I'm doing a rebuild on a 78 xs500 and want to powdercoat the rims however the rear wheel has wheel studs with what looks like rubber bushings around them. I'm wondering if it's possible to remove these so they don't get damaged when in the oven.

I bought an 82 Yamaha xs400 maxim(I'm honestly not sure how the 400's work.. there seems to be a dozen variations). Went and saw it friday, rode it about 10 miles or so and fell in love. Checked over the bike and everything seemed good.. no real leaks anywhere, just some chain oil kicked up. Starts great and rides even better. Best part is that it was 1200$ :) Since having it home I've looked it over closer and the front fork seals need replacing and the tires don't have too much left on them. Also its a terrible rattle can everywhere and it needs a panel for some exposed electronics. Going to see about ebaying that part and then I am debating sanding down the par…

Hi everyone.I am a good few years old and so are my bikes. My interests are DIY and bikes. I wonder if someone can help me with the problem mentioned in the topic. 1st of all ,the ampage being drawn on ignition is 2.8 amps, 2nd the ampage being drawn with starter pressed is 6.8 amps 3rd voltage drops as low as 6volts to the CDI unit The bike starts if you stab the starter, obviously not letting the voltage drop to such a low voltage level All earths have been replaced and connectors checked cleaned and checked for continuity. I know the bike is 21 years old but as a wise man once said to me "Every problem has a solution" New Lucas battery fitted. Switch on sidesta…

Just a quick hello to you all, I posted a question some time ago not noticing this section so better late than never i guess. My name is Shaun, 44 years old and while not really new to Biking I am new to big bikes, i passed my Mod 2 a few weeks ago and now run an XVS 650A, Ive had a couple of trips out the Brecon and Cornwall, which is a great way to really get to grips with my new found way of life, probably running into 1500 miles in the last 2 weeks, I'm thinking about putting her away for the winter (sad days) dam me for not passing my Mod 2 until September but God bless the late Summer sun that graced us right through till October.

Only registering yesterday, I thought I'd come back and fill you all in on why I ended up here. Long story short (that's a lie, I tend to bang on all the time I'm afraid) Turning 38 last week I decided to treat myself to an 86 DT 125 LC which is the bike I owned 20 years ago and what I passed my test on, something that I dare say most people on here can relate to. After looking on and off for about 18 months, I finally found a DT worthy of my pennies that wasn't a million miles away and hadn't seen the wrong side of the hedge a few times. Getting giddy on Ebay one night I put in a reasonable bid, had a can of Strongbow and then put in a higher bid and hey presto shes…

  17. Well, first off - HI ! Right. Now that that's done, a bit about me: I'm a 19 year old student from Estonia (this forum had no flag for it so I took England for I got relatives in Cambridge whom I try to visit every so often - so a bit of blood of the brits in me). I got a 1989 XJ 600 (pre-diversion, that is) that I got for free from my pa's lifelong lad who bought himself a new one and was all like "I've had it sitting for years anywho, so you can have it if you want it" ... silly man asking even more silly questions. As an almost sane youngling, why would I turn down a free bike? Its been laid down a couple of times so the right side had some scratches, a bent lever,…

Hi I steamed straight in with a question and never introduced myself. Thanks for the feedback on the tyres btw. So I used to ride up until 12 years ago when I had a big off in the Isle of Wight. Used to be a bit of a scooter boy and folded my Vespa P200 into the drivers door of a VW Passat - his fault - and between that and moving around for work, I never got back on. Roll on the years and I'm finally back on two wheels again and loving it. Managed to pick up a 2003 125 Dragstar with 4500 miles on it for £1100 so was made up. Had her imported from Northern Ireland by a guy called Phil from Acceleration. If you ever need a bike shipped, this guy is spot on, I'l…

Hi guys. Up in windy Scarborough, waiting for the fine weather! Presently running a Bonneville 850 when It's warm & dry enough! Always had a hankering for a cruiser, so may be looking for an XVS Classic to try before I finally get too old!! Are there any XVS riders within 30 or 40 miles of Scarborough?
