  1. Why fake, wouldn't it be a training school, bike has outriggers (training wheels) the way it bobs left and right until stop and stays upright. Seems he leaned too much and the outrigger maybe lifted the rear wheel a tad or something to that effect.

  4. I fully agree and concur and no argument here so it's almost unanimous then. I was going to scan a page of the magazine where I got the idea, but turns out I don't even have to do that. How not to make it there and back if you inflate your tires this way. Six tips for survival: How to make it there, and back again • Make sure everything is lubed and tight. • Check all suspension bushings and wheel and steering bearings. • Never leave on a trip with worn tires. If you think you will need them before you return, replace them before you leave. • Carry plenty of spare parts. For this trip I carried spare brake and clutch levers, fuses, electrical tape, a spare voltage regulator rectifier, fork seals, brake pads, throttle, clutch and rear brake cables, bulbs, lenses, spare inner tubes, tire tools and some RTV silicone. • Be able to fix a flat tire. I carry a hose that screws in place of a spark plug so I can use my engine as an air compressor if I get a flat tire. • The back roads are scenic, but lack gas stations. It doesn’t matter if you just filled up 30 miles ago, if you see another gas station, fill up again. This list includes some good and many obvious, but seems lacking for 3 weeks of riding.

Do you understand the 4 cycle engine>? 4-stroke animated As to "where the basic parts are", how basic? There are parts websites w/exploded views of the different assembly areas of a bike, but do you mean more basic? Here are a couple of recommended books. For carbs e-monkey mentioned Mike's XS for fit on same carbs (even if website mostly for the XS650). Drewpy has mentined Sirius Consolidated Inc. which is great, decent prices, the carb flange should show here. also another one. Plenty of parts sites will show the blow-up view which always helps to see entire assembly of what goes where. I like this one for that: Kahuna because it opens the Blow-up view in seperate window by clicking 'Large Image', then can print out also if necessary. One thread in YOC mentions 'cheapest gasket set' Parts'n'More More parts . . . Motogrid NW Vntage Old Barn . . . . .and the list goes on. Also highly recommended to have part # handy when going to dealership.   8. Has anyone here tried that, done that, "manufactured" it? Maybe HoughMade? Are we bordering on eccentricity? Is this a sound or safe idea even for a roadside emergency?

  10. Here is a link not for the faint-of heart, really downright DISheartening unless your heart is in it. For the $600 you might have found something 3 times better and prob at least 1/3 the work. But that is the fun of it (if your heart is in it), and In this link the first response, 'macmac' is informative yet still,, , The work is half the fun and will make it all the more rewarding for yourself. And when you break down sometime you'll know what to do, like McGruber, er McGyver.   11. This is true, since mine failed on simple continuity test with no current in EITHER direction. But good luck on the real problem.
  12. Noviced newb here , my "member" status should read "pre-ignition", I posted that random test link and it is not model specific or anything so figure manual might be more trustworthy. I'll lay low and just listen for now.
  13. Nice mod they've done. I threw away my rectifier after testing, don't rem. if it was Hitachi (probably). But you say tested at 2 wires?? Rectifier should be 4.   14. Dug these old cards up that I used to get in the mail early 90's like a subscription, unfortunatly only have so many Yamaha's cuz stopped w/ getting them after a year. Included here are all 70's Yams I have. And a couple of the "late model" faves (FZX). Missing the one for my bike Thought I'd start to digitize them; not great w/ pic editing software as evidenced. Also hope no infring. problem here esp. since such a shoddy job of it. Also included a British curiosity - have a load of brit-bikes, from AJS to Zenith, but . . .this IS a Yamaha club. (also note: speaking of shabby work I've noticed on some cards they'd have specs for completely diff bike or similar error, not sure if any inaccuracies with these. Might finish scanning the rest of Yamas another day.

  21. On this topic I'm curious as very best method myself. In "Gas Tank Rust Cleaning" thread, am only left confused. For my torn up seat, after reading in Mar/Apr. issue of Motorcycle Classics mag, - 'Seat covering 101' was going to order new DIY seat cover from site they endorsed (saddlemendotcom) but my AV software wouldn't let me go there (no surprise)

Google search Yamaha G7S, then IMAGE search same, click picture I found shown above, found it on 1st page of image results. Join that forum and maybe that owner can help you out in a big way. Then: sell your scoot to my sis Search and you shall find.
