  1. Sadly not, they are all for the MX model 1977 onwards. I have no idea why no-one makes a pattern part, there are loads of people who want this switch, it's the same as the DT250 type 512 and DT400 type 513.
  2. I've just bought a DT175 1G1, the ignition switch has been rogered at some point in the past (the key will come out even in the "on" position. There are no pattern parts available, as anyone with a DT175, 250 or 400 will tell you! Does anyone know of anyone who can repair ignition switches? Or does anyone have one for sale? Thanks, Chris.

    1972 DT2

I took on a 1973 DT250 DT3 last year (the one with the green tank) it's a US import (they all are i think). Anyway, spares seem to be plentiful that side of the pond....I have found some amazing bits. There are a couple of places that sell a lot of dt parts, speed&sport inc, and NW vintage cycle parts to name but a few. do a worldwide search on ebay youll find just about anything you need. Good US website : www.yamahaenduro.com very helpful bunch there and often have bits for sale, and some keen members who remanufacture things. (i got a new seat foam from one member who makes a batch every now and again The only thing i've been struggling to find is a seat pan. All in all i would say go for it. It's going to be a lot easier to finish the 250 than my '76 DT400! Let us know how you get on, i can always point you in the direction of parts etc. Good luck, Chris.
  4. Hi, i'm currently restoring a 73 DT250 and a 76 DT400, so i have a fair bit of experience with these bikes. The yellow DT250 currently on ebay looks ok (I haven't seen it in the flesh) and I would imagine it will go for the thick end of £2000. Prices for the twinshocks, especially the 250 and 400 are strong, and getting more expensive. Dave at Redrose Retrobikes sells 400's (when he has them) for the 3-4000 mark. Both bikes are now very rare....member blackhat here imported one from the states. Ebay US is a good source of parts, it's amazing whats out there if you sit and wait. Having said that, complete bikes (250 and 400) are pretty rare, only a few turn up each year that i can make out. Hope this is of some help. Chris.
  5. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-NOS-...sQ5fAccessories This should help.....start with a new wiring loom... Wiring diagram should be in any of the easily available manuals, haynes etc. Hope this helps. Chris.
  6. ah sorry mis-read...but do a worldwide ebay search, somethings bound to come up. someone is breaking one here in the uk too http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Deckel-Kuehlfluessig...A36%7C294%3A100 is this it?

  10. The same thing happened to me when i had an RD 50 in 1980. was as good as new after the air filter was cleaned.
  11. Hi welcome to the forum....i presume your'e in the US ? Try www.yamahaenduro.com a good us based forum, the guys there are great and very helpful......i have '73 dt250 and have found a lot of bits through them. Ebay has sourced the rest. By the look of it none of the parts you are after are the hard to get ones, it would be helpful if you could post engine/chassis numbers here and on other forums, that way folk will know what you have.Even a photo too. There were at least 2 variants of the 250 trails bike that i know of. Find a parts book too....then you can order and find parts by the number. Good Luck! Chris.
  12. Hi, yes, the decals your'e after were for the UK/Europe market only. Try some of the companies that advertise in CMM, though sunrise are probably the best of the bunch. I'm presuming your bike is the twinshock? The "MX" is the monoshock model, the "C" is the twinshock '75/'76 model year. Chris.
  13. They do pop up now and again so keep an eye on ebay and try the people that advertise in CMM have u joined the VJMC ?
  14. Hi & welcome. I'm restoring a DT400C so i have sympathy with you trying to find parts! If you don't have a parts book, look here (i am presuming it's a UK bike?) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Yamaha-DT250-DT400-P...A1%7C240%3A1318 You should also get this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/YAMAHA-DT250-B-DT400...A1%7C240%3A1318 and this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/YAMAHA-DT250-DT400-D...A1%7C240%3A1318 Be careful when buying parts for your DT from abroad, like CSML as many parts are country specific for these bikes, such as rear light fittings, wiring loom, ignition switch. The part you mention i found in a dealer that advertises in the back on CMM. I think it's the same as FS1e part. Chris.
  15. This info comes from yamaha enduro.com a great website for these old bikes. I'm restoring a 1973 DT250 DT3. Anyhow this is what it says : DT2 1972 DT1F-105101 DT1F-134257 Pearl Yellow Gold Parts are generally OK, mostly from the US. Chris.
  16. Hi, nice looking project you have there. I have a 1973 DT3 model which is somewhat different. You should join yamahaenduro.com http://64.234.201.42/yamahaforum/index.php It's a US based website full of very enthusiastic owners, and a good source of info and spares. Two dealers i use are http://216.168.60.165/speedandsportinc/index.tpl http://www.nwvintagecycleparts.com/ These two have an amazing array of parts, though can be very expensive. Do a worldwide search on ebay for the best results normally 150 plus pages. Good luck with the restoration!
  17. I was a courier for about 4 years in the 80's. I earned very good money for not a lot, really, but you do have to work hard ! Some companies rent you a bike, others you use your own.....bikes like cx500 & gt550 were very popular then, so get a 400-600cc shaft drive bike and keep it in good nick. I guess sat-nav makes it a lot easier now, especially when you have a lot of jobs on at the same time!! I really enjoyed it, and the money was very good then i remember often taking home £300 + per week (this was early 80's) It does, however, take a lot of the fun out of motorcycling.....imagine you've been out on the bike all day and then all your mates pile over and suggest going out for a run!! All in all, i'd say give it a go!!
  18. Ha ha mine is "S" reg, but i guess its cos it was sitting round for a while in a showroom before being registered..... Just checked the V5, it was registered in december '77...thats late......must have been sitting round for a long time!!
  19. Redrose is 01706 839278 google them and you'll find their website. Chris. Pics come via photobucket i think.
  20. I think your'e misreading the 8, its 3 i'd guess. Ring Dave at redrose and he'll put you straight,ut i think i'm correct.
  21. Frame number should start 513. Could be an early 1976 bike. Generally, if its got a black tank with a white stripe, its'76 bike im sure blackhat will correct me if i'm wrong!
  22. there are several parts books on ebay at the moment. Make sure you get the right one. It has DT250/400 type 512/513 on the cover. Theres also a few manuals, u need the red & white one with DT400 B on the front. Then get the supplementary manual (white) with 400 C on the front. All on ebay at the moment. Chris.
  23. There are a few other threads on here regarding the twinshock 400's, i have one and so does blackhat. Anything in particular you want to know? Chris.
  24. Just a quick observation about the debate on the close fitting front mudguard. According to my parts book, the DT400 and no doubt the 250 too models for Norway and Sweden had the close fitting mudguard. (i'm talking about the 512/513 bikes here) The front forks are different, though (different part number, off a DT175 i think) So it's possible to do, though not quite correct for the UK market. Chris.
