  1. Can I simply fit a classic read mudguard instead of my customs plastic one or is there more work involved?
  2. Anybody know where I can get a kit and anything about fitting one. I have heard correcly setting it up is a skilled task. cheers

do all vstars come with an ais system as standard? My xvs 400 dosnt have one and I wasnt just wondering if a previous owner had removed it or it was never fitted. cheers
  5. It's ALIVVE!!!! - sort of nearly mayb. at least go the engine to fire for a while there may be other problems as it was spluttering and back fireing and dying when you opneed the throttle but at least theres progress.
  6. thats on the list of todays jobs , assumming her indoors dosnt find me something productive to do like go shopping.
  7. Thanks for the offer , but Im down south from you in pie eater country. Just wondering if i can someone with one would bunging it in a ultrasonuc cleaner work. to save me having to take it to bits. cheers
  8. it's had new plugs , found a video on you tube on xvs carbs , well try cleaning them this week end. more than likely I will have to buy another set of carbs!
  9. sounds like a plan anybody got a link to how to do that for numpties ?
  10. Ok it stopped running, then I was ill so it's been standing for a while and it wont start. Hooked it up to the car battery today just in case the battery was duffy even though it said it was charged. There is a spark as I tested the plugs against the engine casing. There is fuel going as far as the carbs as the pump appears to be working at least it was pumping fuel into a bucket when I disconnected the house into a bucket. It simply wont catch though even with choke. The carb needles dont seem to be sliding when we tried a little fuel into the top of them. As far as I can see fuel either isnt going past the carbs or I havent a clue. Any one got any ideas if it is the carbs any idea what it is likely to be *? cheers *side stand switch even though I have pushed the switch in
  11. Thanks, Ill give all those things a try when I get some dry weather and rid of man flu.
  12. Not really a lot more to say. you turn the key neutral light comes on & the amber oil can light whilst it goes 'vrrrr' for a while, then goes out. I give it a little choke and then press start. starter motor tries to start but it seems like the engine never fires. ( I did fully charge the battery). Not mechanically minded. Guess Ill just have to shoot the wee thing.
  13. yup your right more than one problem tis dead Jim dead Jim
  14. thanks for the info we shall find out if there is more problem tommorrow. I do know the neutral light is on and the starter motors trying hard just not firing.
  15. After years of never failing to start, my 400 has stopped working, I may have forgotten to feed the hamster again but I suspect this time it's the side stand switch. The little 'T' shaped part isn't making contact with the side stand. Can any one tell me if it is supposed to be pushed in when the stand is up or completely out. I am guessing they are the same on both the 400/650 model as it uses the same frame etc. Thanks
