  1. Gap o.k? oiled? c'mon james help us out here mate
  2. I reckon if you hang on for oldgitonabike to come on, he'll more than likely be able to help you, he'll have some shoes he's kept back from the late 70's, do just the job.
  3. Aye I've found that a grinderette with either a wire cup brush or wire wheel is a bit harsh on ally, but a wire cup or wheel on an electric drill can be a little more forgiving, was o.k doing my carb, and brings up an ally DEP pipe up a treat too.
  4. I certainly hope not, I ended up buying the bike off him.
  5. If it's not the clutch, as OG suggested, have a butchers at the powervalve, see if its catching, my mates was making that sort of noise, after he'd messed about, trying to set his manual powervalve.

    new sport?

And there was me thinking Ashbourne football was crazy.
  7. Looking nice and shiny Phil, is that wire brush and elbow grease mate? or have you sprayed it with something as well? cos try as I do, I keep getting the clean but slightly tarnished look, for my engine. Keep us posted on how you get on with those aluminium filler rods btw, I've a couple of things I can put them to good use, oh and keep an eye out for that ball bearing that goes on the push rod for your clutch, their a bugger to find if you lose it,
  8. Cheers, and ta for the link DDT, looks like a trip to post office and pick up a V62 form then, Apologies for hijacking your thread BEng.
  9. Nurse!!! nurse!!! BWJ's out of bed again, and now he's started talking funny!!!! Hi Desmo, welcome mate.I've a cat called Desmoducci btw
  10. Hi BEng, and welcome to the forum, a cracking intro, if I may say so. I'm intrigued by this part mind. "I brought my DT125R as a field bike, in not a very good state, but it ran and it was ok for the field. Then one day whilst working on the bike i noticed it had frame number, which most field bike don’t have because their nicked. Anyway I contact DVLA and got the V5 so decided to but the bike on the road," Did you just send off for your v5, by just putting in your vin/frame number, and no regestration number?? as I'm in the same boat, having an old 82 xt 125 with just engine and frame number. I've contacted both Swansea, who passed me on to Exeter dvla, and the pair of them have been playing table tennis with me ever since. Would love to see some pics of your bike up on here too. if you get chance.

    End of tether

Much appreciated for taking some time and thought on this,DDT, cheers, I'll give it a go tomorrow. Am still vague as to which tabs the wires actually go to on the back of the ignition mind, or am I just being thick? Just realised, me being thick. I've gotta go thru the permetations.

    End of tether

The key goes in, and comes out at 10 o'clock, I could start the bike without the key, as the green wire that was in the CDI was swapped with a wire going to a switch then earth to stop the engine, I've since replaced this wire with the original wire, (green) going into the CDI.

    End of tether

I think this is what you mean, as theres nothing on the ignition itself as to settings. Just took some pics of lock 10 O'CLOCK,Off position no keys 10 O'CLOCK, OFF POSITION, KEY IN 12 O'CLOCK, ON FIRST TURN TO RIGHT, 2 O'CLOCK, 2ND TURN TO RIGHT, PRESUMABLY FOR THE LIGHTS? Cheers Nev

    End of tether

Been told by the 'oh great one who menstruates' that before I spend anymore money on "that bloody bike" (the dt)that I've got to get rid of some of the other bikes, fair enough, theres two or three bikes that are more or less ready for flogging on, one of them is a Motorhispania, that me and the lad, took on as a renovation. I'ts about all finished now bar a couple of bits to do, only I've hit a problem with the Ignition wiring, theres 6 tabs on the back of the ignition, and 4 wires, Black, Grey, Yellow, Green, I've asked everywhere, dealorships, main agents, etc but nope, the wiring diagram I have only shows two wires going into the ignition.I'm hoping that there might just be the chance that somebody reading this may have an idea of knowing what goes where, as I've tried putting wires where I think they go, but nowt. I need to sort this out, so I can both put the headlight assembly back on, and start the bike with the key. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm at the end of my tether, as the subject says, and I can get on with getting the DT back on the go.Cheers in advance, Nev

    Stopping rust

Oh aye, born in Rutland street, about 200 yards from old BBG. Mind you I notice you're at the wrong end of the Trent.

    Stopping rust

Brilliant stuff ffuf, only found ACF-50 myself a couple of months ago, not only protects but brings up vinyls, and switch gear, looking like new.
  18. Try opening the bleed nipple on the caliper just the tiniest of amounts, rather than opening two or 3 turns fully open,, failing that cable tie your lever on to the grips, sometimes the air travels back up to the reservoir.
  19. I found one in mine, and mines a 92, mikuni flatside/ flatslide someone correct me there, T132, could be off a newer bike mind, dunno.
  20. Daft question, but when you took your carb off did you take the carb off with the fuel pipe attatched to the carb? or did you leave the pipe attached to the petrol tap? I only ask because theres a wire gauze filter that sits inside the spigot on the carb that can get blocked. And not many people realise that theres one there, just a thought.

    Newbie!

Try this mate, it isn't a HPI Check site, but if you put in your registration of your bike, it will tell you the model etc, plus as an added bonus, what oil is reccomended for your bike, hope it helps. http://www.castrol.com/castrol/iframe.do?categoryId=9024084&contentId=7044829 Oh and btw, you might find introducing yourself in the new members threads, a brief intro, pics etc, might get a few more responses
  22. Cheers O.G and Phil, Phil, I know budgeting for yours may be a bit tight mate , but for something which you'll be keeping for a long time rather than just tickling up to sell on, I'd deffinately go for the powdercoating , even if it means putting back your project for a month or two while you get together the money for powdercoating,(£80 for the frame, £30 for swingarm) I've sprayed frames up myself, and it just isn't the same, with rust coming back through after a few months of the bike being out in all weathers.I'll take onboard your suggestion for jubilee clip/strangle band in putting spring back on btw, I've a mate with a 3" scar on the side of his head from a car spring "attacking" him.Plus I've a couple of carver clamps I'm going to use to hold it all.Right I'm off to get shock put back together, looking nice now all sprayed up and cleaned, hopefully I'll not put too many scratches on it getting it back together again.Pics are up on original thread.
