if you do short journeys then the engine oil will not warm up properly and the condensation does not evaporate. I'd recommend changing the oil, warm the engine up, and give it an italian service every now and then!

just keep your eye on the disk offset, and be prepared to shim. xs605's had 2 different brake systems from earlier models to later.

could be similar to my xs400 clutch in the fact that there is a worm drive under the case and the cable connects via a slotted arm. Either the nipple has broken off or the plastic "worm drive" has sheared

I'm converting my xs400 wheels over to wires with disks, they were fitted to european xs250's and Rd400's (18") and fit straight on. Sr's run an 19" front i think and a 18" rear? if you can get the hubs to fit (i used an SR500 left caliper and mount for dual front disks) then you can get them relaced onto the matching rims. drewpy

I have some values you could check with an OHM meter... spark plug cap 10kohms pickup coil 700ohms +/- 20% @ 68'F Coil primary resistance 3 ohms +/- 10%@ 68'F secondary resistance 8.6kohms +/- 20% @ 68'f If the sparks are weak, they def won't fire under compression conditions. make sure battery is fully charged. drewpy

best get a haynes manual and read that, I did see an xs400 chopper whilst browsing the other day. Unfortunatley I can't remember what the site was called. If I find it I will post. Drewpy

clubmans comes from the fact that these are raced on the club circuit, so would be stripped down to bare essentials for racing purposes. cafe racers are road bikes and were used to break the "ton" in the sixties, so needed clip on's and rear sets etc.

need to check the counterbalance system as the chains can wear. The problems occur when owners don't change the oil at regular intervals so causing seizures in the top end (and cracking the head as it overheats) never heard of a 750cc version and 4k rev ceiling would mean 50mphish top speed on standard gearing!!!! I don't have one of these bikes, and they were rare in blighty. A few VJMC members have restored one and I would advise joing the american chapter and asking there.

looks like you would have to paint that exhaust. not sure its worth making a seat, It would be cheaper to buy a glass fibre one already made and modify the frame. The narrow seats are a feature of a cafe racer.

I think it is fuel starvation also. Check that the air can get into the tank when the fuel is used, as this could cause fuel starvation.
