For Yamaha Adventure Touring and Dirt Bikes

  1. Started by zykezz,

At first i would like to say hello to all Yamaha riders Im Sakari from Estonia. But now to the point, i bought a DT125R (1999) 3MB00 to ride in the town, well my KTM 250 is not for that . The bike is in good condition done 20 000km, starts every time even in cold, best thing is i got it cheap, for 650 euros. To test it i took it on the highway powerd up and damn a restrictor kicked in at 90 kmh. So did my Googleing and got here and read the topic by Airhead (nice work ), that took me to a conclusion its the reed switch that restricts. I did everything like it was sayd in the topic (for the reed switch), took my bike for a ride and the hell, the restrictor was at 50 kmh…

  2. Im looking for either a fix for none working speedo and/or a good aftermarket replacement. My main issue though is the bike wont tick over, well sometimes it does, the timing seems to be all over the place. Ive tried adjusting what i believe to be the idle mixture screw and have sprayed carb cleaner ibto it but still no dice. Sometimes after a run its fine, other times it has to be revved to fuck to keep it going. Any advice?

Hi All, I've been slowly working on a 1980 DT175 and finally got it up and running a few weeks ago. It is an absolute blast to ride. I took it completely down to the frame the other day to clean 30 years worth of oil, mud and god knows what else off of it. As I was putting it back together last night, I noticed one of the tabs on the rectifier felt really loose. Low and behold, when I slid the wire on the tab snapped right off. I know I can get a new OEM unit from eBay or the local dealership, but my question is can I get a cheap replacement piece from Radio shack or somewhere similar? I understand what the rectifier does, and it's needed to convert AC to DC power…

Hi, does anybody know of anywhere that either does a tail tidy for the XT or one that i could 'modify' easily to fit it with a good finish? Also, if possible i would prefer to keep the flexi indicators. Cheers

hi, I'm using a flat slide mikuni from tdr 125 for another bike, and cannot be sure which pipe connector on the carb is the oil feed. there is a small nozzle near the rear of the carb next to the intake, that I thought might be an air bleed, but it could be the oil feed. I cannot see any other connection that could be it. does the oil feed on the tdr engine enter the crankcase someplace else?? any help appreciated. cheers les

  8. SOLVED - See reply. I think I've got a problem on my '78 DT175 (she started life as a 125, but wears a MX175 Top End). I'll run it by you guys though, to see what you think before I go hair-pulling. Years ago I converted my DT to 12 Volts, using a SH522 Rectifier/Regulator Combo (pretty much the same thing as the SH570 that NEO used on his UK 12 Volt Conversion). Fast forward to this year, I wanted to check to make sure everything was tip-top on the lil DT before I took her in for Inspection (to be road legal). She's only been on the road once in her life, the original owner put 50 miles on her driving it home in 1978. Don't worry…

  11. Hi I've recently bought my first bike, an XT 125 and have been told the head light is not great. Could anyone tell me how to actually get to the bulb as it looks pretty tight and can't really see a way to remove the whole front plastics. Thanks

Hello all, New Yamaha-owner from Sweden here! I've adopted this DT to use as a commuter during the winter here in Sweden, as well as to make that baby-step into some gravel adventures come spring. Just recently I discovered transmission oil dripping from I suspect either the gear change shaft or sprocket. In any case, I ordered an oil seal kit from a UK-vendor, together with a complete gasket kit to be on the safe side, as the clutch side cover gasket looked a bit iffy as well. My question though, is that seeing how difficult it is to find a proper parts fiche for this particular model, are there any other models from the Yamaha DT-range that has parts…

HI. ..probably a topic that's been discussed at great length so apologies in advance. Just purchased a DT125LC monoshock and not sure of year. Trying to set the carb and must admit to being extremely worried about causing engine damage due to fuel being to rich or lean. Bike doesn't pull away decently in first but then goes like a bat out of hell above 1st. Bike is premix at 33:1 . Have fuel screw at 1 3/4 turns out. All suggestions on air screw and other settings will be much appreciated. Also should I fit a decent airfilter as the one fitted is just a bit of stocking by the looks. Many thanks

How do from a newbie I've been given a dt125 in lue of some work and quite a few spares , first thing is I've looked today for the Vin/ engine number , i thought the vin would be on the top part of the frame near the forks, and the Engine number on the rear of the block , the engine number isn't there just a blank space (were these adhered or pinned into place or simply stamped,) after reading threads on here today about powder coating this frame has been coated and i cant see anywhere any numbers. Just thought id check it out before working on it , and how can the above be rectified, I have no v5 and don't know the registration. Thanks for any help

  20. Started by Mr Riggs,

Hi. I own a 2011 XT660R and while wiring up my tail light did a very stupid thing. I know it was wrong I had my ignition on and while wiring up my tail light one wire accidently touched the black wire causing a click from the right side of my bike. I nearly kicked myself as I did such a stupid thing. I checked the fuses as the indicators and tail light stopped working. No blown fuses. So I took the right cover off and there I replaced the indicator relay thinking it had blown. But still no joy. No indicators or tail/brake light. No light in headlight when ignition on. But headlight comes on when started and horn works. What else could this idiot check or have popped. …
