Hi, I am new to this site and a new Yamaha tx500 owner. I was wondering if anyone could tell me about replacing my engine with a xs400? Is it possible and what would be the pros and cons? I hope I don't sound totally stupid, but this is all new to me and I would appreciate any help I could get on this. Thank y'all so much.

  2. I couldn't find a thread about this issue, but on my Tx500, I have removed the old seals, which didnt come off completely, and I am trying to install new ones. Here's my dilemma. If youre looking down into the lower fork tube, you have a "flange" that the fork seals sits below(thats how they were when I took them out). and with all my might, I am having trouble getting the seal past this "flange." Since the diameter of the seal and its rigidity is bigger than the diameter of this flange I am flabbergasted on how I am going to get this thing in? I have already ruined one seal trying to force it in with a socket and mallet. Am I missing something? I feel like I am missi…

Hi Eveveryone, Just bought my first bike restoration project, a 1973 YB100. From what I've seen on Google Images and Haynes so far it looks like some details were changed in 1975 then more in later years. If anyone has images they would care to share, or a sympathetic owner of a 1973/1974 model who is within reasonable driving distance of Manchester and would not mind a visit from me and my camera I would be grateful. Thanks, Grahame

Hello, I'm mike, got my first when I was 8. It was a gt 60. Been addicted ever since. Anyway, got a 74 dt 175 today, put a battery in it and nothing, no lights, horn, nothing.Power is flowing around at ignition, and other places as well. Pulled the flywheel and looks like the condenser has been soldered like someone tried to change it. Stator bolts are very badly stripped. Anyone have any idea's as to the no power and no spark? Ever heard of none of the electronics not working? Thanks for any help

Gent's I joined the club because for the last 2 years I have been trying to get hold of a 1974 RD200 with gold paintwork and white and black striping starting at a point on the top and curving round to a broad black and white stripe on the side. Does anyone know of one for sale in the country in any condition. I am more than happy to pay any reasonable price for one and will collect. It's the last bike I need, to have replaced every bike I have ever owned. Regards Dean.

Hello All, I thought I'd say HELLO from the Great Lakes state of Michigan! I have a 1975 DT 175 Enduro that was my bike beginning in 1978. It was ridden quite a bit until the mid 1980's, then stored away. It is like new. Now, my son wants to ride and I pulled it out of the barn and we're working on it together. I just ordered a Yamaha repair and serivce manual for it, which will help. Everything on it works, and I've had it running. Except, I "cleaned" the carburator a bit too well and the configuration/adustment of the jets, is now off. I have another bike in the barn too. It is an early 70's (I think) AT2 125. We have that in "rough running" condition…

I just bought my first bike for from a farmer in Wisconsin. A blue 1975 RD200 with 1200 miles. The bike is in great condition, no rust even original tires. Looks brand new, was sitting a barn for 20 some years. I stared it and turned over, but stared making a loud squealing noise. It is really a cool bike so I just had to have it. The farmer sold it to me for $200 because of the strange noise the engine was making. I hope it did not waste my money. Just wondering if anyone knows what might be the problem and how much to fix? Also, what it might be worth after it is runnning smoothly. I hope to ride it this summer. Thanks!

hi everyone,i have inherited a 1976 dt 175 and have a question regarding missing parts,is there a reason why someone would remove the head/tail lights and oil tank/speedo and just leave the tacho i'am a little bewildered why this would be unless its for a specific reason.any ideas please. thank you.

Hi all my first post, just finishing last project and during a lull awaiting parts looking ahead at dt250. Looking at the id tag on the headstock it has 9/76 but it is clearly a single shock, which my research tells me should be the last year of the twin shock. Engine and chassis numbers match so I don`t think it`s been tampered with. I`ll be looking for all the electrical components as it comes to me wired with no gizzards at all just wired to run (does run) with minimal wires, no battery, rectifier, voltage reg etc. Steve

Hi All, Got a DT400mx import last month, its a little dream of a bike in good baseline nick. Got a bit of work to do yet though before I can justify getting the paint & decal work sorted. It starts perfect and idles fine, the trouble is once it goes onto main jet it bogs out atrociously. Done a bit of minor tinkering ie. new plug & air filter, but to no avail. Took it up the road the other day (in third) and turned the fuel tap off for a brief moment and there was a short burst of power which suggests an excessive fuel flow. Got a carb referb kit to fit to see if that will sort it (with float height setting check). Thing is the carb has a lot …

my title has 1978 yz80, but the bike has 2 back shocks. I would tend to believe it is a gt80. Never-the-less, does anybody know if I can get away from the points and go to cdi, and would it be worth the effort? Thanks

Hi there guys, In late 2011 a friend of mine bought a Yamaha DT100 to do up with his wife, she wasn't interested and he didn't have the time to do it himself, so I managed to pick it up for a bargain £75! After getting it home, I did the standard ''Use buckets of water and mum's sponges for the dishes to get all the mud and crud off it, but also messing up the patio'' technique. After I got it clean (relatively) I decided to use the next ''take off everything you can and put it in a pile'' technique. The next thing I did, was cover it in WD-40, put it under a tarp and forget about it. It's now 2013, and after remembering I have a bike in the shed in pieces I'…

Unfortunately this is the only missing piece so if anyone could help it would be most appreciated. Cheers Jason
