Im umming and arring whether or not to bring over my FZR. Import costs are pretty high but if im going to spend thousands getting a similar bike out there and probably fixing it up it may be worth it.

Hi Dave ... hopefully I will be moving to Oz next year so wondered what the biking community was like over there. Been researching a bit and it seems pretty expensive compared to the uk.

Anyone in Oz on here? Just wondered.
  6. My Sr would only do over 65 if I had a tail wind, and im a little bloke. Apart from keeping it well looked after I dont think you can do much to them. I asked when I got mine.
  7. Thanks Bob. It has since been mentioned that the carbs possibly need cleaning due to being stood, and I did plan on flushing the cooling system and checking the thermostat, sender, pump etc. Aswell as giving it a service. I was worried it was something more sinister, so I will give the easier things a try first. Cheers Pete
  8. Hi guys. Last week I took my FZR out for the first ride in ages. It was fine. The next day it decided to break down and was diagnosed as a duff battery by the AA, it was also a bit erratic on idle (I put this down to the poor battery). I put the battery on an Optimate for the week and tested it today. All seemed well so I left it running for a few minutes, until it died with the same symptoms as last weekend (not holding charge). I bought a new battery today and started the bike, which at first seemed a lot smoother on tick over but after a few minutes became a bit lumpy. Figuring the fuel had been standing a while I popped to the petrol station, and it cut out a few times like last week except it would restart today. After riding very carefully for a couple of miles the revs started to stick at 3000 and it felt unresponsive when accelerating and changing gear. It also got incredibly hot, only cooling when I got moving. I checked the fluid in the coolant reservoir which was at ambient temperature (I presumed this would be warmer). Has anybody got any ideas what could be wrong? Cheers Pete
  9. When I turn the ignition and the fuel pump starts for a few seconds before I start my bike...how loud should it be? Everyone says it is a whirr. Mine really makes an audible click click click that is quite loud. Is this normal? Cheers guys.
  10. Hi guys I would like to fit an indicator to my FZR1000RU to show what gear im in. How do I do this, and what do I need to buy? Cheers Pete
  11. How do I fit paddock stand bobbins on my 92 fzr1000ru? Ive seen loads on ebay that look like they just screw into the wheel spindle.... will these work and what size do I need? Cheers Pete
  12. Thanks for letting me know as my next question was .... where has the fluid gone? The previous owner fitted braided hoses so I thought there may be a leak somewhere. Ive been out this morning and checked it over, and wd'd the bleed nipple just in case its seized. Everything looks fine, and the nipple is nice and free, so it should just be a case of bleeding it and keeping a regular check on it. My only concern is the dregs of fluid in the reservoir are filthy, so I figure air is getting in somewhere.... should I be really concerned or just keep a close eye on it once ive put new fluid in?
  13. Thanks guys I shouldnt have any problems then... but I will check the slave cylinder like you say.
  14. Hi guys Having checked my fzr tonight and spent ages looking into its misbehaving clutch, I have found it to be elmost empty of fluid. My plan now is to replace the fluid and bleed it through. The seal on the m/c looks fine, and the hoses are new braided ones. Obviously I will be checking for leaks to determine where the fluid went, although there was no obvious fault. My question is... what is the proceedure for bleeding a hydraulic clutch? Ive done brakes loads of times.. Cheers Pete
  15. Wont that metal chair and table on the back affect front end grip??
  16. Just wondering if anyone has used a Ventura rack on their bike. If so, how has it been, how does it feel when riding, etc? I picked one up quite cheap on ebay for my FZR, as I wanted to tour a bit.
  17. What test are you taking? is it for the A2 licence? Bad luck mate. Pete
  18. Thanks Jim I never doubted your advice, I just like to know every possible differential diagnosis before I tackle a problem.... in case it goes wrong. Thank you again for all your advice. Cheers Pete
  19. Its definately the clutch plates. Done some more reading and advised to start the bike and depress the clutch lever once the engine has warmed and hold it in for 30s or more. And select 2nd, depress the clutch and rock the bike untill the plates free. More things to try...
  20. Going from the symptoms described.... being that it only lurches and cuts out when I put it in gear; could it just be a sticky switch in kickstand? I didnt check this, and being that it was stood for a few weeks it seems possible. As soon as I can I will have a look and check. Pete
  21. Thanks Jim I will give this a go. Ive checked in Haynes and theres lots on changing the oil... would this help? I had a bit of an early/senior moment and just realised its a hydraulic clutch so obviously no cable could have stretched... or could it? Cheers Pete
  22. That may well be the problem.... It is a fight to get the gears to select so I did think something like that at first, just thought it sounded daft as it was ok a few weeks ago when last ridden. I will try and adjust it first, and change it if nec.. Cheers Pete
  23. Thanks Dave I will persevere with more revs like you say. I just know my neighbours are going to love me revving the b'llocks off it then ending up on my arse.. I will be hanging on very tight! Cheers Pete
  24. Thanks Jim. Ive just been out to try and get it moving and it now wont engage 1st with out lurching forward and stalling. It does just seem like things are sticking as it hasnt moved for a few weeks... I dont use it much at all. Do you think I should just keep persevering... warming it up and trying to select gears? Cheers Pete
  25. Hi guys My FZR hasnt been moved for a few weeks. I dragged it out today and it started without too much fuss so I was very happy. Kicked up the side stand... no problem. Knocked it into first... clutch held in and it pulls forward. Apply the brake.. its stalls. It seems like the clutch is slipping slightly so when i brake to hold it stationary it cuts out. Is this just because its been stood, or do I need to break out the tools? Cheers Pete
