DIY every time on any vehicle in the household for the same reason as Ryan09. I know 3 mechanics/techinicans and if you saw there bikes and cars you wouldn't let them near your stuff either. Anything else, if I can get it done by someone else all the better.

I've always thought garages try to rip you off as much as possible and I'm forced to DIY because of it. I'm just dreading the day that I can't do a certain task myself which means handing it over to an "expert" and being considerally out of pocket afterwards :(

For me, my bike is not my primary mode of transport, so I can afford to take my time on it (several years now :P), rather pay to get it done. If there's something I can't do myself, I usually refer to the Haynes book of lies, which inspires me to google it. And obviously on here for advice or Youtube for instructional videos. If there's something big that is a specialist job, I'll save up to buy the equipment to do it because I will learn for next time, and have to tools to do it for others, but then again, a YB100 isn't exactly a complex sophisticated machine.

Generally DIY first as most say. Theres some things that I would avoid im sure but ive yet to find them. My view is, if someone else can, why cant I? specific tools that are too expensive would put me off.

I'm happiest when in the garage tinkering with bikes. Even when I'm getting frustrated with something I can't work out, the eventual solution is rewarding. Anyone who has ever played "Portal" will understand this well!!!
