    licenses

i'm shortly to become 17 and have heard all sorts of stories as to what licenses i can get and which bikes i can ride on them. i just need a bit of clarification over the issue. I have my provisional license and have done my cbt at the moment regards adam
  3. could anyone suggest the best type of paint for coating alloy engine casings?
  4. Next saturday im going to look at a 2002 yamaha dt 125 r. I know what sort of checks and inspections to make on the bike itself but what paper work will i need to see? This will be the first time i've considered buying a road legal bike and have no idea what to ask for. Adam
  5. if the fuel is premix then maybe the ratio of petrol to two stroke oil is wrong, that can cause alot of smoking. The ratio of two stroke oil to petrol should be stated on teh side of the two stroke oil container/bottle. Adam
  6. thanks guys i get it now Adam

    rxs 100

ebay is probably your best bet, but also try pattern part websites, these parts and cheap and available quickly (although they will not be genuine yammy parts) Adam

    YBR

this may sound stupid but have you checked that the indicators were supplied with bulbs? how do i get the cookie? Adam
  11. If the connection between the throttle cable and the butterfly valve is external, then pull the throttle right open when the bike is not running and then watch it as your let off the throttle. If you see the throttle cable become slack and the valve not move then it is most probably a faulty return spring, or the valve is getting stuck somehow. I would also suggest checking that the inside of the cabereutter is smooth and free of lumps and/or scores that the valve may become stuck on. Adam
  12. ah yes the concept of a bike may be original (excluding cheap chinese rip offs) but the bike itself is not because there are hundreds of identicle copies. Adam

    Tunning!

air filters and exhausts are usually the most heavily restricting factors on 50s Adam
  14. originality derives from the word original, and here is a dictionary defition of what original means: o-rig-i-nal Adjective 1. arising or proceeding independently of anything else 2. created, undertaken, or presented for the first time 3. capable of or given to thinking or acting in an independent, creative, or individual manner so basically you're wrong if you modify your bike then you are making it original. I don't think that factory bikes can be refered to as original because there are hundreds if not thousands of them produced to identicle standards. I just wanted to share my opinion on this matter Adam
  15. what so only oil, oil filter and air filter? Acheap air filter could be the casue of your problem Adam
  16. could anyone explain to me how auto advance systems work, both vacuum and mechanical. Adam
  17. Make sure that whoever serviced your bike used the correct standard of parts, for instance if they have replaced your standard air filter with an inferior make then this may cause a loss of power and therfore speed. Adam
  18. i think a safer bet than using wet and dry would be to use wire wool with lots of lubrication, this way you don't run the risk of damaging the valves and it will remove the crap just as well as any abrasive paper. It's actually so none damaging to metalic surfaces it can be used to remove corrosion from chrome parts without removing any of the chrome. I have had bad (and costly) experiences in the past of getting over excited with abrasive paper on valves Adam
  19. I have a couple of friends with dt's and they tell me that they arent reliable starting, is this true? Adam
  20. Make sure to take care cleaning the valves, if you scratch or damage the valves they may not seat properly afterwards and you will therefore lose compression and overall engine power. Cellulose thinners should get the majority of the carbon of the valves, but be careful not to get it on any paint work (as it is designed to remove cellulise paints). I don't know if you have WD40 in america but that is always useful for cleaning, it doesn't damage plastics, it can be used to polish chrome, it removes sticky substance from wires etc (according to the back of teh can it is also good at keeping slugs off plant pots!). But if you intend to clean sensitive electrical parts then i suggest you use a specifically designed electrical component cleaner, they are usually non-conductive, evaporate quickly and they do not leave a residue that needs washing off. I have used a run of the mill enigne degreaser on ally cases before and its worked well, but be sure to read the back of the can incase it specifies which materials it should and should not be used on. 21. a trick i've used a couple of times is using almost boiling engine oil and pouring into the cylinders, the heat makes the metal expand and the oil helps to lubricate. But be careful with the oil, it will burn and its a b**ch to get off your skin in a hurry! just heat the oil and then leave in the cylinders for about half an hour and then drain, then try turning the engine over with any luck this should have loosened the pistons. Adam
  22. if it helps i'm 6 foot 1 and 14 stone, will i manage 70mph out of any 125? Adam
  23. does anyone have any parts available for a yamaha dt100? i'm looking for in particular the master switch and the rear lights. Also any suggestions on any good sights/places i can source parts from? Adam
