Just bought my first bike in slightly more parts than i originally thought it would be in but its in much better condition than i expected aswell, just needs asmbly. come into a few problems two main ones at the moment. 1: throttle cable (from the splitter to the handle) has just been changed by me for a brand new one yet it still has the problem of the original one. It doesnt return to idle it just gets stuck. is this common? 2:which areas do the clutch/throttle/front brake go through from handles to there destinations. cant seem to figure that one out. is there a diagram anywhere? Help would be very appreciated, Chris p.s. Is there any l…

Hello all, Well after too many years, (had a CT1 that was almost new) I just bought a 79 Dt175. Started first kick at sellers house, then died like out of gas, but it had gas ( very old). cleaned carb, replaced gas but no vroom. Tank off checked all connections, battery 6.0V but little or no spark at plug. Metered trigger line to coil and see a pulse when I kick it. On/off switch working. I think the ignition switch kill circuit is in parallel with the on/off switch so I'm assuming him switch works. metered the coil from the common wire to trigger wire, and plug lead and seem ok though I don't know what value range is good. Does anyone have more detail on the…

Hi, can anybody tell me if it's ok ( and if it is what is the best way ) to change the 2 stroke oil in my DT. I don't know what oil it is using at the moment but I bought a good quality oil and would feel better using it. Thanks for all the replies to my previous post about the bike stalling, it just past mot at dealers they checked the bike but couldn't find anything wrong with it. Since having it back it seems to idle a bit quicker but no problems when putting it in gear. Thanks.

So I have a 1981 DT175 and am having a bit of problems running was looking for some help. I was trying to ride it recently and it would start and get into 1st go a few feet and stall. I did some searching and have: adjusted the petcock for optimal fuel flow adjusted carb float for more gas checked pilot jet and airways put new clamps on carb and filter blocked small hole on case to oil injector I also have two rubber seals on each side of my carb not sure if they are supposed to be there Now it wont idle with choke off and stalls when shifted into gear. I am running pre-mix. From what I have read it could be: stuck clutch plates air leak preve…

just out of curiosity what would cause the engine oil to find its way into the flywheel casing? I knew where to look for the problem as two separate people had suggested that i check the flywheel. Someone suggested that it was some seal that had failed (i can't remember what, crankshaft maybe? i honestly can't remember what was said hahaha) . But long story short it has died a horrible death LOL Here's a photo of the inside.

hi all recently done a top end rebuild on my dt std piston runs fine only done 3,000 miles but Im thinking of putting a 170cc kit on :-) for more power i always see people on YouTube poping wheelis in 3ed although mine won't. a 170cc Is around £400 for cylinder piston rings ... i understand how it all bolts together. What Im confused about is changing carb and jets to run corectly obviously i dont want to fit all new piston and blow it up or damage it. also will it need to have the oil pump changed with a 170kit will it need more 2 stroke oil? if i can't use std carb because i won't run correctly what carb will.fit ? Any help would be very helpful. even more helpful i…

Basically had a look underneath the engine today and found a little hole in my engine casing, I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure there shouldn't be a little hole there, if someone could help me would be great, on any advice etc as the only thing I can think of is some sort of drainage system

Just in case you all think that I am too biased, I should point out that the XT is hard work on Motorways. 75 mph+ over any distance is seriously hard work and it kills your arms: It + rider have the aerodynamics of a brick. If you are into big fast tarmaced/paved distance work the XTs are not as good as dedicated tourer. On a weekend to the South of France and back any half decent faired road bike would kill the XT. blow it into the weeds. If, on the other hand, you are planning to cross Africa between January and April, the XT is the right tool for the job. Additional Edit - On my recent trip to Scotland 150 Motorway miles were tolerable because we kept to 75 mph and …

Hello, I recently purchased a 97 Yamaha RT100 and I am having issues with it bogging over time and stopping. When we first got the bike it would run fine for about one blast down the street and as you slow down you could hear the engine start to bog and die. When the engine started to die you would have to give it almost full throttle to keep it running, and even at full throttle the bike will continue to run but the engine doesn't really accelerate. We then started with cleaning the carb and checked for factory settings. All jets removed cleaned, float bowl height measured, needle clip checked, pilot screw 1 1/2 out from seated position. The bike still has the s…

My MOT is due and its booked in for wednesday and im worried the tyres wont pass and tbh they are rubbish anyway (cheng shin ditchfinders !) so im after a good set. I very rarely go off road much so looking for somthing with more grip on the black stuff but cant seem to find much info ? also the sizes dont seem to add up when looking on tyre sites the sizes on the tyres say 4.00 x 18 rear and 2.75 x 21 front . So what do you use ? Cheers, James.

I've just bought a motocross style helmet to match my bike. I've just tried it out after switching from a full face sports style. I wanted to change because I wanted a helmet that would match my bike, also I was sick of the visor steaming up all the time. Straight away I noticed the wind catching under the peak and lifting my head. I also noticed the goggles I bought (ones that match the helmet) dig into me and are n't that comfortable. The helmet is the right size as well, so it's not too big or too small. I have place the goggles on the outside of the helmet, I'm sure thats the proper way.
