  1. That sounds familiar, I would try giving them a call as if i remeber rightly i think i tried e-mailing 1st and didn't get a response.
  2. Hi Dave Try http://www.tytrials.co.uk/ I've used them for XT350 spares and they always had what i wanted, good to deal with as well. Hoggy
  3. Well Cynic, i wasn't quite ready to believe you and started re=-checking wiring and comparing the resistance on the charging and lighting coils with my spare engine, but couldn't find any faults. i then realsied that the generator puts out AC so checked that and found about 6.5v at tickover rising to 12 odd as you reved it up. I stripped the tank off to try your trick with the regulator and disconnected it first then thought it would be better to leave it connected, start her up then disconnect, lo and behold when I started it up their was light! Doh! it was just aloose connection on the regulator. I've now put cable ties round the connector to stop it vibrating loose. Cheers for your help guys
  4. Thansk Paul, but unfortunately it doesn't help, I remember that post form Chappers at the time and felt really smug because I'd already sorted my wiring out. As i said originally the lights were working fine for a caouple of months but have suddenly stopped working. Should the voltage across the battery rise when you rev the bike up? The lights were always a bit prone to brightening when the bike was rev'd previously. Did the figure i mentioned above sound right? Thanks Fraser
  5. Hi guys I've got a severe lack of lighting on my XT350, they were working up until recently when both front and tail lights have failed. On this bike the lights only work when the engine is running (the neighbours love me when I'm trying to sort this out, loud pipe and ticking over for hours!!) I've checked the wiring back through the loom for continuity with a multimeter and all is ok and I also tried running a live feed from the battery to the lighting circuit and everything works so traced it back through and there doesn't appear to be any voltage coming from the lighting coil, the manual say's to check the charging coil and i get a reading of 00.4 ohms with the book saying 0.41 to 0.51ohms so i think this is OK. But when you put the multimeter across the battery with the engine running the voltage does not increase as you rev it, it just stays at 11.98V. The bike runs fine other wise so am I missing something obvious, surely the charging circuit must be working otherwise it wouldn't run? Any ideas??? Thanks Fraser
  6. How would i know if its a vacuum tap and how does it work? - new one on me that and me being a plumber, i know my taps. Anyone know if the tap can be stripped apart? How do i sort the float needle - to be honest carbs terrify me - seems like a black art, reading the manual about setting the float height seems like a complete mare, i might have to break the golden rule and take it to someone else to fix. Then again, maybe not. cheers for the help so far.
  7. I bought a good bottom end and then bought got the chance of a complete engine, both off ebay, yuo just have to keep an eye out. If your interested i have a good bottom end, no play in the bearigns, new cam chain and also the top end off my original engine, head looks ok to me but the piston's shot and the barrel needs rebored. I was going to build it up into a full engine but now the bikes on the road I've lost interest in the spanners
  8. allright guys, My XT350 keeps leaking petrol out the drain of the bottom of the primary carb, i cleaned the drain screw and blown out the seating with carb cleaner but it still won't stop! It also does it continually, even when the petrol is switched off (the tap does work correctly) Hows that then? Anyone got any bright ideas? (no comments about boxes of matches please!!) Thanks
  9. Glad you've got it sorted but what was the magic fix?
  10. Just the wheel would be good, how much do you want for it?
  11. Thanks for that, still could be difficult to find though. By the way who or what is zedder?
  12. Dealers can't (or won't?) help - part number for my hub is 34X-25111-02-98 any body match this to anything else??
  13. Cant measure the hub but the spindle is approx 15mm dia but heres a cuople of pics (if they load correct, never done this before) I'll try one of the dealers and see if they can help with the part numbers. Cheers
  14. Stripped the speedo drive out today and it seized solid. Also tried the leccy drill again on the speedo cable connected to the speedo- no luck, reversed the drill and hey presto speedo does work - result. Speedo drive is sitting in penetrating oil now so hope i can get it apart and cleaned.
  15. Starting routine for mine is - choke on, kick it over and hey presto, away we go. Being serious though, I would try full choke, no throttle and make sure you get a full swing on the kick starter, if that doesn't get it to fire within 3 kicks knock the choke off and try again with no throttle, again if that doesn't work try just a little bit of throttle. I think i'm pretty lucky to be honest because the engine that came with the bike was a dog, it would barely start and smoked like hell. I bought a 2nd hand engine off ebay which I found out after had only doen 14000 km it was form an import bike that a guy breaks and once i'd put it in it fired up 3rd kick. Good luck and hope that helps.
