  1. I also use the BBQ paint on my exhausts......but VHT case paint works excellent on motor pieces.
  2. Not a bad idea there Max My 550 speedo went tits-up a few years ago ..... But my 600's doesn't read correctly either due to the 17" Excels..... So your sticker trick sounds like something I could do as a temporary fix.......until I can afford to get it re-calibrated.
  3. Nice DT & SR there Russ!
  4. Indeed! HIPPY BARFDAY to our resident forum Enforcer!
  5. Yep.....they don't call it To Kill Ya for nothing ya know.
  6. to the forum Tyler Make sure all your connections are clean & tight......but it sounds like it could be a starter relay that's gone south on ya.
  7. Like most XT's.......they like to be ridden Regularly...... The starting ritual just comes by 2nd nature after a bit.
  8. Seems we have a new resident TDR spares broker.
  9. to the forum Richie Nice Maxim! I used to have an '83 750 Maxim.......1 of thee most trouble-free Yamaha's I've ever owned.
  10. to the forum XJxxx Looks to be mostly cosmetic damage...... Only need a headlight & blinkers up front to make it legally rideable (temporarily of course) Ebay might be a good place to start sourcing the fairing & such..... & a good fiberglass repair kit could come in handy as well.

    Moto GP today

3 Yamaha's in the top 4 positions.......Sweet! Anybody see the 250 race? Was a real cracker!
  12. Starter Circuit Cut-Off Relay it sounds like to me...... Had this issue with my old XJ550.....was able to cure the prob affordably, by removing the relay & running a jumper wire across the connector, hence completing the circuit. HTH

    fuel tap

The fuel tap itself might need to be dis-assembled & cleaned.....sometimes the gasket in there turns brittle & develops leaks.....worth a look anyway.
  14. I've had good results from these as well....
  15. to the forum Could be a head gasket that's gone south.......or your valve guides have seen better days......would be my 1st assumption. Either way, it sounds like a top-end refresh could do wonders.....not too difficult really.....as long as you're familiar with a wrench & have a decent manual.....it should be a reasonably affordable fix.
  16. NumbSkull using his SuSucki for what it's best suited for!
  17. XT...TTR....Bottom line is: 1-Lunger YamaThumps (No matter what size) are BulletProof! .....
  18. Which end of the pipe? If it's the header end.....could be a a leaky valve cover that's dripping down onto the header itself. If it's the muffler end....could be some serious internal motor probs then....like rings or valve guides or Both. For your sake....I hope it's not the later of the 2.
  19. Looks like a good plan of attack there Drewps Stirs up some good old memories for me as I used to go see Flat-Track racing every Friday night as a kid..... Cryin' shame, as that track has now become yet another apartment complex.
  20. A Tenere' would be a good choice WF Touring on an XT is great fun..... Go Anywhere....Anytime......Affordably
  21. Shouldn't be a prob......just make sure they're balanced properly. Nice choice of rubber BTW......ran those on my 750 Maxim with great results.
  22. Ya mean this magnet piece?.... A.K.A. Pick-up coil assembly. Couldn't find the rear tail-section, but the front cowling can also be found HERE BTW..... to the forum
