  1. You have a UK spec bike by the sound of it. The ignition switch for the UK models does have 10 wires, in two blocks, a six and a four. Good luck on finding an ignition switch, they are as rare as hen's teeth. You can use the switch off the 100, 125, 175 or 400 models off the UK 75/76 models though so keep your eyes peeled for a breaker. Chris.
  2. I'll have a look on Mine :-) What colour wire is it? i know there is a spare wire, depending on whether you use the daytime or night charging circuit. is it it either green or green& red? I have a colour diagram i can e-mail you if you want. (its too big to upload here) also found the chassis dating info: your bike is a 1972 DT2 : DT2 Year: 1972 Start Engine#: DT1F-105101 So it will be ither silver or orange Chris.
  3. I'm restoring a 1973 DT3, (see my pics in "new member" or other section here.) Very rare bike in this country, though andy at Yuniparts is bringing bikes in now. I think he's selling a DT3 for about £2000 ish. Mine was in such a state i've had to replace everything so it will be more of a recreation than a restoration. Let us know how yours is progressing!

Yep its either a '72 0r '73 DT2 or DT3. it's obviously been repainted at some point in the past, and the oil tank is missing the "tourque induction" emblem, but my money is on it being one or either of those. There's only minor mods between the Dt2 and 3 so the vast majority of parts are interchangeable. look on US ebay for parts books which will be a great help to you.
  5. yes, if you can post the chassis number an accurate date date can be arrived at.
  6. My crankcases also say dt1-f, and its a 1973 DT250 DT3- do you have any pictures or bodywork? what colour is it? Almost nothing exsists in the UK for this bike, get everything from ebay U.S
  7. I think not. The early at/ct/dt models had exhausts which emerge to the right hand side of the bike, while the later models have pipes which go under the seat and come out on the left hand side...i could be wrong, but search google images to be sure. Chris.
  8. Some parts are indeed like hen's teeth, and when you do find them its silly money (i paid £170 for a NOS l/h handlebar switch). The main problem is that a lot of the parts are country specific, particularly electrical bits. I've never seen an ignition switch, for instance, though i'm considering having a batch made as i have one off the 175, and its the same as the 125, 250 and 400 models too. Andrew at Yuniparts now has a stock of wiring looms and lots of other hard to find parts made (l/h handlebar switches coming soon, i think)so life will get a little easier. Must become a paid up member here so i can beg for parts!
  9. I like these 70's TS bikes. Glad to see parts prices seem to be more reasonable than the DT's. Hopefully I'll have the 175 up and running soon....

  11. That's looking like a cracking bike John. My 175 is in a slight state of disrepair now, as i'm going to rewire it along with doing all the other "little" jobs! How have you mounted the number plate bracket? on that funny little plinth thing or is it a different mounting? Chris.
  12. I think the car your'e referring to is the green one with the white roof. It's a 1950's MG Magnette. I bought it when i was doing a course in vehicle restoration at college. Needless to say its nowhere near finished!

    DT175

    Agreed! my dt250 DT3, because of the state it was in (see my post) is more of a recreation than restoration. I'd estimate more than 90% of the parts used are NOS but i will definitely ride it and use as intended, i'm not precious about it at all. I'm not going to be trailering it to shows in a heated van with carpet, it'll be ridden with muck and dirt wiped off if appropriate!
  14. Hi TTB, The DT3 tank is competition green. I struck lucky (if my bank manager would call it that) and found a NOS tank in the US. Bought it for $600, just over £300 at the time....the tank that came with the bike was u/s so had to find something. It's been resprayed in the US by the business i bought it off and is stunning.

    Thats lovely, did you get it from yuniparts? i wouldnt restore it either, it looks good enough to use as is, and has plenty of patina.

  19. If you widen your search on ebay to "worldwide" you will find loads, particularly in asia.
  20. Ok, after ages looking at other people's resto's, heres the story with mine. The DT3 (1973 DT250 US import) i bought on a whim about 2 years ago as there was nothing about in the UK at the time.It was a complete wreck. Now of course there are a few dealers bringing in the bikes that everybody wants, but anyway i'm stuck with it now. Just about everything has had to come from the US or Asia, greatly adding to the cost of the resto overall. When its finished, hopefully this year (ha ha), it will be a rare and beautiful thing i hope. I've now found a garage very close to where i live in Berkshire, and at last can bring all my bikes and bits up from Sussex and get on with it. The '76 DT400 C type 513 is a UK model, and bought for £500 as a more or less complete bike. Like the 250, i have found (eventually) some really hard to find parts....Andy at Yuniparts has been great in getting them copied at his factory and now he sells repro wiring looms, rubber bits and more, with handlebar switches for this particular model coming online soon. I'm leaving the 400 as is for now, until i finish the 250. The DT175 '76 type 1G1 i bought as a 99% complete running bike for £800 a few weeks ago. Got a NOS rear mudguard and will give it a bit of TLC over the coming weeks with a view to getting it MOT'd .
