  8. Have a look at this page it shows how to make a diy bike lift. http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/bikelift.htm. you may find it help's if your working on the rear end a lot.
  9. Looking at the photosit appears one of the shocks is bent - if so wouldnt that pull the swing arm out of alignment over time?
  10. The year of manufacture dosnt have to tie up with year of registration ie my xvs400 as a 'grey' import was made in 1996 but only registered in this country in 2000, It's the date of registration in this country that your license shows not the date made.
  11. What bike is it for? Have you had a look at the xvs 400/ 650 custom pillion pad? Its that shape hasnt got the suction cups though if thats what you are after.
  12. Howdy, I woke up one morning to find my front brake caliper hanging lose on the wheel - both bolts had vanished on my xvs 400. The brake was locked on. Ive completely stripped the caliper down and cleaned it and purchased replacement pistons and rubber seals and pads. How do I fit the rubber seals into the small groves in the caliper body where the piston sits? I know I can use a c clamp to gently seat the piston but dont know about the rubbers. Thanks
  13. if you have patience - a toothbrush and toothpaste is very good for polishing chrome - gets all those rust bits outs.
  14. £600 was that for a new one (minus hamster wheel of course) direct from them? Id be interested in that to fit a 250 lump into for a project.
  15. As a 400cc owner with shortmanitis Ive found power rangers only ever say that once to me. They tend to mutter uhhhmacnoss! instead :-)
  16. Hi, does anyone know if there is a UK based supplier of Blue collar bobber kits for the XVS. I'm a bit reluctant to order from the states as you can never quite figure out how much stuff is going to cost, Ie how much duty is goin to be added and then how much the shipping company will add in admin charges for paying it for you.
  17. Luckily the mufflers do come off and I managed to get another set for just over the cost of p & p . It's the actuall marking up and cutting thats a problem because of the curves.
  18. Has any one slashcut the stock xvs 650 custom pipes? Id like to make 2 cuts one to chop the cone off and a second horizontal cut for the slash. Id like some advive on what angle to make the horizonatal cut and what length. cheers
  19. HG SLIP ON SILENCER (SINGLE) on sale £16.99 http://www.hein-gericke.co.uk/shop/product_info.php/cPath/23_131/products_id/7284

  21. Anybody happen to know where I can locate paint code for the yamaham xvs pearlesnect orange 650 custom and any paint dealer I may get it from? thanks.
  22. It's the lower one. I was hoping to be able to salvage the swing arm and the shock for a spare. It may still be possible when I swap the swing arm over as that will give more room to get at the rusted bolt. Where did your guy angle grind to free it?
  23. sadly the nut itself will unbolt but the bolt wont move as it appears either the weight of the shock is holding it in place or it has rusted to the two metal collars it runs through which have rusted to the swing arm brackets. There isnt room to swing a hammer to knock the bolt through.
  24. Hi, I picked up a reasonable cheap 2000 xvs 650 for a bobber conversion project However there is some corrosion damage on on the rear swing arm and monoshock. I have a replacement swing arm and monoshock but the problem I am having is the rear monoshock bolt and sleeves seem to be rusted solid. Heat and freeing products havent worked and using a longer lever on the bolt dosnt either as it merley lifts the bike up and moves it. Does any one have any other ideas to try as there isnt a lot of room to dry cutting / drilling. Thanks
  25. It was the former but happily it appears to be sorted now. As you have all been so kind to help me out you You all deserve to have a laugh a laugh at my expense too. It was the back brake cable siezed in the on position locking the rear wheel solid! DOH - Todays winner for the Homer Simpson award for contribution to IQ is Me. Thanks for all your help Guys.
