  1. its the only way i can find out.. you need all bulbs connected to get atrue reading... will start with no lights just idiot lights as thats all that would work in position 1 anyway... its somehwere to start and if a short run wont harm the battery...
  2. hhmm interestin... i read the thread and sounds remarkably familir... maybe i should connect new batter and put all bulbs in and see what happens... just dont wanna fry everything again but if meter readings prove too high voltage i can knock it off... musgt admit its a dodgy system when if one bulb goes it increses voltage to others... still will give ago and see what happens
  3. ok basically when th eengine is running the voltage reaching the battery and the rest of the electrics is erratic and between 6 and 11v.. neesless to say as soon as i put a bulb in no matter where it is the bulb blows... the old battery was totally knackered but i dare not connect th enew in case the problem causes that battery to boil too.. I have just checked the engine number and it matches the frame number so its original.. the wiring from the generator matches colour to colour at the multiplug...where it goes from there i havent checked as its bloody freezing in my yard
  4. Jim the bike i am on about is the RS125DX... I do have an RXS too but that one is perfect
  5. thanks for all the help guys... its very much appreciated
  6. try this page as theres a few on here http://shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?_nkw=yamaha+dt125lc+tank&_sacat=0&_dmpt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&_odkw=yamaha+dt125lc&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313
  7. haha those are my crocs lol... needless to say i dont use em to ride lol
  8. with red on the male connector i get a reading...with red on the female connector i get no reading
  9. i got no reading at all using the Ohms... when i used the diode setting i got a reading one way but not the other
  10. yeah i do have a multi meter...
  11. the wires are red and white mate and the rectifier does have male and female connectors but the harness has bene butchered so i have no idea if the previous owner wired the rectifier up right or not as its hard wired into the harness...
  12. nothing at all mate just the code number and 300V on it...
  13. right i see what you mean.. so basically it will work or it wont... and if it doesnt swap the wires around
  14. sound slike the battery is not strong enough to engage the starter... have you tried bump startin it?... sure fire way of finding out mate...or you could try a booster on the battery
  15. My new one arrived today and it looks nothing like the old one so it must be a newer type... anyway as i am not exactly sure of the wiring what would happen if i wired it the wrong way?... its only got 2 pins on it so its 50 50 if i get it right or wrong
  16. Nev cheers and i cleaned the "ramps" and all surrounding parts to get rid of as much of the manky grease as possible... they seem to rattle about in there now so should be ok...
  17. I tried the same with 2 of my old bikes... Yamaha RS100 reg TLA 537R and a Kawasaki KH125 OTN 890R but neither of them have been taxed since the early 80s
  18. firstly was there enough coolant in it?... dunno if they have an electric fan to assist cooling but if they do check to make sure its working... there may well be a thermosensor in the rad or water jacket somewhere to activate the lecky fan ( if it has one)
  19. Was out on Saturday at the local bike mecca and Sunday went to the beach for a bimble about.. weather was roasting yesterday
  20. well they dont directly drive the belt.. to be honest i am not exactly sure how they work but the scoot was still riding fine even with all that crap on em... however i wont be greasing up the new ones when they arrive i dont think...
  21. haha yeah i know i am used to the scoot which doesnt use a choke Stupid thing was as i was tryin to start her i was wondering why she wouldnt fire up then it dawned on me haha.. she is mega smokey though when you give her a bit of welly... dunno if the oil pump needs setting or theres tons of crap in the exhaust.. I had an RS100 back in 82 and she had a single round clock.. i also have an RS125 which has dual round clocks but she needs loads of work..All i need for the RXS is fork seals done and she is ready for an MOT.. never done em before so kinda dreading it
  22. Well i have been whizzing about on a scooter while waiting to find a decent bike.. The bike is nearly finished but i am changing the clutch rollers on the scoot as the old ones were knackered.. My question is when i took the old ones out they were covered in grease.. Are they supposed to be greasey or should they be bone dry??.. i will add the grease looked pretty manky so it may not have been put there deliberately.. Any ideas fellas?
  23. Well i did a short video of her and how she stands at the minute... erm please excuse the fact i forgot to pull the choke out when starting her initially <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/VdumyiaLbug" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
