xj600n knocking + fuel question,
so, my xj600n is back out the garage and ready for its MOT this weekend, few things i noticed were that there is a slight knocking noise coming from the bike when idle, was on yourtube and it sounds like it the norm for these bikes? also, in exitment to get out for a spin i put 2 stoke into it . . .(thanks to my old man not correcly labaling the fuel cans) after i noticed i emptied what was left of the tank, and filled with fresh fuel, but its still smoking like a chimney. is there anything i should do prior to my next trip on it? e.g. sparkplugs fuel filter ect? thanks! Matt

Restrictions done! new bike?
so, my restriction is due to be removed on my lincence in june, and i was thinking of getting a newer bike as an upgrade. Currently got a 1997 XJ600n, and that is about as "sporty" as im wanting, dont realy like full fairing race/sports bikes like the r6, r1 ect - dont find them suitable for commuting 60+ a day. any ideas? i quite like the xj6n, but wudnt mind something with a bit more power availability. . thanks

RD350R - caught speeding at 122.5mph?
now i dont know much about these bikes, so would someone please enlighten me : was looking at this website http://www.speed-trap.co.uk/Accused_Home/SpeedVSFines/SpeedVSFines.htm if you scroll down about a quarter of the way you will see "uk Prosecution Examples" and when looking at the types of vehicles came across the rd350r, that seems fast for a 350? whats the top speed of them ? i want one .. . . haha

Restricted Licence Bikes
i had my bike restricted for the first year, but after that they plates came out of the carbs, in my XJ it was like washers in the intel manifold, which restriced the air/pertol going into the bike, simple enought to remove and put in yet cost 250 quid? they washers cud be machined at home if you had the correct drawings, its a waste of money! on the insurance side of things, if you remove them your insurance is void as its goign against your modifications, after doing my bikesafe, it was pretty much said that if you dont decliar your bike is restricted to inurance your insurance wont be void for not having them on . . . but you will be driving against your licence's type? if you get what i mean . . the new restrictions coming into force in Jan, are just making it harder for young people to get on the road on a big bike, i dont see why they are making it harder than it already is - what would happen if they came out and said to all new car drivers they are restriced to a 1L car for 2 years ? people would be up in arms. . . .anyway, enough ranting for a monday morning

is it legal to have no rear mudguard
this has got me thinking . . . the moto guzzi i am doing as a project, im going to be restoring up to origonal, with newer tech where safer e.g. hoses ect, but i was planning making it so i can tranform it into a cafe just by changing the bars, seat mudguads exhuast ect. most cafe racers dont have a rear mudguard as such, like sitting over the weel, so would it not be up to the person to argue that there is some kind of mudguard in place ?

car insurance and bike NCB
as i have 3 years no claims on my bike, i was keen to hunt around for the same kinda insurance company as you are looking for when i got insured for my first car. being 19 and male getting first insurance for a car was allways goign to be costly ! haha i tried the carol nash 6 wheels things, but it turned out to be more expensive than insuring them sepretly - i suggest "insurethebox" the box for car but think carefully before selecting them as they fit a tracker to the car, and also there policy's are limited milage. . . but for me. that was the cheapest option at £1500 for a 2002 1.2L clio, that cost £1000! insurance companys are pump.

Hein Gericke in Administration
it is a shame, i have had textile clothing from them in the past and it did well, i will be keen to chekc out their prices when the sale goes on, just a shame cos it wa the only proper motorcycle gear shop we had locally, and its not the same buying stuff online when you cant try it on
