  1. +1 on that idea. Could maybe go a stage further and add a how to section under the various bike types... but that might be a stage too far?
  2. Wired it all up as per instructions and another fuse blown, not sure if this is going to work
  3. I'm baffled now... Wired up as per instructions and the following happens: Power in and out of switch regardless of it being in the on or off position. Power goes from +ive battery to fuse and in to relay, but no power seems to be coming out of the relay. Connecting the lights directly to the battery and they work. Can you blow a relay? Does the fact that the switch always appears to have power (when the ignition is on) a concern?
  4. I assume that means connect the red wire from the switch to a +ive that is only live when the ignition is on? I am pretty sure that this is exactly what I had tried. Yikes this seems like a lot of effort for what I need. Do you think I need to make use of the lighting circuit or should any +ive that is live only when the ignition is on should work? Thanks again guys.
  5. The spot lights each have 2 connections, so positive and negative to each, that part I understand. The relay is all part of the harness, but I will check the instructions again. I'm pretty sure I had done what it says as it seemed very clear, 1 wire to positive and 3 to negative. WIRING CONNECTIONS FROM PLUG: • White wire with in line fuse and ring terminal to 12 volt power (battery +) • Black wires with ring terminal to ground (battery –) • Group of four wires (encased in plastic wire loom), route to driving lights — one white and one black to each light. FROM SWITCH: • Single red wire to source of switched 12 volt power (on with ignition switch) But perhaps I missed something so I will check again tonight. The harness is: Kuryakyn Universal Wiring and Relay Kit

    Summer?

I had some doll come up to me in work today asking why a bike needs to take up a full car space...... I polity informed here that another bike could easily park beside me as I kept well to one side, not to mention if the car park was really full that a 3rd and maybe even a 4th bike could park behind. Seems like when I bring the bike in, for some reason I have to give up my car parking space????? Madness!!!!!
  7. Hi all, I tried wiring up my spot lights using a wiring harness last night. I connected the relevant wires to: A) Relay Harness Negative wire to Negative battery terminal. Fused positive wire from relay harness to the Positive battery terminal. C) Relevant wires from relay harness to the spot lights. D) Positive Switch Wire to a positive connection that is only on when the ignition is on. The problem is, when I flip the switch the fuse (15A) just blows. When I wire the spot lights directly to the battery then they work (although this would of course mean that they could never be turned off thus killing the battery). Does anyone have any thoughts as to what I've done wrong? Thanks, Andrew.
  8. lol, yes I mean Panniers, you'd think I'd know that considering how much I've spent on the whole thing lol. Just to clarify, I am keeping the stock indicators and adding the LED indicators in the panniers (as these are removable, wiring also will be removable via some kind of plug). So these indicators used together, shouldn't be a problem? Thanks, for the response by the way, most helpful.
  9. Hi all, Quick question... I have added hard saddle bags to the bike which have built in LED indicators. I had thought that I could wire them up to the original stock indicators. In terms of electrical wiring... is this possible and or recommended? Potential benefits: Should be simple to wire up? Don't need to tap in to any wires? Potential Problems: Will this them dim the brightness of the indicators if they are sharing the same circuit? Could this overload the indicator relay? Will this cause an increased draw of current through the existing wiring, and will this wiring be able to cope we increased load? Any other potential problems? Thanks, Andrew.
  10. Just be aware that most companies only allow you to maintain your NCD without active insurance for a set period of time, some 1 year, some 2 and I believe some even up to 7 (I think). So if you don't manage to get insured on another car, then be wary of your options if later you decide to buy another car. Also is there any rules about the same vehicle having more than one main policy holder linked to it? Or are you thinking of being a named driver on your partners?
  11. Hi all, Would anyone have any suggestions of what type of wiring I should be using for wiring in the following: 12v cigarette socket - which will be used to charge things like a phone etc. autocom power supply additional indicators (part of the saddle bags and need to be removable, so some kind of connecter will be required) CB power supply I already have the sat nav wired up but it obviously runs to the front of the bike (would be hard to see the screen if it was behind me lol) The aim is to run the wiring from under the seat (obviously) to the Trunk and Saddlebags (indicators only). I will also have to add fuses along the way (close to the battery) maybe even some kind of relay to run everything off? I would also like to add a switch or 2 to the handlebars, but I'm having trouble finding something suitable, any recommendations greatly received? Thanks, Andrew.
  12. Can you go any higher in the revs before changing gears? Might be able to get yourself up to speed a bit quicker? Did you do it in the wet which may have hindered your confidence? I guess practice is the answer unless you can hire another bike?
  13. I have the lady friends number in my phone as ICE, had to explain to her why her name had ICE in front of it lol.
  14. As far as I can remember, it is ok to cover the bike in the stuff, probably best to avoid the brakes and tires etc lol.
  15. Called into a dealer near work and he was able to order them in no probs. Same part numbers too. Note to self, don't over tighten replacement parts...
  16. Does anyone know where you would get replacement parts for an XVS 950A, can you simply call Yamaha or a dealer with part numbers? I am looking for: 90176-06041-00 = a wee nut crown 5S7-2787A-00-00 = a bracket I am not sure though if the part numbers are the same here in the UK as they are in the US. Thanks, Andrew.
  17. Is that ok, won't be any problem with electrics running in from the top and rain water? I had thought about that, but was concerned with the above.
  18. lol, I had to read that a couple of times to work out what you meant. Just thinking...... I might prefer to have a flag with little horses, will be a bit different than the hand, although that will probably open another can of worms determining the official flag for Northern Ireland.
  19. I remember the first time I scrapped the floorboards, nearly crapped myself lol. Thanks for the advice as it han't crossed my mind yet. The clamps for the spots aren't big enough to go on the forks. Once I fit the Batwing fairing I will be able to see what room there is on the front, see what options there are. Alternatively I might have a look for other clamps.
  20. Exactly, mainly for cruising on longer journeys.
  21. You were right Bulldog2, I set up the 4 arm and I wasn't happy that it wasn't going to rest on the engine etc, so I took half of it off (making it a 2 arm) and I was much happier. As you say it appears to be solid as a rock.
  22. Another weekend, and some more progress made. Was a lot of effort to get the bolts out from the floorboards in order to attach the highway bar, but got there in the end. However I did manage to brake the bolt that attaches the right floorboard, so I will now need to aquire a new bracket as it is the part that has 3 screws attached to it. (Shown at the top of the first picture, which is of the left floorboard). Bracket Image Highway Bars (Rear View) Highway Bars (Front View) Spot Lamps 1 Spot Lamps 2 I don't like the positioning of the spot lights so need to try somewhere else. Due to the shape of the highway bars, this is proving difficult. I've made a start on attaching the saddle bags to the ghost brackets, hopefully get it fininshed some time this week (if time allows).
  23. Oh dear, I hope I haven't started something here...
  24. Good stuff. I have confirmed shipping costs with a guy in the states I used and I'm about to place my order for a new seat too
