so, my restriction is due to be removed on my lincence in june, and i was thinking of getting a newer bike as an upgrade. Currently got a 1997 XJ600n, and that is about as "sporty" as im wanting, dont realy like full fairing race/sports bikes like the r6, r1 ect - dont find them suitable for commuting 60+ a day. any ideas? i quite like the xj6n, but wudnt mind something with a bit more power availability. . thanks

Hi all, DT was running majorly lean from when I bought it so after a month of riding it melted the exhaust side of the piston, grey/white deposits in the engine etc, needless to say the barrell took a beating, I want to keep the rebuild as cheap as poss so want to rebore. I have found a couple of companies but not sure of the quality of their work.. I have all the ability at work to machine the bore oversize but not to hone it ( don't have a hone big enough ), I also have the ability to measure it all to the Nth degree, which I intend to do after the job is done. I don't mean to sound anal about it but I want to get the job done right because I want the most o…

I noticed this year when my road tax renewal came, it did not give me the option of 6 months only 12! I assume this is to stop people taxing for the summer and putting on a sorn for the winter and so dodge the new insurance rules ?

Well after passing my test on Monday I actually got out on the bike this evening. The intention was to go to Willingham Woods and I set off to my mates home where we would set off from. Half way to his home the heavens opened up! Bummer. Got to his home and had a cuppa while we waited to see if it would stop. it didn't and I ended up riding back home again in the rain. All in all it was about a twenty minute ride and I was soaked at the end of it but it was worth every minute to be out on the road on my own bike. and I have stopped shaking now.

My bike has to live outside at night and I rusted my old YBR by always putting a cover over it as soon as I got home. With my nice new XJ6F I'm allowing it to cool off first (which in the recent warm weather has taken more than an hour). Anyway tonight it's raining so the bike is wet, I've let the bike cool off and have put the cover on (an Oxford Stormex). Tomorrow I don't need to use the bike and it is going to be raining for some of the day. So should I take the cover off as soon as it's daylight to let it dry/get more wet and hopefully dry again i.e. give it more air...or should it be okay slowly drying under the cover? Thanks in anticipation of …

Hey guys - check out my intro in the intros section. Picking up my new bike, an XVS 1300 Midnight Star, in a week's time. It's my first cruiser; previously I've only had standards (H100S, CX500) and sportsbikes (GPX750R and Thundercat). So my question is - how different will it be, riding a cruiser, particularly a relatively big one? Are there any hints and tips that I should know and bear in mind in order to make life easier for myself? Thanks guys!

Where would be the best place to post a thread about making up special form screws made in stainless, (you know the sort of thing, changed all the corroded fasteners on the bike and there are a couple of annoying ones with big heads, shoulders or weird threads!) all i would need is a sample part to see if viable to make? Cheers machineshed!

I posted this in the new introduction section as well. Sorry for the redudancy. Hi, New to this forum but not to bikes. I'm thinking about getting an older 2 stroke and have settled on either a '73 RT1 360 enduro or a '79 DT 250F. As many of you know these are enduro street/trail type bikes. Anyone have an opinion one way or the other? If you do I would appreciate your input. Thanks, Dave

Hey guys, I finally got my motorbike delivered about an hour ago ( ) but my main stress at the moment is securely locking it. I live in a closed compound with an onsite car park (with a ramp road block system), and I am parking my bike in my bay, but there's nothing to lock my bike to to secure it, and the disc lock I have for it doesn't fit through the front disc either (I have the Fahgettabout chain and that D lock doesn't go through it either). So at the moment, the only peace of mind I've got is a chain going around it, that doesn't actually lock to anything. I've asked if I can park it next to a lamppost to secure it, but my car park is patrolled by wa…
