  1. Thanks for your inputs everybody, I guess I need to find some new SUITABLE coils.... Does anyone know which ones I could use? Without going to wemoto and spending £30 per coil. Thanks, Joel
  2. It's ok, at least your offering advice! I just cant think of a logical way around using a coil with only one hook-up without using more relays (which I certainly wont be)
  3. A coils ground is the spark plug though isnt it? My old coils has two wires in, one for the condensor and one for the points.
  4. It was ones of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/YAMAHA-XS400-XS-400-1978-1985-IGNITION-COIL-210-/180412282181?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item2a0168f545
  5. I think I'd rather stay at home smashing my nads with a meat tenderizer than ride that anywhere! (unless they make some rule whereby it's legal to ride hideously drunk)
  6. How on earth does he manage this? Oil? Tyre Black? Ice? or just the worst luck I have ever seen?
  7. I just can't take this seriously! <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9zNUPDmnz4?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9zNUPDmnz4?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9zNUPDmnz4?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
  8. Howdy, So today I've started to think about making my custom loom up, only to discover that my coils only have one wire going into them.... Normally there is two. What does this mean? Are they completely unusable or is there a way around this?
  9. Ahh thank you very much saltus! Much appreciated!

    XS250 Carbs

Okie doak, I just thought I would ask as they are £9 each and its a bit of a waste of time if they don't fit. =( I might just see how the standard ones are, maybe the vibration of the engine will help them rattle down and let fuel into the bowls.

    XS250 Carbs

basically the float valves are the bits I am looking to buy. The XS250 ones are a bit hesitant to let fuel in but the XS400 ones have a nice little hook on to directly attach the float to the valve.

    XS250 Carbs

A simple one this time.....Are the XS250 carb's the same as the XS400, only different jetting? Just I need some parts for mine (not jet related) and was wondering if I can order 'XS400' stuff as I can't find XS250 stuff.
  13. Ok, Ill try this, hopefully it will give me an answer. If not I'll let you know, motorcycle wiring is a joke compared to cars =P
  14. Howdy, I used to work for Renault F1 until the end of August and then I left to finish my studies. Yeah the V10 was certainly the nicer sounding of the two.
  15. Just a quick post to say hello to everyone on here! My names Joel, I'm 21 and I am from Oxford. My main ride is a Triumph Daytona 955i 99' but I am currently building a custom Yamaha cafe racer. I have joined the forums just to see what other people are up to, in terms of bikes that is. I have some cool ideas of customs I would like to build around Yamaha's and over time I hope to hear some opinions. Just a bit of background info, I worked in F1 for 5 years and I am about to start studying physics at university. Best regards to everyone, Joel
  16. hmm this is very confusing, sorry to be a pain but that doesn't make too much sense to me? There are 4 whites, one of which is not used (how on earth do I find the centre one?) and secondly there are only two other wires (Green and Brown) do I use these how you said?
  17. Hi there Newt, This sounds like a familiar problem to me, Did you buy aftermarket or genuine ones from the bay? and certainly don't put the oil seal in without the retaining clip, I have done this before and by the time you notice its pushed out, you have no brakes and your front tyre is soaked in oil =( I recommend measuring the original seals and then just google for a seals company (this is what I always do now, its much cheaper too!) find a company and then call them as so make sure they are intended for use as you want to use them. Then order away! (I doubt you will spend more than £15)
  18. White smoke generally means metal-on-metal with high friction, I am not familiar with a GT80 but I did a quick google to discover its 2-stroke (hopefully google hasn't let me down again) I'm guessing perhaps not enough oil in the fuel mixture or some internal damage to bearings?
  19. Thanks drewp! I have a haynes book of lies and it was just that it shows 4 white wires coming from the alternator and then a black and a green coming from the inner coil. So what I have realised from the book is that one of the white wires is not used (not know which one, does it matter?)? the other 3 go to the rectifier and then straight on to the battery. As for the two coming from the inner coil (Green and black I think) I think that the black goes to ground and the green goes to the regulator and then on to all the electrical components other than the starter motor. Does this sound about right to you? Regards, Joel
  20. Hello all, Just needing a bit of help, I am making a super simple custom loom for my XS250 and I was just trying to work out what the wires coming out of the stator do. There are 4 coming off of the outer coils and 2 coming off of the inner. Would anyone mind explaining what all of these do? Regards, Joel
