your right there, shame about the recent weather, but I suppose it is february after all, roll on the summer. are you in a local bike club or do you just go out with some mates? I would usually go out with my dad and a couple of his mates, he rides an oul Velocette 350 viper, nearly a match for my dt lol alot of monkey bikes go out aswell, those things can go, my dad clocked his mate at 77mph on a 110 or a 140cc, cant remeber now, but its fast enough on one of those wee things!!

I normally just head out with my mates, tho sometimes join my Dad & his mates - he's in several bike clubs, mainly vintage orientated.

Funny, my dad rides a Velocette too! Spooky lol

Really? what model of Velocette is she? me and my dad were thinking of taking the Velo racer up to the UGP for the classic parade laps this year, I'm not sure if a racing licence is needed to complete the parade laps, could your father shed any light on this?

He has a 1934 250 MAC & a 350 MOV from the fifties.

I'm not sure about the racing license, you'd be best to contact some of the officials, or maybe UGP supporters club

I see, both very valuble bikes, my dads has a 350 racer and a 350 venom, one is an mac and the other is ktt, I could be mistaken on that but I know the racer is quite special, I hope to get out on it this year, maybe get down to Kirkistown for a run and see how she goes!

Hope you get the answers you want re: the UGP and good luck.

Cheers, even if I cant get out for the pre il get out a Kirkistown, its a shame if the bike isnt raced, so I keep telling my dad lol

 You Boys are making me home sick, I am sitting in a hotel in Shanghai China reading the posts so thought I would join in. Over here on business for a spell.

Yer right about the deer's leap, could McGuiness do it do you reckon, I can do it on a super bike, but thats on a PS2 game TT Superstars most times I end up with gravel rash.

From Glengormly originally but live in England now. Always try and make it though for the NW200 and the Ulster.

I prefer the racing round Dundrod than NW200. Got over for the NW200 last year but the loss of Robert was a tradgedy.

What you all riding, got a Honda CBF1000GT now but just sold my Fazer 600 cracking little bike.

Stay safe

Greetings all Lew

don't you worry - soon as I pass my DAS me and the OH will be taking the ferry back home for once just to see my family's faces

Am hoping to get it before May to do the NW200, but if not may do the UGP instead. It was good craic last time I went as a teen (my dad dragged me along and then I realised it was so he could steal my complimentary passes for the beer tent!)

I love that game! Just got the latest version - called Legends, which has older bikes too.

I'd love to see how Rossi, Stoner & some of the top circuit guys would react when introduced to NW or UGP!!

Theres a topic to start....

I ride a 3HE FZR600 Genesis, daily rider, which I love to bits. Its in middle of a repair / upgrade at the min.

Will list pics when i get the chance.

Know Glengormley well, worked in Mallusk for over 10 years. Many a kebab I had out of Pappa's!! :)

Its a real pity that the UGP is struggling so much, its such an amazing event and would be a real loss if it faded like so many other road races have.

Dunno how familiar you are, but the old version of the circuit they used was even more insane, espec the section round the 7 Mile Straight area.

Well I'm sure you guys know that the NW200 is all about the money, its became too comercialised! when you have a look about during race week, alot of people are just there to drink and cause trouble and make a mess! I was camping near Mathers Cross about 6 or 7 years ago and it was brilliant. There was barrels and a big stack of fire wood you could have your own camp fires, you could drink and everyone had a great laugh.

Last time I was up there arent any fires, you cant bring your own drink unless you buy it from the beer tent. I was told I wasnt allowed glass bottles in but when you went to the beer tent they were selling glass bottles of Stella and WKD. And the lads running security were complete dicks! Local gangsters probably! They threatened to remove us from the site because we lit our bbq and there was a few flames. My dad protested and ended up getting grabbed by the throat by one of the 'security' needless to say we told them to f##k away off!

I still go up but I much prefere hanging my head out of the bushes just past the exit of the hairpin at the Ulster! If they get rid off the UGP it will not be due to 'safety' issues, it will be because its not generating the sponsors and local government enough cash!!

long live the UGP!

The biggest problem with Dundrod is actually were it is, If there was a Portrush within a mile they would not be struggling and let's face it the weather this past two years has been killing it.

More power to there elbow to the folk who work so hard to get the event ready. It must be heart breaking to put all that effort in just to have the weather spoil it.

I certainly would never blame the competitors for calling the meet off as safety is always paramount.

Last time I was over for the Ulster was 2007 and that was a wet meet on the Saturday, we had a delayed start and I think we lost the last two races due to standing water on the course, but it was still a great day.

I am looking forward to this years event and surely we will get a dry week.

AHA!! We found the perfect person to pressurise for more funding then!! :D

I'm sure he meant no disrespect or offence.

It is a pity it doesnt attract more sponsors, will be even tougher after last year & in the current economic sh*tpile.

Hopefully it'll still be around for years to come, I'm looking forward to taking my sons to the racing like my dad took me.

Still have happy memories of Robert Dunlop coming thru Quarries on the Norton, flames pumping out of the pipe!!

Or James Whitham (he was Jamie in those days) binning his Durex Suzuki (insert your own joke here...) into a grass bank in similar area!

Oh, i'm getting old.......

No offense meant or taken. They're not bikers at all and hate the idea of me riding, hence why I only started it now that I've got the Irish Sea between us.

My dad took me to the UGP but he was there for the hospitality whilst I watched the racing (and loved the classic bikes going round). My bro was saying a week or so ago that he was representing the council at some bikingrelated event, but no idea what it was.

I'll have to ask him to tell me what's the score on the council's sponsorship - at the end of the day, I presume the council are aware that it brings people (and money!) to the area and that has to be supported.

Remeber the Regal sponsored races that used to be held?? Why is it they pulled out of sponsorship? Is it because its a tobacco company? and if so then what are the reasons, its still allowed on formula 1 cars and moto gp etc...
