  1. That's ok, rollsroyce, we won't take your word for it. From the organizers. We have received info from the ride Marshals regarding the agreed route. Please see below: The Mothers day ride to Wootton Bassett will start on the runway of Hullavington Airfield (A429) undertaking the following route: A429 (NW to Burton Hill), B4042 (Priory Roundabout to Callows Cross), Callow Hill to White Hill Lane then A3102 through to Wootton Bassett. The ride will then go to Coped Hall (A3102) roundabout for dispersal. There will be dispersal routes clearly signed for those travelling to the North, South, East and West. To minimise local disruption and tail backs on to the M4, riders will be requested to stagger their arrival times. An interactive web site has been setup that will enable riders to not only input their ETA but also choose an off- peak time for their arrival. This will go online soon. We aim to limit our maximal arrival rate to 2000 per hour starting at 8.00am which should prevent tailbacks and stationary vehicles on the M4. We will provide alternative routes, if you require them, for those arriving from the east (via J15) and those coming from the West (J17) to decrease the ‘load’ on J17. The ride will run continuously from 11.00am until all registered riders have passed through Wootton Bassett. A slow release rate from Hullavington Airbase should mean that riders will clear the dispersal point without grid locking Wootton Bassett. All registered riders will soon receive, by email, a rider’s information pack containing all the relevant information.
  2. Just a thought.............it hasn't got 33bhp restriction has it?
  3. Registration site for this event is here. Please register if you want to attend.
  4. It's not an RAF do, the CO of Lyneham has agreed that the run can finish there. OK, you could get in on your RAF ID, but I suspect it would be quicker on the day if you sign in on the Facebook site, (the signup page for security should be up tomorrow) and you'll need to start at the services to get your "pass." Dunno about needing your CO's OK, I used to visit all sorts of bases, especially at mealtimes!!
  5. From the Facebook page. Sunday 14th March 2010 The ride will be starting at Leigh Delamere Service Station J17 (eastbound) of the M4. Please start arriving from 10:30am. Each rider will pay £5 and receive an Afghan Heroes wristband, which will be their entry pass to RAF Lyneham. The lead riders will be leaving at 12 noon promptly. The route will be along the M4 to J16 before heading along the A-Roads towards Wootton Bassett. We will be riding through at a slow speed before continuing along to RAF Lyneham. We are honored that they are opening their gates for us and refreshments will be available. All those attending RAF Lyneham will require to pre register giving Name, Address, DOB and Bike Registration. This is to enable security clearance to be carried out by the RAF. REGISTRATION CLOSES MONDAY 15TH FEBRUARY 2010. Anyone who does not register WILL NOT be allowed onto RAF Lyneham. Registration will be through a secure site, this will be posted out on Monday. We will be riding to RAF Lyneham where there will be a presentation to hand over the funds raised for the Afghan Heroes Charity, set up last September by a group of mothers who lost their sons in Afghanistan. IF YOU KNOW OF ANY BIKERS WHO WISH TO ATTEND THE RIDE WHO HAVEN’T REGISTERED ON FACEBOOK CAN YOU ENSURE THAT THEY REGISTER ON THE SECURE SITE. Look forward to seeing you there! Lizzie Danny and Julia

  8. Hi Debbi, I've got a spare Dragstar 1100 rider's seat, if that's any use to you. As for the pillion seat, we've been looking for a better one, they're very expensive. There's this from Yamaha... Or there's this from Mustang. My wife has padded ours with memory foam, she say's it's much better, but could still do with some extra width. Btw, where are you?
  9. Hobby? Hobby? Biking isn't a hobby, it's a way of life! Work is my hobby, a well paid one that keeps my bikes on the road.
  10. A 2005 bike that's only done 4000 miles, your battery may be getting a little tired. Have a good blat on it, check the voltage across the battery terminals when you put it away. Recheck the voltage before you next start it. A significant drop means new battery time. Remember, bikes like to be ridden.
  11. Thanks for posting this, Graham, I owe you a drink if we meet, sometime.
  12. It was quite gratifying after all the training, the night in Kuwait when the NIAD alarm went off (False alarm they said.......yeah, ok.) and all the NBC (as it was then) drills become automatic. Except for the RCT Warrant, who panicked and shot himself up with his combi pen. Sounds like they got that in the right order......... Keep going, have fun.
  13. You been watching too much Aliens......... They wouldn't let us have sharp sticks......we could've hurt ourselves.
  14. Good luck, fella! Which trade are you going for? The Snowdrops are the biggest pi55heads in the RAF. If there's alcohol around, they'll find it.
  15. You could also ask on Wiltshire Bikers Forum.
  16. Don't Chippenham Motor Cycles (01249 464650) do a fit while you wait? Wouldn't surprise me if they would come to you, as they run a breakdown/recovery service. I take mine to Kennet Car & Commercial just outside Marlbro' (01672 861612) but you have to book in advance.
  17. The combo banjo bolt/nipple is to replace the existing banjo bolt, which connects the brake hose to the caliper. It would be worth checking if your drilling has compromised the caliper, 'cuz if it's still ok, this is the quickest fix. If you drill out the broken bleed nipple, you will have to be very carefull not to damage the taper seating at the bottom of the hole, as this is where the bleed nipple tightens to stop fluid leaking.
  18. Right, first..... Did you manage to undo the nipple at all, ie, will it now leak, or is it still tight? If it is still tight, leave it be, replace the banjo bolt with a combination banjo bolt/bleed nipple. https://beedspeed.com/product_info.php/cPat...roducts_id/4683 (Try to get a stainless one.) Good luck.

    xjr oil filter

Hiyer! A1....Follow the clutch hose down to where it goes into the clutch release cylinder. Below this is a cover with a bolt head in the middle. The oil filter is behind this. You may have to loosen the clutch release cylinder first, but do not undo the hose connection. When you refit the filter cover, you have to push it all the way in, then tighten the bolt. DO NOT try to pull the cover in with the bolt, you'll end up with a hell of an oil leak. A2....Not a clue, sorry. A3....I run mine on BT020s, usually two up with luggage. I get 5-6000 miles on the back, about 9-10000 on the front. Hope this helps.
  20. My first car, at 17, cost me £70. TPTF insurance also cost me £70. At the time I earned about £35 a week. Now this isn't much use to you now, but it shows that running a car at 17 has always been (relatively) expensive. At 16, I got a BSA C15 (250cc for those less than half a century old) for £60 and insured it TP only for £12. (Those were the days when you could ride a 250 at 16.)

If you can get hold of iomrob (this forum) he will tell you about a trip round Europe on his FJR........on the back of a breakdown truck.
  24. Not your FJR then, Rob? XJR for me, too. I wanted on for too long not to still love it.
