  1. Hi Simon If you do a google search for 'Heat Shrink Tubing' you might find that this is what you are looking for, It will insulate the leads ok, but I don't know how long they will last or how flexible they will be once finished, When I use this tubing I use a Hot air paint stripper type gun on a low setting to shrink tubing. Hope this helps
  2. My DT 175 gives me as many smiles per mile than the FJR and it quicker through our gridlocked town.
  3. Hi Are you trying to fit the ignition switch to the meter bracket with or without the ignition damper rubber? Aj
  4. This is the way I have used, but it is easier with my bike as there are 4 long studs that slide through the cylinder barrel, I then use a small wedge of wood to hold the barrel up off the base of the engine to allow me to use both hands to slide the conrod and gudgeon pin.
  5. Hi No doubt others may have differing opinions. I had a 97 900 Divi, and I wish I still had it, okay the bike was a bit weighty and it was a bit under braked ( look for steel braided brake pipe kit) but it was easy to maintain, quick enough to get me into trouble, comfortable and easy to ride, once mates on sports bikes swapped with me I couldn’t get them to swap back, Mine was in unmarked condition with around 40 thousand miles on it and it had never missed a beat, I would expect to see a bike like that for sale in a private sale at about £1100 to £1400 I suppose, I would be looking at well looked after bikes of up to 50 thousand miles, However I would look at higher mileage bikes in exceptional condition, But I have no idea what the Aussie bike market is like money wise, Aj
  6. Hi I would not worry about using 10w40 oil over 10w30 oil providing it is the correct oil for the task i.e.: motorcycle engine oil. In fact the 10w40 oil will function over a wider temperature spread, so it should retain its protection/lubrication/cleaning, properties for longer If you do an internet search for kinematic oil comparisons, you will find some listings for various comparison tables. they will explain it far better than I can,
  7. Hi Welshwan I am not Welsh but I have spent many a time riding up and down the A 496 stunning roads and views, lovely area,
  8. Hi Adil I don't know if this cap comes with the cork gasket, but I suppose it would be easy enough to cut a useable gasket out from a sheet of cork that can be brought from any motor factor shop.
  9. Hi Adil I think Yambit sell them, http://yambits.co.uk/ct1c-oil-tank-cap-p-16948.html
  10. Hi The engine on my little bike is similar and to get at the reeds all I do is remove the manifold bolts slacken off the front, rear air cleaner and intake hose clips, turn off the petrol tap and disconnect the fuel and oil pipes, I don’t even have to undo the throttle cable as I can ease the carburettor out of the air cleaner hose and manifold hose letting it hang out of the way on the cable, all the breather pipes stay attached to the carb and only need feeding back on the re-fit ,I believe your bike has about the same access so I see no reason why you cannot do the same,
  11. Hi at the end of some of the pdf's for some of the bikes are basic setting data sheets, there are some high altitude settings shown also they might be of some help,
  12. I have gone up 1 tooth on the front on my DT twin shock , my bike has only 5 gears, I did it to try to achieve a top gear cruise speed of 55 mph at slightly lower revs, Which it does, the difference is not that great though, the only draw back is that to get the most out of 5th gear I now have to hold onto 4th gear for a few revs longer, (What you gain on the swings you loose on the roundabouts) Iinternet search for motorcycle gear ratio calculator, ()
  13. Hi Tony other than E-bay http://yambits.co.uk/ http://www.wemoto.com/ and general internet searches start a project thread members are keen to see pictures and add their inputs and ideas, some of the ideas even make sense too
  14. Hi Alan I had a similar prob with my XJ 900 divi all that was needed was the carbs balancing properly.
  15. Please don't get me wrong, I am not laughing at anyone as such, I am thankful for any input and always appreciate any advice,
  16. Lol I cannot show a picture of the piston that is in my bike ( as it is in my bike) but I know that the piston currently running has elongated ports and is recessed at the sides as shown in the picture, As the current piston has done well over 3000 miles and the bike will show an indicated 70 mph I am quite confident that it would of gone bang by now if it was drastically wrong, but I do appreciate any concerns shown, I do also have the previous piston and that is also has the same characteristics The only reason this piston was changed was because a crank brg broke up and part of the roller cage had slid up the side of the piston wall, I just wanted to show that I figure that Flyday has probably got a piston for a 5 port early DT/CT bike
  17. Hi I have been watching this post, having looked at the latest pictures of your piston all I can say is the 2 ports in your piston look smaller than the ports on the piston in my bike and I thought they shared the same pistons, the ports in my piston are bigger and are more of a square shape
  18. Hi That’s good to hear, when the Yam shop stamp the number keep any receipts, so that when you sell the bike on you can explain the re-stamped numbers, I don’t suppose it will help keep the value of the bike from falling but it will help to satisfy the legality of the bike
  19. Hi Minnesotan First bike R1, 900 miles by google maps still in one piece, sounds like frying pan vs fire to me
  20. Hi Adam Have you tried phoning your local vehicle licensing agency, they may have a recognised procedure for re instating the original vin number,
  21. Hi Sorry for your bike problems, If you have proven that the, Spark plug ,Coils, Ht leads and most aspects of the ignition are all functioning by swapping them with known serviceable components, and you have ruled out silly things like blockages in the number 3 cylinder air cleaner to carburettor inlet tract then I suppose you are left with looking at whether the cylinder is obtaining full compression, have you tried a compression test? hope you can pinpoint the failure soon, Re-post your question in the work shop area, it is a better place to start the thread. Aj
  22. You would only be able to use copper as a mock up, the temperature would be too great for copper, but hopfully you would only have to mock up the first 2 pipe bends as the rest of the pipe would most likely be fairly straight,
  23. Hi Might be a dim idea but, Would it be possible to make the pipe in copper tube as a mock up then get a company to make a stainless copy
  24. Hi Type 'motorcycle chain adjustment' into youtube and take your pick,
  25. Hi Sean I don't know how valuable it could be, but I think it is a YR (1,2 or 3) ( http://dayerses.com/yamaha-yr-1.html) To me it is sacrilegious to break a bike down but at the worst it has some good original parts so it could still supply some much needed bits and pieces for another bike resto and of course put some money in to your own pocket,
