  1. Looking for some advice on how to painy a motorcycel engine/gearbox. Its for my MotoGuzzi, and its an aluminium engine that has been soda blasted. looking to paint it silver, with ether gold or black barrels ? Any advice? Thanks, Matt
  2. Well, was away at the weekend with my local bike club, Moray Coast Motorcycle Club - and had a really good time! we stayed in one of the three lodges at the Rothiemurcos Lodge, http://www.rothiemurchus.co.uk/ Location - about 7 miles out of Aviemore, About 15 quid for a taxi into aviemore and right next to all the outdoor stuff. The track to get up to the lodge, about 2 miles, is a really rough dirt track with loadsa pot holes, we all had cars and had to take it pretty slow but one of the guys had his zx6r and never found it a problem as he could just ride round them. Facilities - we stayed in the Nuffield lodge, but there info is here for the other two aswess, and this is taken from their website - The Union Jack Lodge - this is ideal for large or small groups and consists mainly of bunkhouse accommodation. It is on two floors with the upper floor having 6 four berth rooms, 2 six berth rooms and 1 two berth room. The ground floor has 8 four berth rooms. Each floor has its own lounge, dining room, kitchen, showers and toilets. New Nuffield Lodge - this is ideal for small or medium groups and, to a lesser extent, families. It consists mainly of bunkhouse accommodation and has 1 six berth room, 2 two berth rooms, 2 four berth rooms and 1 twin room. It has separate ladies and gents showers and toilets, sauna, lounge/dining room and fully equipped kitchen. Old Nuffield Lodge - this is ideal for couples and families as it has en-suite facilities and rooms can be configured into double or single beds depending on requirement. There are four en-suite units, one sleeping 5, two sleeping 4 and one twin. It has a fully equipped kitchen and lounge/dining area. and for the lodges in general - Self-catering accommodation for 102 guests - ideal for groups. All rooms are centrally heated and double-glazed. Some have en-suite facilities. Large fully equipped kitchens with fridge, freezer, micro wave ovens, crockery and cutlery. The Union Jack Lodge has industrial dishwashers. Washing and Drying facilities. Linen and towels can be provided at an extra charge. TVs in each of the four lounges as well as in en-suite rooms. There was about 20 of us and we were £30 for two nights, arriving 3pm on the friday and leaving mid day on the sunday. Massive TV in our lounge with a dvd player and freeview etc, with a USB input so we were able to watch films of some of our hardrives/USB pens. There was also a bar fully stocked with spirit, and our kitchen had 2 massive fridges to stock up all our beer we took with us. Overall i would highly recommend it. was a magic weekend, and as it is provate land im sure if you asked nicely there would be no problem with greenlaning on the tracks/roads. Any questions or anything you think i missed out/should have mentioned let me know Matt
  3. this sounds like magic fun - of theres a get together i would also be keen to go!
  4. decdied just to keep my FZ6 untill my age isnt as big a problem! its up in Aug, so will be giving you a phone around then, or when i get ym renewal in
  5. If you get up as far as the highlands i would be keen to tag along for a bit of a ride
  6. if anyone wants the game on xbox 360 i have finished it - will sell it for 20 quid plus postage - have an xbox aswell if anyones interested, its taking up room on my desk that could be used for cleaning bike bits....
  7. being 20 sucks. test rode a new z1000sx yesterday, beautiful bike and loads of power (i want to upgrade from my FZ6) but the cheapest insurance i can find is £3300! will have 5 years no claims come August, and will be 21 - not that that is going to be much of a help! anyone think of any similar bikes that are in lower insurance groups? Lee, might be phoning you tomorrow! haha Matt
  8. Aberdeen but woulnt be fussed traveling! been discussing it with the old man last night and i think he was actually wanting to build a different one from me! have a build of kinda thing. so i'll pass no the info to him and see what he says. As for the one in the pic, i only recently found it but i fell in love! just the way it looks so old, yet tastefull and as you said the litte details like the con rods for the foot pegs so on so on. As for my build, will need to see how dad feels about my using one of his old frames to make more of a board track styled bike.. Thinking along the lines of one of our 52 james comet frames, bsa c15 or b40 engine, and take it from there. fab up a tank and see how i get on. kinda toying with the "Steampunk" kinda design, incorporating copper pipe for the fuel lines, oil returns, using brass fittings where i can, will get some plans on the go!
  9. Rideable would be a must. By that i mean something that is not 14ft long and that you have to have 2 meter long arms to get a hold of the bars. I think it would deffo be worth getting an old bike to start with, that would be the easy way forward. Yeah, that would make life a bit easier for me! i'll see whats kicking about and do some draughting... Cheers!
  10. so i could get a frame, change it (or get a engineering company, such as http://www.chopperz.co.uk/ in perthshire, scotland to do it) and as long as it retains the frame number and is structurally sound it would be fine?
  11. well plan is to spend as little money as possible. this is what we are drawing our inspiration from.... dirty, grubby, old and made of a bit of everyhing. we have a few frames, but nothing we would chop. would be looking at getting a frame and front end from the breakers, then working from there. also check this out...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8T9XvqmwPAA and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P28TfrxYezU nice..... opinions?
  12. anyone ever built a motorcycle? ether putting another engine into a frame not built for that engine, or built a custom frame? me and my old man are toying with the idea but cant make heads or tales of the govs' Motorcycle Single Vehicle Approval (MSVA) notes. Anyone got any advice? if we were going for a custom frame it would be done by an engineering company, probs someone specialising in custom frames - not really the kind of thing you want shabby welds on so on so on. Thanks, Matt
  13. Any one got any ideas? went into my local dealer but they said that its to old now to get one form yamaha (2010 model) powerbronze has one but its nae the nicest looking one, and its not a colour one like the genuine accessory would be :/ really want one .... Thanks, Matt
  14. Only reason i have left them out was cos it sounded less raspy, as for the engine damamge - it has a power commander 3, if i was going to keep them out i would get it re mapped.
  15. been pulled before on my sv, the SV has a IXIL race can on it, straight through with "not for road use" on it - the bobby just looked at it and laughed. its the same one i had on for my MOT
  16. Was giving my bike a good clean yesterday and took the baffles out the exhaust to polish the tip... its my FZ6, and it has LeoVince Evo II Slip-ons on sound reallly nice without the baffles, not quite as loud as my SV at low revs but screams when neering the redline. Whats the legality of this? tempted to leave them out... Cheers Matt
  17. As some of you may know before i got my FZ6 i had a SV650... well i still have it and she now runs beutifully. my old man was asking if i was going to insure it this year as he was wanting to use it now and again when eh fancied a change from his st1300. Would he be able to take out a insurance policy in his name, just for him, even though im the registered keeper of the bike? Fankkks
  18. shouldnt have to, for indicators/number plate ligh you should be able to follow the cables up to where they are plugged in in the tail. unplug, put through to the tailtidy then re plug in. noticed on my new yammy that the inicators have plugges right there so you might just be able to unplug them at the indicators. but why fix it if its not broken
  19. aye, i enjoyed a good moan about it aswell - put alot of bikes i was looking out in the "out of the question" book. thankfully i managed to get my FZ6's insurance down to just over 300 quid if i remember right, thats me being 20 with 4 years no claims. should have asked your insuranve what security items e.g. chains, disk locks make a difference with your price - the often save more than it costs to buy them.
  20. Welcome to the forum. I might be wrong but i would say you would have to change them to ether clear, with orange bulbs or orange with clear bulbs. If you do pick it up in the van, make sure you put it into 1st, cable tie the frint brake on and have it tied up very very securely - would be a shame to see her get scratched. Like you i also like the old british bikes. What kinda bantam did you have? i have the 175cc, also have a B40. Formally my old mans bikes. we also have a Winged wheel, and a couple of famous james' that will be restored soon. As for the big brits, he used to have a triumph trident T150V. think they are gettting harder to find now, was a lovely bike.
  21. yeah there stuff is pretty decent. i got a advanced set of 1/2"ers for ma 18th and a set of screwdrivers - nae to shabby, wrecked a few screwdrivers so far but all their advanced stuff has a lifetime warrenty
