Hi All

New here. :D

I had my DT stolen from my garden a few days ago and it was recovered today.

It now has no headlight fairing, petrol tank cap, mirrors, number plate or working key barrel, stupid little thugs. . They have cut the 6 wires leading from the key barrel as well as smashed the key slot with probably a hammer and screw driver. Also took the time to whack the petrol tank many times so it now has mucho paint missing. The bike starts up from the kick start but none of the lights are working. Is it really so easy to start the DT engine just by cutting those wires?

I believe my DT to be a 1990 or 1991 model (first registered in 1991). Which model of keybarrel would i need to buy? I have looked at various websites and there seems to be many models for DT125's.

KIndest Regards

Lee.

yes, if u want something really scary, on most 50's there is a little white box and not directly done wires, all u have to do is unclip the white box, which on crossers takes less than 10 seconds if its in an aqward place. square the bike up, kick the bars extremely hard to the steering lock brakes. kick the bike up (or if its electric start bumping it is easy enough). and u can ride away as long as there is no disk locks etc. it really is as easy as that.

heh, just read my post...sounds like i achully 'steal' bikes. i dont, but i like to know how its done so i can make a way to prevent it from happening. just leaving ur bike with a steering lock will stop no one. u need at bare minimal a disk lock, i use 2.

on the dtrs mate all the ignition barrels are the same and so is the tzr 250

also what i cant understand is why do they damage it so much cause on your dt there is a black and white wire behind the head light and if u are good u can hook it from behind by the yolk then cut that one wire and hey presto why i do on all bikes i had is put a switch under neath the tank just in reaching distance to immobilise

Like the MozzMan said.....

A hidden inline switch under the tank is another good way to slow down those thievin' bastards

BTW.... :hi to the Forum Crestfallen

Sorry to hear about your DT :(

The best of luck with getting it back on the road

Hi again

I've just finished cleaning the DT as it had 2 inches of dry mud all over it. I always have to have clean bikes. 8)

FAO Mozzy/ DT peeps, would this ignition barrel work?

http://www.te-motorcyclespares.co.uk/produ...productID=13293

It says it's for a TZR125 but it looks identical to my damaged DT one, even has the 5 wire plug and 6th loose cable.

Lee.

so i am told the tzr 125 one has a different distance between the holes but as long as it gets one bolt in and the steering lock fits then go for it

otherwise tzr 250 will fit to

Hi All

I got the key barrel and fitted it. It was the one in the photo i listed above, marked as being for the TZR125. The colours of the wires match exactly, just plugged in the 5 pin block connector and the single 6th wire. I turned on the ignition and failed to hear the servo motor for the powervalve make it's little noise and the idiot lights/ indicators are not working.

They do work however when the engine is running, the neutral light and inidicators work although only when reviing the engine above 5000rpm.

Can i assume my battery is flat as bike has been run without ignition being on etc, ie taking battery out of loop and it not being topped up etc?

Also, the headlight and rear light have only ever worked when the engine is running, although indicators and idiot lights have always worked simply by turning the ignition on.

Is this normal.

TIA

well my m8s moped does the exact same thing. my crosser on the other hand only works with ignition on, otherwise nothing works. so it must be down to design, ie if ut engine breaks in the middle of the night u can still put indicators on so cars know that ur there, also it may be because front and rear lights use more battery power than the indicators and idiot lights, so it might b a battery power conserving thing to... :)

on my first dtr i had that that problem it was the charging stator coil but i just left it and charged the battery once a week

It is for some both used to work that way

On the other hand.....my current XJ750 has a different circuit, where the lights come on with the ignition switch :dunno
