    carbs overflowing

Thanks for the tip, i have rebuilt the carbs took me 6 hours reset float hight, air screw, etc ran the bike and it sounded 100% better but was still running on 3 cylinders removed the plug and there was no gap i dropped the plug a few days ago and forgot to check it, re gapped plug and ran on all 4 cylinders sounded even better, balanced carbs with vacum gauges wish i had a better set as these ones are so hard to get a true reading, and no over flow of petrol from carbs, the bike is still a bit hard to start hot or cold would adjusting the air screw help as i set it to 2 half turns as the book says, if i use a little easy start it fires up every time and runs fine,i can not take it for a run as it is not fully rebuilt i think this what it needs, any think else i can check and the back fire has stopped hanks dave

    carbs overflowing

Hi chris, thanks for reply i have stripped carbs down and all 4 idle jets are blocked, main jets look a bit narrow i checked float hight with digital vernier gauge and look spot on 20mm hight as per book, there was some more jets under the diathram dont know what they do, float needles look good so ithink i will rebuld it and see what happens, what do you clean the diathrams with spelling looks wrong. thanks Dave
  3. Can any give advise on my carbs overflowing fuel out of overflow pipes, the bike is a fz600 1987 i am useing a small make shift tank with no breather pipe fitted to it i have balanced the carbs but when i turn fuel on it pours out of overflow pipe, if i start the bike it stops and runs lumpy and back fires on over run and starts to run on 3 cylinders,i removed carbs checked for any crap in float bowls but was clean, i have a diffrent set of carbs and tried them the engine run realy good but this set of carbs started to over flow as well even with engine running then the engine run on 3cylinders but a different one this time, i replaced the original carbs it run lumpy but was running on 4 cylinder, new coils, leads, caps, battery, have all been replaced.should i strip my orginal set of carbs,or use the other set, i dont know what i should be looking for to cause them to overflow the other set of carbs i think are of a radian model i was told they have smaller jets and no mixture adjustment factory set would it harm the engine to use them as he engine is the same, could the spark plug be getting to much or not enough fuel if it is coming out of overflow. any help would be welcomed.

    stator colour

Thanks for your replys, ihave replaced the stator and rotor from my other engine i had to get a puller from yam bits for a tenner work well, this stator was also black when removed i checked all resistance on rotor and stator and looked about normal,i replaced wires and cables were needed irun the bike and got my wife to check the 3 wires from stator no current was showing on volt meter.the next day i connected some spade connectors to the stator wires and run the bike this time i got over 60 volts on 3 wires i think i could of had fluke meter set up wrong or the wife was not connecting with the connectors in the block properly, i run the bike again and put 2 fluke testers on battery and only got about 12.5volts at any rpm the bike has a new tour max reg/rec on it so i checked the diodes on old reg/rec and it was spot on so i replaced the new one with the old one and watched as the volts climed to 13.5/14 volts, looks like i paid £65.00 for a duff reg/rec so i all looks good now, idid price up a new stator and rotor from yamaha and it was over £1,000 the bikes not worth that, the electrex fault finder was a great help. stator colour

Ineed some advise on the condition of my stator, i run the bike yesterday and checked the output from the stator no volts on volt meter, i checked new battery and was showing just over 12 volts when running put all lights on and dropped it 1 volt, the reg/rec is new but does not even get warm with all lights etc on,all connections have been cleaned up.I removed the stator from the bike and it was a burnt treacle colour/cofee colour on the copper wires of the stator, what colour should it be and does it sound like its had it,i do have a spare one from a old engine is it just the part with the wires and brushes and coil that has to be changed, the bike is fz600 thanks Dave.
  6. Ihave now nearley sorted most of my electrical problems on my fz600,once you start cutting muti elctrical connectors and replacing them with bullet or spade connectors it looks very untidy,i found a small outfit that sells 1 way,2 way 3 way, 4 way, connectors very similar to yamaha connectors they take orders over the phone and you can buy the amount you need they also sell many other types of connectors,if any ones intrested i can give you there number or web address they were nice people and repair motorcycle electrics so they understand what your after.

    electrics dead

Ithink i found the problem, i had 10 min before i was going out yesterday an tried a new volt meter across fuses,as i pushed the probes into the fuses i could hear a crackling sound on the connections, the fuse carrier has been replaced at some time and replaced with mini spade conector fuses , replaced all fuses cleaned up fuse holder with wd40, i now all lights working power to coils, reg/rec is getting warm ,power to side stand,i just got to get neutral light to come on as there is no power going to switch i think its not in neutral as i have no chain or gear lever on it at moment, learned to take time when checking electrics.

    electrics dead

Al, changed coils because i had a low reading on resistence, and the engine had been replaced the bike was very difficult to start and did not run to good, the reg/rec was changed because the battery was not charging but had a good current from genarator, the ignition switch was changed because a lead had pulled out at moment no lights on any of the equpment im going to check side stand and cluch switch, no gear lever on a moment so could be a false neutral, any think else i can check with meters. thanks Dave.

    sorn advise

Thanks for all your replys, things are not looking good i just dug out log book and its the old style v5 and to make matters worse i did not change my address when i moved to my new address , i checked status on dvlc and it said unlicenced from 200i status, how will they know when i moved if i send old log book in for a new one, looks like i will have to break the bike and tell them nothing as the bike will cost more than the fine i will get, 2 years down the drain . the wife said would be nice to see you ride it after all the money and time spent on it,well off pissed now any help would be of great help. thanks Dave

Any aftermarket or pattern ones are fine as long as there red or black and off the correct size and openended ,could try my local dealer as they might have universal fitting ones. Dave
