Hello everyone. New guy Bruce here. I'm trying to get the wife's '73 CT3 175cc back on the road after years of garage storage. When I "prime the pump" (put fuel in the cylinder through the plug hole) it will start and run as long as the RPMs are kept above idle. Don't know the RPM needed, the tach doesn't work. It seems to run just fine all through the gears & at all speeds but she will not idle & will not re-start when shut off. I've cleaned the carb as best I could w/carb cleaner aerosol. Am having great difficulty finding a rebuild kit or new carb on the net. Any idea? Part sources? Any help greatly appreciated.

My headlight and tail light bulbs blow within a minute. I don't know much, but do know some. It wasn't the earth. These two lights get their electricity straight from the magneto, not via the battery. So I reckon it is basically that the voltage regulator isn't working right, and that is what is blowing them. I think it is under the tank. I'm sorting a little problem with my magneto at the moment, so i know the lighting coils are good and so is the condenser, so i would like to just continue a bit further and get the headlight and tail light working. I suppose the best thing would be to replace the parts like the regulator and whatever. I wouldn't be able to test the…

Hi all, as per my intro post trying to get back into riding again but it has been a few decades since I had to fix them. I recently was given an old 2 stroke 74 TY250 trials bike. It had been sitting in someones shed for a while but done the basic checks, etc and it has been running ok for the last few weeks until now. Now it won't kick over anymore and I can confirm the following... You'll have to excuse my ignorance as It's been a while since ive done this. Got spark (put new spark plug in) spark is good, every kick and looks strong. Petcock is fine, fuel is going into carb, thought I would take the carb off and clean it but when I opened it up I was s…

I just picked up a complete 1974 YZ 125, for $300, and it runs! Its in Pretty Good Shape, most all parts useable. Im having a hard time finding info on it, and parts. I need a gasket kit, and so far only bike bandit sells gaskets, and their individual (around $5-$10 EACH) which will get expensive real quick. I would like to find just pictures, so far ive only found a red/silver one, and mine is yellow. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi there folks, Fairly recently, I purchased a 1975 Ag175 (If I can work out how to add a picture, I will). It's in good condition with, seemingly, about 5,000kms under its belt. I gave things a reasonable clean up (carb, points, oil) and got her going and running OK. Lacks power, but smooth enough. Upon getting hot, she blows a large amount of white smelly smoke. Assuming this was gearbox oil coming through the crank seals, I changed out both and the thin o-ring on the right hand side. I also cleaned out the exhaust pipe, although this was pretty clear. Finally, I also pulled off the head and barrel. I didn't measure anything up, but it looked pretty good, with some hone…

Just a quick question on the autolube adjustments. I've seen some people say that Yamaha gives a spec as to how much oil should come out with 200 strokes. I can't find the actual spec for my model. Both Haynes and Cylmer manuals dont give that info. I found one forum saing about 5cc/ml per 200 strokes open throttle for a later mx model. Anyone know the specs for my model? Thanks!

hi, 2 years ago, I bought a 1975 Dt125, which I found buried at a mates furniture workshop. it hadn't been on the road for 20 years, but was quite tidy considering. I got it going and rode it for the summer, and it went ok, but vibrated a lot over 50mph. last year I was too busy to do anything with it, but I am looking to get it tidied up for this summer. I have a few questions that I'm hoping someone may be able to help me with. Firstly, to enable me to buy the correct bits, I wonder if anyone could clarify what model this is? the engine number is prefixed with 1F9-, does this make it an "F" model? that would make sense, but from what ive read, its a bit early for that? …

Turn signals light but do not flash. Horn does not work but high beam light dims when horn button is pushed. Headlight is fine when battery is fully charged but will turn dim at idle after running bike for about 30 min. (Battery not charging?) Will brighten when bike rpm is reved up. Any ideas? Thank you.

Advice/thoughts please. Should I just get these rewound, and if so who'd be good to do it? Or could i buy a replacement? Or maybe electronic ignition? I don't know a lot, so even if it is simple let me know please. inside the flywheel the cam runs free. This must need to be held in place. So there is a little hole in the bottom of the cam and then the retarder (I think it is called something like that), and which you can see failed and the arm of it came loose and chewed up the coils. Well, that little arm should go into that hole to hold it in place??? I'll need another one of those or have to make the old one do, but what are they called? Anyway, here's t…

Hello, Just started here. I was needing some help on a 1975 Yamaha tx500 that has been sitting for 10+ years. A friend and I cleaned the carbs, the tank and was set to take it out. The idle sounded great, but when it was put into gear it was at half power with full choke and wanted to die. I pulled the top of carbs thinking that it wasn't getting enough air for fuel mixture. It seems that fuel is getting to both sides. Then I put my hand on the exhaust, the right side is firing warm but the left side was cold. I pulled the left plug and it was sparking a nice white/blue spark. My friend put a comprsion gage on it and it has the same compression on both sides. My question…

I recently acquired a 1976 RS 100C with less than 5K miles. It doesn't need much attention, but I want to replace the tires. The bike came with a 2.5-18/front and 2.75-18/rear. The Owner's Manual says these were the proper tires, but my Haynes Workshop Manual says 2.75-18/front and 3.00-18/rear. Can anyone tell me which is correct and/or recommended. I'd like to stay as close to "original" as possible. Thanks, Bob
