Hello, I purchased a DT-175 from a friend of mine, with the intention of restoring it. Neither of us have any idea what the year of the bike is, but our best guess is 1973-1975 area. Is there a way of discovering exactly what year it is? Thanks, Jeff

Hi, After several long hard months of saving, I am only a few bob short of affording my DAS. However, I'm not sure how I should go about it as I haven't road over winter and some pillock ran over my bike while it was parked up (pannier rack saved bike from any major damage) and I won't have my bike back for a few weeks. I know I need more practice (slow speed), and to do my theory test but I don't know any bikers who ride any more to go out with to point out mistakes and what not. Should I go straight to an instructor and do a 5 day course, including mod 1 and 2, or would having lessons be the better option? I can't afford to fail, money is fairly tight so I want to…

Hi, I've just purchased an affordable set of rear shocks that are about an inch longer than the stock for my 82 sr 250. The stock were thrashed and I found a new set on Ebay. They didnt come with instructions and I've never replaced shocks on any of my bkes. Is it possible to install these or will i have to make some modifications? Thanks

At last we have some nice weather! It's been lovely this past two days, I have been able to go out and actually enjoy riding my bike. It has been a miserable year riding in the rain and snow and it has been a massive downer. The rain never seemed to stop.

Hi all, We're featuring DT50MX restorers in our regular 'I restored a...' slot in Practical Sportsbikes magazine and I wondered if any of you who have restored one would be kind enough to share some of your experiences with your project. It would involve a chat on the phone (or email if you prefer) and you being able to send a high res photo of yourself with the bike to go with your words of wisdom. We're after hints/tips/advice/techniques - anything that might tempt someone to have a go themselves. If you'd be up for helping out, you can contact me via email at [email protected] or on 07875 736021. If you prefer, send me a contact number and I'll happily cal…

Just when I thought I was in the clear. CN ask me to send them the insurance certificate back as I cancelled it!!! That will be the 19 page off that they emailed then. I'm not printing a copy of that to stick in the post when I haven't printed it out in the first place. I sent them an email saying printed copies have been destroyed. Now I wait for the red tape to strangle me.

I've found a 1999 XVS650 classic for £1500 with 20,000 miles on it. I remember someone posting on here about checking monoshocks after a certain distance. Is there any other specifics to look out for as it seems a bit cheap? Has FSH and is used daily.

Hi just checking on the inner tube size for the rear tyre on my DT 125 R . the old one I took out was a CST 3.25/3.50-18 tube and the new one from Yamaha is a Bridgestone 4.10-18 tube . The tyre fitted is a Mithchelin Enduro 140-80-18 tyre. Asking because new tubes valve seems to stick through more as when tyou tighten the 2 nuts up there is visible rubber showing, not right i am thinking. Cheers.

Freeking twats, thieving scumbags http://www.visordown.com/motorcycle-news--general-news/padgett-family-devastated-after-bike-theft/30649.html#ixzz3wYeNC6L9 Clive Padgett: ‘We came back after Christmas and discovered that some people had decided they wanted part of my dad’s collection of bikes. They took several bikes including an RD250 and YR5. Those bikes are quite unique in that they are brand new and my dad’s devastated, as you’d expect. We’re at a loss really. This is part of Padgett’s heritage and part of the history of Yamaha coming to the UK. 'Some of the bikes are irreplaceable – where do you find another new YR5 in …

As I'm sure were all in the process of waking our bikes up from their winter snooze, excepting the hero's that ride all year. (been there fk that). Cleaned the bike, new chain, new oil run her up to operating temp, all good. Then decided on a run out to fill her up with some good fuel. Had an ok trip, did around 8 or 10 miles and the bike felt good. So, open her up for a bit of a blast on some local roundabouts where she goes unhappy. Carb had flooded shutting down one cyl 10 miles from home. I'm considering calling the man with a van when inspiration strikes, 99% of the way home is country road, soooooo, while the engine was still hot I pushed it back to…

Hello everyone, now, about 6 months ago I bought my wr125x brand new from Yamaha, since then I've done 1000mls, as I walked past my bike today at work I realised my coolant level was way below minimum. Now for a 65 plate bike with 1k on this doesn't seem right? It's not leaking, but it does smoke on start up when cold? Faulty headgasket? What do you guys make of this?? Cheers!!

So I've tried fixing my cheap project bike but failed and now just want it on the road, before I get too disinterested and de motivated in biking. Time to spend lots of money and take it to a garage as I don't know anyone who can fix it cheaply. Nor do I have the time, tools and knowledge despite all you help. So thank you all again
