So I'm finally getting round to starting my project thread. The main reason I havn't so far is because I can't drag myself away from the bike! A friend who dabbles in bikes was offered this when he put an ad in the friday-ad for "Project Bikes wanted". He wasnt interested but knew i liked 2-stroke powervalve models so offered it to me. I ended up paying £170 for it. My plan is to put it on the road and use until I find the right RD350LC YPVS. So i pushed it home, put everything back on that had been taken off and this is what it looked like. I Love It! It may be in a mess and the graphics are awful but the look of the bike is, in my opinion, fantastic…

Just had a seed of a thought, and it is just a crazy idea at this stage, but, and OG I'm hoping for some input from you mate, along with others, But have had a thought about using my oil pump cable, (as it will be redundant as I'll be going pre-mix,) for operating the powervalve, mines a manual one at the min, I can only have it on two settings, locked open, and locked shut and although the cables and pulleys are easy enough to get hold of, the servo's aren't, and that depends if it's a 3 wire or a 5 wire one, plus they inna cheap. Has anybody any knowledge of this being done, and if not, do ya reckon it would work?

Picked this up on Tues for what i think was a very good price.... Only mods im aware of are Renthal bars, and a full Big One exhaust. Powervalve is stuck open ( does it need battery to operate??) Battery Dead apart from that runs fine. Cosmetically she's pretty good, but of surface rust on swingarm/frame and some paint damaged on plastics but what do you expect on a 22year old off roader! Off out in an hour or so to Four Marks in Alton, Hants for a bit of a "getting to know you" session. Hopefully ill be a lot more confident by time i get back! (as well as bruised, bleeding etc!) Will update with progress as and when its made! But befo…

  4. Hello, I just bought a 1984 Yamaha FJ 600, thats a 4 cyl half fairing type sports tourer for $800. Great bike for a taller rider. It has about 50,000 km on the clock, new bearings in the front by seller, and battery. dampeners. 1. Where is the best place to buy FJ parts on the internet?? Its hard to even find a taillight lens! $40 for a piece of plastic? wow! I'm trying to find a lower fairing too... and a right mirror. 2. Tire reccomendations- I've read that Metzlers or Dunlaps are good. But I dont know. I'm a newer rider so I am looking for good grip, confidence builder, longevity, and wont kill me in the rain. 3. Any ideas on upgrading the carbs etc to run …

Hi all, many moons ago i cut my teeth on an 88 genisis thou, it has always had a special place in my bike memories, and last week the gods of two wheels saw fit to put a 1990 fzr 1000 in my path for the sum of 300 sheets. I kind of knew we were destined to spend a long time in the shed together from the phone call, but she's now in my van,in more pieces than i can count along with a new akropovic race can as the pipes are more than a little shagged. I work away from home most of the time so this is going to be a long rebuild it's gonna need a lot of time and lovin to get this bike back to the brute it once was but i'm meticulous and determined and can't wait to start.the …

Hi there. Just been given a bile that is in need of repair. I think it may need rings or something like that,, no compression. I'll pull it apart and have a look. I don't have much info on this bike, would somebody know how I can find out what year it is? Also, where would be a good spot to buy a rebuild kit? I'm in Victoria, Australia. Any tips would be appreciated.

Ok, after ages looking at other people's resto's, heres the story with mine. The DT3 (1973 DT250 US import) i bought on a whim about 2 years ago as there was nothing about in the UK at the time.It was a complete wreck. Now of course there are a few dealers bringing in the bikes that everybody wants, but anyway i'm stuck with it now. Just about everything has had to come from the US or Asia, greatly adding to the cost of the resto overall. When its finished, hopefully this year (ha ha), it will be a rare and beautiful thing i hope. I've now found a garage very close to where i live in Berkshire, and at last can bring all my bikes and bits up from Sussex and get on wit…

This is a continuation of an earlier blog I had going when I was trying to get the old 79 DT running. Now that I have it running I find that it is still very hard to start when the engine is cold. Carb has been rebuilt and cleaned 3 times! The air screw is set at factory 1.5 turns. here is a link to a video of how it sounds when first starting. Eventually.... about 50 kicks or so, I can get it to start up. http://s913.photobucket.com/albums/ac333/davidscott59/yamaha%20carb/?action=view&current=P1010154.mp4 Anybody have any ideas of where to go from here?
