventure/Enduro type bike, but my budget isn't fantastic, im looking somewhere around £1200, i could probably stretch to £1500 if it was really worth it. Bikes currently in my list: Yamaha XT660Z Tenere Honda NX650 Dominator BMW F650 Suzuki XF650 Freewind Anyone have any experience of any of these bikes? Important things for me to consider are: 1. Reliability/ease of repair 2. Insurance Group 3. Cost of parts 4. Looks ( well no one wants to be ugly! haha) The Suzuki is by far the prettiest bike, Then the BMW, Honda, and the Yamaha is the kid only a mother could love! All are allegedly on a par reliability and power wise, although the bmw is 20kgs heavier and has the extra grunt to match. Really dont know where to start! Any input welcome
  20. This thread is awesome!!! I dont understand why people would even want a DT to do 100mph+! and for those that genuinely get a 125 to that level the cost and maintenance must be unreal!! I bought mine as a bike to learn to ride on, and as a round town commuter with added grin factor its great, but now im ready to do my DAS and moving on to bigger and better things. Mine is to be sold in the next month as im buying a 650 single, not decided between a Yam tenere, Honda Dominator or BMW F650 ( but thats another thread!)
  21. Had a bit of luck with selling a motor i was about to weigh in, so treated myself to the correct shock, was pricey, but will be worth it!
  22. Ok so the old girl failed the mot today on a couple bits, including the rear shock having sod all damping (thought it was bit soft!) and the bearing at the bottom having excessive play. Been looking for a replacement, but cant get a definative answer on whether the later DT125RE shock fits? loads on ebay for pennies, and they look identical, but not sure if its gonna fit and work right. Anyone know of any other bikes that share the DT125R's rear shock, or that will bolt straight on? not interested in changing the swingarm etc unless i absolutely have to!
  23. Well in the end, i just went with the £345 ( although as the quote was 3 weeks ago it had gone up to £359 but i aint complaining). To be totally honest, i couldnt be bothered spending another day ringing around, and seeing as im doing my direct access in a couple months anyway ill have to shop around then, so couldnt be bothered going through it all twice! That and the fact that sometimes its better the devil you know, and the company underwriting the policy is Aviva, so if anything were to happen, i know things will be dealt with properly with as little messing about as poss.
  24. Looking Awesome there mate! MOT on mine tomorrow, so once its all road legal i can start with the tarting up as i go. Already got a few cool ideas, should look good when im finished( i hope!) As for neutral light mate, mine is lit with engine off. My indicators i couldnt tell ya as the bulb isnt in the clocks ( no indicators fitted) !
  25. I understand and would agree with your comment mate, however i do not know exactly what state of tune the bike is in, so im just running with what feels right atm until i strip and rebuild her. At present the only mods i know of are a full Big one exhaust system, and "snorkel" removed from airbox. Until i take the reed block out, check jet sizes etc i dont really know what should be what for the best! When i got the bike it was running a Bosch Super 4 car spark plug, and ran nicely with that! with the standard plug she runs alright, but with the later DT125RE plug she runs a LOT better. Revs far more crisply. I Will have an BR9ES in my pocket at all times as a spare though, so will have to see how long this one lasts and what if any ill effects it has. i registered on the DT125 forum as i spotted a local bike that was cheap enough to harvest for parts for mine, but they still havent approved me yet so cant get any more info! Better its used as parts than not at all i suppose!
