    how fast is fast?

Remember it is not how fast you go that will kill you it is how fast you stop, think about it. Lew

    car drivers

I am getting really tired of this site, there's kids on 50's who are all experts. Been riding 5 minutes and no doubt still doing the school run with mum in her 4x4. Going on about slow acceleration of smaller bikes, keep talking and one day someone will take notice and ban the production of these little commuters. Been driving 40 years and riding longer and trust me as %%%%%%%wise there are more idiots out there on bikes who put themselves and others at risk than there are car drivers. I had a clown on Sunday who shot past me on a fireblade coming out of a 30 Mph zone , one has to wonder what speed he was doing in the 30 zone, 50 yards down the road he was talking to the local traffic officers, I got pulled to so they could have a look at my fazer to see if it was street legal, no worries standard bike, curiosty got the better of me, so the lad could keep his licience they settled on a figure @97mph. The area we were in if it had been down to me I would have had his bike crushed, I have seen this clown before and it is only a matter of time before he takes himself out, just as long as he leaves it at that, one can only hope he will learn but i doubt it. We all know the !!!sorry didn't see you mate scenario!!! when one gets T-boned at a junction but with clowns like that on the road???. Not all car drivers are bike aware but I think things are getting better. We need to be on the ball all the time as if you have a bump it WILL BE YOU WHO GETS HURT. I believe the odds for motor cyclists getting injured compared to motorists is 35/1, as I said you will get hurt!!. Stay save, but please loose this attitude that car drivers are bike killers it is simply not the case. I urge all bikers to sign up for a bike safe course most local police forces operate these excellent courses. Grumpy oldman.

    jobs

A very open question, unless I have missed part of your topic , What age are you and what level of education did you achieve. What are your interests?. Have you considered a career as an engineer in the merchant navy or electrical technical type training. Training to become a marine engineer normally takes the form of a cadetship and involves a three year training progamme with time split at college and at sea. Eventually you would be likely to achieve an HND certificate and this could lead onto a full degree course. On qualifying your expected first years salary would be in the region of £25,000+ depending on which company employed you. I have been at sea now for 40 years and work for BP, if interested logon to their website at BP.com I think that is the website and checkit out. Hope this will be of help.

    Model Year Confusion

Hi I suppose it all depends if you are being econonmic with the truth. As in are you actually telling porky's if you advertise your bike as a 2007 bike on an AB 57 XYZ plate because the first date of registry would be ?? 1/9/07 so as far as the seller is concerned it is an 07 bike. I recently sold a fazer which was on an 07 plate but I did advertise it as an 06 model on an 07 plate. Now people out there are going to jump up and say, I had to say that as there was a model change as in the fazer 2 arrived on the seen from I think January 2007 so I would have had no chioce. But how many people would be willing to openly state that there bike was an 06 bike on an 07/57 plate if the model they are selling is still in production, I suspect not many. Lew

    R6 or R1...?

Hi A years expierence and you are looking at an R1, can I be so rude as to ask how old you are? and more to the point how long you want to live. Give your self a chance and enjoy the R6 until you learn how to handle a bike. I have been riding 40 years and the power in an R1 scares me shitle-- Stay safe. Lew

    waving of the leg

Nice one but to be honest my neighbours in France are lovely people and outside of the big cities I have found them to be polite and helpful, as long as you have ago at speaking french. I do have a go at speaking french but they do not understand, nothing strange there really as I have been speaking english to my wife for 26 years and she does not understand me either!!

    waving of the leg

Hi , Can anyone enlighten me as to the reason bikers in France tend to stick their leg out after they pass you? Is this a form of thankyou? certainly a nice jesture. A lot of the car drivers over there could do with a few manners. Do not get me wrong I am not anti French I love the place that much I live there half the year. The country is a bikers paridise especially around southwest France. Lew
  10. I'd go for lights everytime mate especially when there are blind bastards like me around driving cars. Think about it, what are the most visible cars on the roads these days, usually a Volvo or Saab. They have automatic daylights and I for one see them handy enough. I ride with mine on as being a modern bike they are on as soon as you start off. If the police motorcyclists seem to think it keeps them more visible it is good enough for me. One of the faults that lead to bikers getting clipped is the design of some modern vechicles. I have a little MPV as in a Vauxhall Meriva, the blind spots on these means you have to be on your toes. I only had it a week and I nearly clipped a kid on an old model honda he did not have his lights on could have made a difference, hands up my fault and thankfully only harm done was soiled underpants all round. I would not go as far as a lot of bikers in France do (Paris rush hour) alot of these guys run with there hazzard warning lights on, nah! maybe they have it right the way they weave through traffic they are the hazzard. Whats that safety slogan LOOK ONCE , LOOK TWICE THINK BIKE ??? Stay safe Lew
  11. Just signed the petition, not as if they will use the extra reveue generated to fill in a few potholes or remove manhole covers. I wonder if the idea was proposed by the Chief Constable of North Wales?? now there is a gentleman that LOVE'S bikers. Lew
  12. Hi just to advise I advertised my Fazer 600 abs model last week. This has now been sold elsewhere. Checkout other items from this bike I have forsale. Yamaha genuine accessories, Topbox Fazer mounting brackets, and a 45Ltr Gavi topbox, this box is a MonoLock system box ??I think, there are two type this is the cheaper one. Both items in excellent condition, they were only fitted in July 07. The brackets cost £140 new and the box was £60. No sensible offer refused but bear in mind this item will also be listed on e-bay. Items are located on Wirral Merseyside. If you e-mail about items I will give you a contact number to call. Lew

    Want to tour

Hi, Thanks for posting, went to the NEC show yesterday, get you about shaft drive etc! the FJR is just to big for me,knackered knees from bouncing down the road years ago, but looking at a BMW is not an option, they are taking the PI-S with there prices and to best honest not all things German are wonderfully engineered. Looked at the TDM 900 and also the FZ1, can get the FZ1 tooled up with fairing and panniers , supposed to have sorted the fuel management system. Will have to wash my mouth out with soap but the Suzy V strom GT(heated grips hard luggage)and the 1250 bandit GT is a hell of bike for the money even with out chasing a discount. Threw my leg over a Honda Deaveulle, a guy had to give a nudge as I fell asleep it was so boring. Lew

    Want to tour

Hi, Thanks for taking timeout to answer, I was at the NEC Carole Nash bike show yesterday and had a look at the FJR 1300's , cracking bike, but BIG. Had a chat to the Yamaha reps and as it is France I will be tooing and frowing he tells me in France the TDM 900 is king. Had sit on one and felt comfy, described as Ultra -versitle all rounder, can get panniers, good deals on them here in the UK. Also had a look at the FZ1, there are packages available for these so is also a good option. Admittedly they are a bit up and down the gearbox around town, but on the Route Nationale or Auto Routes they should run all day. I was asking the Rep if they had sorted the fuel management problems out on FZ1 and answered yes, sorted from 05 onwards. Cheers Lew

    Want to tour

Hi, I am intending to do a bit of touring next summer, heading down south of France, Carcassonne region, have a wee house there just of the D118 heading out of Limoux. Okay enough of the bull. Current bike is a 06 model Fazer abs, I am thinking of replacing it as I think running around from Northwest England to south of France a few times a year might be a bit hard on a 600 motor, Obvously I like the Yamaha brand , any ideas as to what would make a good replacement bearing in mind I am looking for something fully faired, topbox and panniers. I spotted a beauty 05 plated FZ1 fully faired but was put off as I was told these have problems with the fuel injection system. I have a budget of around 5K. Cheers Lew
  17. I'm a born again biker, back into it now for two years and touch wood never had a moment. Went the right way as in had lessons , have kept alert, cause I am a twat of a car driver and there are loads of us out there. I am much improved at car driving as I am aware how much damage a carless moment could do. One thing I have picked up on is the poor condition of the roads in the UK at least in the Northwest, Getting myself signed up for a Bike safe course run by the local police as soon as possible, everyone I have spoke to advises it is money well spent. Do not run with a pack as there is always someone who thinks they are quicker than Rossie. Enjoy and stay within yourself, stay safe.

Hi, Cracking looking bike, I have a 06 fazer600, which I love. I am looking for a touring bike as I intend to head down to France when weather gets better. I have had a look at a Honda deauville but being a 60 year old have decied I am not ready to be bored to death just yet, also thinking about the FZ1, any opinions sought. Lew
