combat41 Posted May 29, 2013 Share Posted May 29, 2013 Hi everyone, I am currently building a bobber from an xs 250 1978, I have purchased a set of taper race bearings for the steering from a company called pyramid parts,However on attempting to fit them they seem to be too thick in size as before i replaced the top yoke there was not any thread to attach the castle type nut that is at the top of the bearing assembly. They advertised them as for fitting every year from 1977 onwards, I have two frames a standard 1978 xs 250 and a 1981 xs 250 custom, These bearings are the same on both frames, I am waiting to hear back frome the company as it maybe that they may have just sent the wrong part. Moderator drewpy Posted May 30, 2013 Moderator Share Posted May 30, 2013 the tapers are always thicker. you need to take out the bottom seal on the stem. that way you have some thread to go on. when they settle, you will need to tighten them a bit more. ensure all paint is off inside the neck so they set properly 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
combat41 Posted June 3, 2013 Author Share Posted June 3, 2013 Thanks mate, Are you talking about the top of the bearing at the lower end of the frame column, However it seems to me that there is nothing to hold the top of the lower bearing ? and this may come loose ? How do you remove the lower seal in the frame ? is it a push fit ? i only have a haynes manual for reference although i have a good engineering back ground, Any info will be of help Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
