  1. Started by slice,

Just thinking about Cynic saying he had a low range on his new bike, so looked up what was out there to extend your range if your a bit too enthusiastic with the throttle! So I found this guy who, apart from the poxy music, seemed to have a couple of good ideas. If we do go for the "YOC does Italy" option this might work if we carried a couple just in case. Also it is illegal to carry a "soft" type of fuel bladder in the UK and Europe, or so I'm informed.

So about a couple of years back i traded an old Honda project for a fairly decent Yamaha DT100 LT2 which i though would make a great base for a project. Only just got round to starting it, i am by no means an expert mechanic i have picked up a few things over the years but decided its in my best interest to join up a forum to seek advice from people that are more knowledgeable than me 😁 over the next few months i am hoping to post up pictures https://drive.google.com/file/d/12Q77UiutTiY2a7-m2Ds3oJpLh6aAtjG6/view?usp=drivesdk of the process in getting it road worthy and registered on an age related plate :) and hope to make many friends along the way

  3. Hi, I am thinking about buying this motorcycle I have found used for a good price. It's in good condition, very well maintained. My concern is the cruising speed. I intend to use it for longish trips. I need something that I can cruise at 90kph (55mph) for several hours without issue. Someone told me that at these speeds with this bike I would need to stop every hour or so and let the engine cool. (I do live in a warm weather zone) So I guess it's two questions really, firstly what is the top speed can you comfortably cruise for longer distances on one of these bikes, and how big of an issue is overheating? PS: I suppose I could also gear up and put in a smaller…

Crikey what a pain in the arse, had a leaky rocker cover gasket on the vmax, finally got to sorting it today after waiting for weeeeeeks for the damn thing to show up. What a thing to fit, officially you take off the seat, airbox, carbs, fuel pump, drain coolant, header tank......continue till dead. So like any good home mechanic I cheated. If you whip the seat off (4 bolts) you can get at everything but you have to change the gasket without taking the cover off, just lifting it maybe 15mm. Its fiddly, and a few strategic blobs of yamabond (or red hylomar) to make it behave. But it is possible if your careful and patient. All done in the time it would have…

Recently bought a 2013 EFI YBR125 and it seems to have a fault, but no error lights (The light does work on first turning of the key, so not a bulb issue). The bike starts first or second stab of the starter button and ticks over lovely and quiet, BUT is is really fluffy at picking up when cold and nearly stalls, so to be clear it doesn't increase revs cleanly, it has massive lag. Once it's ticked over for a few minutes it goes away and runs fine, and picks up cleanly. Air filter is spotless, plug looks OK if a little rich, has fuel. Is this "Normal" for cheap injected bikes, was expecting a nice clean pick up and pull away from the off?? Any advice/views greatly ap…

I'm relatively sure this is the place to post this, but I'm sure someone can move it if it isn't..! This is probably a very 'n00b' question, but: I've always wondered, under tail exhausts just (to me) look so cool! Neater, less visible, streamlining and hopefully cool... So... Why aren't more bikes built with them??? There's obviously at least one major downside to them, or I couldn't see why more bikes aren't built with them. So what is it? What makes them un popular to manufacturers?

  7. Hello, Im a first time poster here, and i am unsure if this is the right sub-forum for my topic, but this place was the one that made most sense to me. I bought a 1997 Yamaha YZF 600 Thundercat project bike this summer, and was hoping I would manage to fix it up. After some rounds of trial and error im not really getting any closer to fixing the problems with it. So i was hoping there where some Thundercat/Yamaha gurues here that could help me a bit with my problem. The thing is that when i bought the bike it wouldn't idle, but it could be driven so long as you kept the revs up a bit. My tiny experience with motorcycle repairs lea…

I have a custom Yamaha XS750 that has no labels for the warning lights. Currently the middle red one is on (and stays on when engine running) and I have read in a few places that this could mean oil OR brake light issues. I have only seen this in relation to earlier models though, can anyone confirm it is the same for the 1980? Thanks

  9. Hi all. I wanted to replace the locking cap on my tank. I've got a replacement already - looks fine. I can see the old and the new is fixed using what looks like a single bolt. I have to ask before I undo the old one - does the tank have a threaded hole or should I be trying to catch a nut that might drop off inside the tank. Hoping it's a threaded hole for obvious reasons. Thanks

I ride year round, and with all the weather we've been having lately they've been drowning the roads in salt, and with the lockdown, finding a jetwash open is near impossible! So, obviously the bike is taking a bit of a hammering. It doesn't help that it has a full fairing... After several slightly crap hand washes (I'm getting on and don't have a garage, so getting on my hands and knees in the freezing wet isn't easy or good lol), I've managed to find a jetwash and gave it a good 'low' pressure wash yesterday. I spent an hour messing around with it today, cleaned the chain, hand washed it, re-greased the chain and kickstand workings. Two question…

  11. On my DT 125 MX (1981), whenever I go WOT and a reach higher revs in each gear the engine starts stuttering rapidly and won't rev/accelerate any higher. This is annoying because it happens just as I get into the powerband. If I change the spark plug, the bike runs pretty sweet and can rev much higher but then after a few rides it goes back to the stuttering problem. Any suggestions to fix this? Cheers

Hi, Can anyone give me any idea why when I start the bike up after two minutes the generator outer cover starts to get very hot. I have exposed the generator assembly and as you can see from the pictures there are marks as if it was grinding with something. Or maybe it's as simple as the torque not being tight enought allowing movement when spinning? Hope this makes sense. Picture of the bike nearly completed...

  13. Started by Oliver.Rodwell,

Recently bought my first motorcycle, a 2011 yamaha ybr 125. I rode it a bit at the dealership and everything seemed okay; I have since taken it from london to durham on the back of a trailer (unfortunately I left it in neutral which I have been told isn't ideal). It has since developed an issue with the gearbox where sometimes (not everytime) it won't go from neutral into first gear. This is obviously rather dangerous as I can't pull away at junctions and am sometimes left stuck. If anyone knows anything about what might be causing this behaviour please let me know. Thanks.

I'll be starting work on my 1981 RD200 soon after Christmas and it hasn't been started since around 1990. Has anyone any top tips for getting it to start without damaging anything? The only engine prep so far has been to drop half a capful of Marvel Mystery Oil into the cylinders to free the rings. The insides of the fuel tank were atrocious. The fuel hadn't been drained and there was a lot of rust in there. The tank was filled with white vinegar and left for 10 days and now its looking pretty clean and no leaks, but the first start will be using a portable tank. The bike was garaged and is in pretty good condition, accept for some light rusting in a few places …

I am having difficulty removing the handlebar top cover / fairing on a 2014 Delight 115 scooter. I have removed the visible screws from the sides and the bottom of the cover but it still appears firmly fixed. I do not want to damage the plastics so have not tried forcing it off. There do not appear to be any workshop manuals available for this model, I have found a couple of free downloads on-line but none are in English and the diagrams are of little use. If anyone has had any experience removing the cover I would be grateful for any tips.

Hi All, I am loving my 2003 TDM 900, travelled over 2,000 miles since december. The suspension is a bit lacking, bit it is a 19 year old bike, so time for some upgrades I guess. I've tweaked the pre-load and rebound which has helped a bit; bit less sure about the fork brace though ! The next step is progressive fork springs, I'm looking at a set from Wirth DE, anyone tried them ? Cheers dave

i have just started to get clutch slip when the bike hits the powerband. the engine is on 34500 miles. so im guessing new friction plates and springs. are the EBC rebuild kits on Ebay good to use or should i go to for oem? not near a Yamaha deal which is annoying.

Hi all, Full story of the what happened, I rode for about 2 hours, stopped the bike for a couple of hours, got back on and rode for 20 minutes to a petrol station, it wasn't chugging but it was very low on fuel, I filled right up as I always do, headed off, got about 200m down the road maybe and she cut out, started again on the roll and then cut out as soon as I gave more throttle. Tried to start at the side of the road but no joy, tried bumping multiple times but no joy, a couple of pops but no start of course. Another bike stopped and suggested brimming it could of been the problem so I tried without the cap on, no joy, disconnected the tank and poured out some fu…

Morning all, I’ve just recently bought a 1978 XS1100, I’ve managed to get hold of Macho Maroon paint and am about to start a restoration of the bike, here is my question, is there anyone in or near the Kent area with a similar bike, as I would like to have a look at a couple of things that isn’t showing on the Haynes manual, anybody help?

Evening all. Been reading the forums here for ages, thought I'd actually post for once and see if you guys can help me. I have a YBR125 that I hardly use any more, got bigger shinier bikes now! Would really like to sell it but I lost the V5 ages ago. I have the form to fill in to get the new V5 sent to me, but I have to put the VIN number on the form. I used this website which has a VIN 'decoder' on it for Yamaha's, to double check I had it right and it constantly comes up as an invalid VIN number. Website here: http://www.motoverse.com/tools/vin/yamaha.asp Don't really want to send the form off now, in case I'm getting it wrong somehow! Plus i'm not 100% …
