  1. I'm gonna start making mine now for next year... <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XC08Lx-zkhI&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XC08Lx-zkhI&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XC08Lx-zkhI&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
  2. Discovered today that the tab in question should be there. The little cutouts you can see are actually the word 'UP' indicating orientation of the gasket. You learn something new every day!!
  3. Yip, his personality draws young & old alike to the racing. Two of my kids love watchin the GP with me now (they're 5 & 3) and both are big Rossi fans!
  4. They prob will, but at least Vale has a personality and isnt just a bore like Stoner, Lorenzo etc. His donkey antics following his crash Indianapolis were hilarious, not too many other top level sportsmen willing to take the mick out of themselves like that!
  5. I can confirm that there isn't anything that would contact gasket on bottom face. But was curious for your opinion so thought i'd ask!
  6. Hey OGOAB, I'm back for your opinions again! (Sorry for being a pain) Engine came out yday for thread repair. One of the reasons i thought about replacing head gasket (as we debated) was i spotted something i considered bit odd. There seems to be a bit of gasket protruding from under head. Have tried to show in pic below. To me, it almost seems like gasket has been put in upside down & that tab on the gasket should correspond to the boss on the head. But thought i'd ask your opinion please.
  7. UPDATE Hey folks. Thought i'd add few more pics. Stripped engine out yday to get thread repaired. Tempted to strip rest of it down now, make a winter project out of it. Powder coat frame/brackets/etc, seat conversion, polish some elements and repaint the lot. But as usual it'll all have to be on super-tight budget!
  8. Last word surely got to go to me cos I started thread - Mods, end this thread, all has been said. P.S. Goff - U rock! Gotta lot of support behind you here. lol
  9. As usual, I greatly appreciate your advice! Think i'll give them a ring & see. Cheers OGOAB! I'm busting to get it back on the road, want a few trips out before the really bad weather sets in.
  10. Exactly right. I love helicoils, fixed many many problems when I was a fitter! lol The firm i have arranged to do it can do it with head still attached to engine, then hoover filings out. But i'm a little sceptical (perhaps just being silly) that they'll get them all so gonna remove head. Conscious that i have little experience in stripping & rebuilding to this extent & bit wary of feckin it up! Plus thinking now would be good time to change head gasket too.
  11. Hey all, seeking the usual expert opinions. As you may have noticed in my other thread, had another prob with latest FZR purchase. Took it out for a run few days ago & hit problems. Turns out the thread holding plug on cylinder 2 stripped leading to the obvious problems! I've sorted local company to sort the head out, just need to strip it out first. Kinda tempted to do it myself but bit concerned about the timing / timing chain setup etc due to my inexperience with this area. Am i better to be sensible (for a change!) & pay someone who knows what they're at to strip/rebuild it, or is it easy enough to do myself?
  12. no no no chum, you got it wrong. You use the bolt cutters to cut their achilles tendons!
  13. Still have a spare one from the last bike. Not certain its a goodun - but cant hurt to find out. Just bit amazed that it totally drained a full charged battery in 36 hours!! I'll search as you suggest, can check electrics while head is being repaired
  14. Hi all, Seem to have a serious voltage drain somewhere on the FZR. Brand new battery went in on Wednesay, was flat by yesterday. Any advice on how to find the prob (apart from sending it to an auto-spark!)?
  15. Well, I've done some investigation this morning and think i've found the fault. Plug on cylinder 2 had come out! no surprise it was going like shite. Threads are fecked. So gonna be head off job for a repair. Think i'll do head gasket while i'm at it
  16. Looks good chum! So help me out, you used nitromors and progressively finer sandpaper to strip old paint off. Then what you use to achieve the polished finish?
  17. AAAAAGGGGGHHHH!! Somebody out there in the grand scheme of things doesnt like me. Got the bike back together yday. Really happy with it, busting to get a run out. So, filled tank up and set off. Got approx 5 miles, and bike decides to stop revving, drop power and sound like a Massey Ferguson. Worst bit is that i was passing 2 cars at the time, another vehicle appearing over the oncoming horizon turned out to be a cop car too! Had plenty of room to get back in safely enough, then stopped to assess things. Hoping its something stupid like a gasket has gone and nowt too serious Then got a phone call from my kids school to collect him early, he's now been diagnosed with swine flu. This sucks
  18. Welcome! Looking forward to seeing pics of that one! Check out the thread under Forum Help section, explains it all. Heres a link just incase Link
  19. Look forward to seein some pics of your hard work! Was it hard to do? Previous owner of my FZR has painted lip orange, i'd like to go for polished but keen to know how hard it is.
  20. Has any one else received a PM inviting them to join another Yam forum? How rude!

    JOKE

OOOHH, Cheryl Cole - I most definately would! Though Holly Willough-boobs wouldnt be too far down the list either! lol
  22. Indeed, you're all heart! Though Health & Safety may have a few issues 1- She's not wearing Hi-Vis clothing 2- The ladder being unsteady due to some unknown cause of shaking!
  23. SSQQUUEAALL PIGGY!!! Oh dear - its a scary thought? I could always take you with me for company/protection if you're game?
  24. UPDATE. Just back from bit more work on the bike. Fork seals done, have removed and painted all the brackets i can (fairing support etc) - look ok, big improvement. Think i got oil leak sorted too, was just a missing bolt on bottom of gearbox casing. Thats the kind of fix i like! Next is more cosmetic work. Got the stupid bits on frame repainted, again big improvement. Gonna t-cut & polish the shite out of the panels before i reassemble the lot again. Long term plans include full repaint (even got my colour scheme sorted) and hopefully the R6 seat conversion that i wanted to do on previous FZR before its departure. Cant wait to get full mines on it now!
