  1. UPDATE TIME AGAIN!! Finally got time over weekend (damn kids) to have a good look at the FZR. Drained fuel system, cleaned carbs, filters, jets, replaced fuel lines, checked flow to carbs, checked plugs, adjusted idle screw etc. Had also disconnected all electrics in hope that things would reset (if you know what i mean). End result is that bike starts easily, idles smoothly, revs fine through the range - until you go for a run. So have kinda decided that fault must be electrical - gonna invest in a new voltage reg (last one was used from fleabay). Haven't priced a genuine one yet, but plenty of non-genuine on t'internet for £60 region. Will keep you updated.
  2. Thanks Jim, your knowledge is greatly appreciated. Could this cause the mechanical problems? How can i confirm that the CDI is the problem? Sorry for the questions & being a bit of a dumbass!!
  3. My FZR does something similar, i posted about it a long time ago. I was told by a dealer that its a common feature of the FZR as the timing is set slightly in advance to give more power higher up the range. As a result, riders always find it a bit lumpy under 3000 rpm. Also tends to lead to a worn clutch as people slip the clutch to get revs up. You've just got to take it into account and ride accordingly (drop a gear when riding thru town etc) Hope this helps!!
  4. Check out general area, link as below. All opinions welcome! http://www.yamahaclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=15519
  5. Lucky man, though very surprised to hear of a racer going out without proper gear on. Thanks for the update - keep them coming!!

    M.O.T

Hi Kenny. I've never displayed the MOT disc on the bike, tho my tax disc is also attached inside the fairing and not strictly visible! I've seen people with a double disc holder attached to fork leg or elsewhere, but normally looks shit. In my opinion, display tax disc, can always present MOT certificate if asked for it. Vic P.S. - Nice to hear from fellow Norn Iron users
  7. Have swopped the plugs for a new set. I'm just running through options that people suggest, that why i was going to check coils. Bike now harder to start than previously, doesnt make much effort to fire. think i'll strip fuel system out & then clean jets again, try adjusting fuel mixture too. then time to check spark on each cylinder. someone else suggested a CDI problem, but again i'm unsure how i could identify that to be the problem
  8. Seriously chum, you've gotta get a hobby, get a girlfriend or just stop drinking Red Bull!!!!
  9. I've had an ongoing problem for a while, see my other posts for full details. Filled the tank one morning on way to work, had problems since. Feels like running off a cylinder, way down on power, wont idle. Cleaned out fuel system, from tank thru to carbs, cleaned jets out too. Also changed the plugs. But didnt help. Someone suggested checking the coils but i'm not sure how. Any help greatly received cos i'm stuck!
  10. Hi folks. Can anyone help me please - been told to check the ignition coils are working alright on my FZR600. But to be honest I'm not sure how to do this (mechanical side is more my thing). Can anyone advise please? Thanks Vic
  11. sounds like starter problem to me. my FZR does similar sometimes. i got round it by putting bike in 1st gear, walk few steps with it, drop the clutch. this usually does the trick, then bike starts from button
  12. Yes, Robert has 2 sons both race currently - William & Michael. Both doing well too, lots of race wins so far this year. Hope Michael does ok on the Norton though can't expect too much of a new bike especially seeing bike/rider had little or no test time.
  13. does it idle like a bucket of shite as well? story is spookily familiar to the problem i'm having with my FZR (sat for a while, now wont run right). i've tried everything, cleaning carbs, fuel system etc but no luck. next step for me is to check floats for damage, then adjust mixture levels in vague hope of rectifying problem. Keep us updated if you have any joy!
  14. Excellent, think I'll need to if I want this RD! Reckon there's few other bits i don't need - one lung is plenty, dont need all of my liver (whats left of it), a kidney can go. Doc can remove appendix & other useless bits too; less weight means few extra mph out of the FZR - if i ever get it going again
  15. At last, got the Doctor onto the Island - now just need to let him loose for a proper run!! Doctor @ TT Also looking forward to seeing how the new Norton does on its debut. Welcome back to a British racing icon & good luck Michael Dunlop!!
  16. I first spotted it about 15 years ago in the guy's garage & fell in love with it then. But had kinda forgotten about it until recently, when i found it in a corner of his garage. I've told him I want first refusal if ever decides to sell, but reckon i'll need fair bit to acquire such a mint original example
  17. I've found it - the bike that makes me grin every time i see it. Much as I love newer bikes, i'm drooling over an RD350 LC - Kenny Roberts Replica. Its owned by friend of my dads, but only comes out once a year for MOT. Its the real thing, not a cheap copy, in immaculate condition, very very low miles, one owner from new. But, its not for sale at the min But thats a good thing cos gives me time to scrape every penny i can to hopefully be in a position where i can bring it home someday. Any of you RD experts know how much such a minter would make??

    Dating

Great Dane?? St Bernard?? lol Why not start a new section within the forum for the singles amongst the masses? Singles can post some info & pics - obviously nowt too rude or OGOAB's pacemaker will need a new battery & Foamy will have a stroke! (pardon the pun )
  19. Hi there! Nice to see another user from Norn Iron!!!! Nice bike - i'd love one like that. Mods are really personal taste, so suit yourself - not the masses

  24. It was a local small garage, not one of the big multi-nationals. never had trouble with their fuel before, but it only takes one sh*t fill. still not got new plugs in yet due to illness but hoping that'll help
