  1. Drewpy,, Again, Thank you very much !!. Those measurements would sure help if it's not a lot of trouble. I bought the XS400 set and I'll know in a few days when they arrive. The Gent said if they don't fit I can send them back wich was extremely nice of him.. I thought there might be a difference in diameter or bolt hole placement. Hope I luck out. Many Thanks Pard !!!

    ok....

centre - stud hole to hole = 67mm

    engine side orafice =32mm

    carb side orafice = 42mm

    depth = 35mm

  2. ok....finally got all my starting problems solved. and new a new one pops up.

as i release the cluch for 1st gear to engage you can feel take hold, but at a very slow, if not all 100% engagement (hoping this makes sense).

    What could it be?

I did a search on this topic but could not find any info.

    Thanks.

    Robert'

on the engine, clutch side, wind in adjuster as per manual then set free play 1 - 2mm at clutch lever

if no different:- clutch cable not lubed, incorrectly routed, or it could be frayed inside. for the price, buy a new one.

lastly your clutch pushrod could also be bent preventing it returning against the clutch springs.

  3. My XS360...Well, I can't seem to find any new oem or good used carb. joints, intake manifolds or carb. holders. All the same thing, don't know why so many names....

I'm either going to try patching these up,,or,,buy some new ones on e-bay for the XS400. Different p/n's. Any one of you Yamaha gurus think it's worth a chance ?. There is sure no way for me to compare or ask around here. Many thanks for the past help !!!! :hail:

you have 34mm carbs which should fit the 34mm 400cc intakes.

I can measure both circumferences on my spare set if you like? for reassurance.

  4. A guy is walking on the street, feeling suicidal after losing his job and divorcing is wife, when suddenly he finds Santa.

"Hey Santa! I'm so glad I found you! I would be so happy if you gave me a loving wife and a new job this Christmas!"

"Sure thing. You'll have all that you want if you pay a small price...", says Santa before dropping his pants and pointing to his cock.

The guy finishes-up and wipes his mouth and Santa asks him

    "How old are you?"

    "38, why?"

"And at that age you still believe in Santa?"

  5. Hi, I have been asked to paint a yamaha rd250 (think it's an early 70's model) for a friend, he'd like it done in a yamaha shade which I can only describe as a "burnt orange" shade, I need to know the exact colour name or/and the paint code, can anyone help me on this.

PM mervin on this forum, he has access to rdaircooled site and will be able to help.

  6. ive just bought a yamaha xvs 125 dragstar 2001, which ran fine when i bought it a month ago. it was sat covered on the drive for a week and when i went to start it up none of the electrics worked and the engine wouldnt start i think the battery may have gone completely flat in the week it wasnt used does anyone have any ideas on what else may have caused the problem.

Battery knackered, try charging it on an optimate first to see if it will hold a charge.

  7. That is why Yamaha specifies diffirent oil weights depending on temperature. The water temperature may be up to spec but the rest of the engine and gearbox is not. That cold and the oil does not run back into the sump fast enough.

    Wale Oil Beef Hooked!!!

  8. I have very small cracks in the intake manifolds on my XS360. It looks like a black coating on the manifolds that is cracked and continue out to the portion that is covered by the clamps..

Do the manifolds need replacing ??. Thanks again

they do age and crack. they will need replacing soon, as they will suck in air.

  9. Hi!

I just got a 2nd handed Yamaha XJ600N but it has a problem in the engine (nothing that ruins the work, only estetectics).

Here is a photo of it...

Do you think there's any solution for this ?

    Cheers!

you can use luminweld rods to build up the fins. being that many it may take a while. you can get them from Frost.

  10. WAHEY!!

Problem sorted last night. Turns out i've got a faulty ignition switch ( i knew it would be something stupid - lessen learned!) I bypassed the switch and the bike now goes again like a dream.

    Thanks for all your help.

    allan

Bloody 'ell eh!! nice one, things like that drive me crazy.

just sorted a friends bike (An "aherm!", gilera cougar) extra wiring and lots of tracing and multimetering!! (is that a word?)

  11. Bollocks.

still nothing. i'm using some earth wire i got from halfords (its actually a ground lead for an amplifier), its about 3mm dia copper flex - i take that this will be suffice? i tried moving it elsewhere on the engine and also onto the frame. still with no improvement.

while faffing about i discovered that if i hold the plug about 5mm from the engine the spark jumps the gap in a nice big spark, this says to me that the coils are ok. would you agree? but when the plug earths on the engine the spark goes back to just a tiny wee flash.

I'm pretty sure that since i've tested all the components and they all seem fine that i've done something stupid while building it up. if anyone wants to post the basic checks i can carry out or lead me to a troubleshooting site, i'd be very grateful.

i'm no very bright, but i can lift heavy things......

Im not sure that means the coils are ok as what I think is happening is, the HT primary has a bit longer to build up the power and finally jumps the gap, that is how those gizmos work which are said to improve the sparking.

you need 12V to the coils!! try temp routing a lead to them from battery and recheck spark or check fuse box for any resistance.

how are your leads connected to the coils? undo and redo the caps (are they resistance type? as you may have resistance leads as well!!)

  12. are you charging ok and reg and rectifier within specs?

    Battery fully charged?

have you made sure the earth strap is secure to the engine?

my coils checked out ok ohm wise, but heated up so much the wax melted in the HT input (sealed) try a new set of coils (£23 off ebay for pair)

  13. Sometimes it will idle and then slowly die. Othertimes, it won't idle at all and I have to keep the throttle open, just a bit. I have to leave the choke open as well (idle jet prob?!). The Idle adjustment screw on the bottom of the carbs doesn't seem to help much in maintaining any kind of idle, let alone one at 1200rpm.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    -John

PS - I am a noobie, but quick and willing to learn.

take the Idle adjustment screw out and if it is blunt (ie not pin sharp) the bottom part has snapped off in the carb preventing any mix on idle. ( very common as I've seen loads)

if it is sharp, you have a bockage in the pilot system and the carb needs stripping

also try balancing the carbs and setting timing and valves correctly as that will be the next easiest
