It started and ran for about 2 minutes then quit like someone turned off the key, even though the key is on... It has 120lbs+ of compression, good spark, yet wont so much as "pop", even with ether. I've put in a new plug, a new set of points and condenser. Still, nothing... I've checked the reed valves and they look ok. No visible leaks or damage. What now??? Help! I think I need to go back to school. I thought all you needed to make a motor run was fuel, spark, and some air? I've got compression, a spark, and fuel... It almost seems like it's out of time, but how could that be? I've also checked the key on the crank and it's fine. The Flywheel is indexed correctly. I'm totally baffled!!! Worst case is I'm hoping someone can tell me what the points gap should be... Best case is someone can give me some more advice on what to do next. Thanks in advance! The looks of the bike support this number. Are there other ways of trouble shooting a crank seal? danidge Posted August 4, 2007 Share Posted August 4, 2007 i have the same problem with my tzr. at first i thought it might have been the coil so i spent 35 quid on a new one cause i could only get genuine and still the same thing. it doesent evven fire atall and i have fuel, spark, and air like you. if i get a solution i will let you know, and you could give me a hand if you find out wats causeing your bikes problem (Y) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
fosdyke Posted August 6, 2007 Share Posted August 6, 2007 Hi Check iginition timing - if you have the 3 magic ingredients the bike should run, maybe not good - but it will run, but if the timings out it'll never go even if you pour petrol or starting fluid into the pot! As for checking leaking seals - and use this at your own risk! - one favoured method is - when the bike is running squirt starting fluid onto the seals and observe if the engine speeds-up indicating an air leak. I would strongly recommend having a fire extinguisher handy if you are doing this though!!!!! But try the timing first. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
