hi all, blew my DTR up this week end, what i have found, seems like the power valve made contact with the piston rings, the power valve is soo vey close to the rings, and the barrel was rebored 0.5mm over sized. its done a good few k miles before it went pop.. but i was 80+ for 15-ish miles 10k revs. backed off the throttle ,and pop. was thrashng the bollox off of it. over sizing the bore makes the rings closer to the P.V. so my question is, would the massive heat in the piston at full chat. expand so far, that contact with the power valve caused this. also, pic of the PV in the shut position , closesst to a piston ring. why the …

Hi folks, I currently own a Yamaha DT125R trail bike and the carburettor keeps flooding the engine due to the float valve needle being worn. The carburettor on my bike is a Mikuni VM26SS and I would like to know if the Molkt 26mm carburettor would fit as a replacement to it? Or are there any other alternative carburettors for this bike? Cheers

I recently bought a 1981 DT175. Maybe I'm expecting too much but it seems to be down on power. I ran a compression check and 1st kick had 75psi, 2nd kick 85 3rd kick had 100psi. The bike wont idle and niether screw on the carb affects the idle or performance of the bike. It only had 1800 miles (if odometer is correct) on it. Should this bike have a power band . It doesnt seem to when get the rpm's up. Any advice would help. Thanks

Hi there, I am brand new to this forum and could really use you fellas help. After wanting a DT 175 MX since I was an 11 year old boy growing up in Leeds, England (my 18 year old neighbor had one back in 1979). I finally found one a few miles up the road from where I now live in Atlanta, USA. Bike is not sparking from plug cap or ht lead. I pulled the ignition cover only to find the flywheel compartment one third full of two stroke oil. Is this usually the case with a DT that's been sat for 30 years? Bike had been stored in a covered shed. It was very dusty from storage. It does have some surface rust that wipes off easily with fine wire wool. Looks like the carb is…

Hello All, So I just got a DT 175 that has not been running for a year or two. When I got a hold of it the tank was very rusted so I cleaned and re-lined it. I put a new Carb on it. I have checked the Ignition coil and it passed. I found that I am not getting any power to the coil when kick starting it. I checked the charge and pulsar coils to factory specs. They were low ( around 360 when it called for 410) but it would seem I would get some spark from it. I was wondering any other tests I could do. I was thinking that perhaps the CDI unit has gone out. The other issue is that when I pulled the magnet housing off the crank shaft the woodruff key had sheered. Now …

Just got new xt125 and after owning a 125 before was expecting a bit more speed, but can't get the bike over 45ish! Is this because it's restricted, still running the engine in or a bigger problem? Any help would be appreciated. Also any1 else's speedo stop working?

RE: Rust on exhaust Bike: Yamaha DT 125 RE (2006 reg). As many of you already know the exhaust (front and end pipe) on a DT 125 can rust very quickly. When I bought the bike a month ago with 10.000 miles it already had some rust on the exhaust. After riding for a month it's getting much worse and becoming very ugly. I don't wanna spend too much money on it (credit crunch LOL). How hard would it be to remove the exhaust from the bike and spray it in black with high temp exhaust paint shown in the following pages: http://www.adrenalin-pedstop.co.uk/p/HIGH-...PAINT-1027.aspx or http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/...tegoryId_165495 Perhaps I…

hi there, i just bought a 1986 yamaha xt350 and there are some problems... firstly the speedo reads faster than it should, goes up as a percentage...eg when going 20 it reads around 25 and when i go 30 it reads 40mph. is this normal for this bike? wrong size wheel? the bike also occasionally backfires, i noticed the exhaust is missing a screw so is not completly airtight at engine end, is this why? also the engine chokes at around 6500 rpm then continues through the revs fine...could that be to do with the exhaust? also are there any tips on starting the xt...can be a real workout at times! thankyou, any advice would be greatly appreciated. cheers max

Hi Guys ( and Gals).. Some 5 months ago I was up for getting back into the DT groove after some 25 + absence, when I unfortunately had to deal with a family crisis which needed all my focus and left me financially disadvantaged. ..Anyway, those times are behind me now and things turned out thankfully okay. Now I’m back on the quest for one of these Twin Shock DT’s and would appreciate your advice guys. Ideally I would like a DT400, but came across this beauty on FleeBay and had to have a look .. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=110414822994 Met the seller at his home and I must say he was a genuinely nice chap with a real passio…

Hey guys, I've recently bought a DT200R '88 and am working through the process of bringing it up to roadworthy status. The first hurdle is getting it working mechanically speaking as it has a few niggles here and there. It has apparently been bored out to 250cc so in this respect should be fairly newish engine wise (new gaskets etc). The first problem one is to do with the carbi (I hope). It refuses to run if the choke is off. It feels like it's running too lean so I'm trying a new pilot jet (current is 25, new is 35) to see if that helps things along. I have a small leak in the radiator, but I'm hoping stop leak will fix that. Removing the rear wheel was a…

I bought a cheap DT125MX from EBAY 2 years ago, with the intention of refurbishing it, and putting it back on the road. I've had a few yamaha's, DTR125, RD125LC, TZR250, and my current ride which is a '93 FZR600. I always wanted a DT125MX when I was a teenager, but went down the path of driving lessons, car etc, and whilst learning to drive I ended up with loads of 100's.... I am now at the stage where the DT is stripped, and my first project is to rebuild the top end. I've checked the con rod, and the bottom end, and it is sound, and I am therefore not looking to split the crankcases. I am however going to explore the age old myth of swapping the 125 barrel for the …
