'FAIL' 'FAIL' Get with the times, 'DEFERRED SUCCESS' Not allowed to say fail nowadays
  2. I remember seeing a prog about a cat in a hat, wonder if it's the same cat. I also read a book once that stated that our world travels through space supported by 4 elephants balanced on the back of the Great A'tuin (a huge turtle). Well that is of course if we live on the discworld
  3. Well this thread has livened up. I've been riding bikes since 1981 and have never kicked a mirror off. I have got off my bike a few times and set up for a fight but the car driver usually drove off. This was a few years ago when I was a pup nowadays I try to focus on whats happening up front and not behind me. FWIW, I think the biker in the clip was the architect of his own downfall there. We have all made mistakes either on a bike or in a car (well I have anyway), he should not have given chase

    HELP

Different bike, same symptom My auld Speedtwin had that same issue. I had stripped and u/s cleaned the carb. When I started it it would tick over but cut out when attempts to rev it. When I had reassembled it, I had put the needle in the wrong setting. Reset it and problem solved. There is an auld saying that 90% of all 'carb' faults are electrical and 90% of all 'electrical' faults are carb related so dont get fixated on the carb

Congrats mate, now the learning curve really begins
  7. As above mate, here's hoping for a full recovery. Like kev, I had to get mine, a rottie, put to sleep last year, and it took a while to accept it.
  8. Righto folks After fitting the new battery on Saturday, the fault has returned, so obviously that was 40brick wasted. The battery is not charging and the bike is starting to misfire and stop running if you try to run the lights so whats next, if it was the rec/reg wouldn't the lights keep blowing (or not?). This maybe leaves the alternator stator...Anything else folks
  9. I would round off the bottom corners using either a router or planer. This would make it easier to roll over

Well up early this morning, out a run then sitting enjoying my brekkie whe a letter comes through my door. My local planning dept have had an 'enquiry' regarding my shed. Whilst I had planning permission, a condition was that the door did not cross the footpath. I have transgressed this by about 6". Anyway after a RANT to no-one in particular, I calmed down and called the planning dept. Unfortunately one of my 'neighbours' had sent in their concern re planning permission. they obviously would rather have this than this The shed is now all painted and the area tidied up, but obviously not good enough for the auld cnuts that live around here. Looking at the first pic, that bush only leaves about 18" of the walkway, incidentally the rest of the bush at my neighbour fence is still there, whereas I have cleared all mine leaving a full footpath. Anyway after calming down I spoke with the planning guy and I will need to rejig the door opening, either putting in a bifold, or sliding system.
  11. Battered by a sheep, then posting said doing on t'internet....oh the shame
  12. Welcome to the nuthouse mate, and with your project, it looks like you belong here Good luck. I would usually say stick a new battery in, an oil and filter change, some fuel and see if it runs, but from your pics thats a wee bit away.
  13. dt The manual says at 5k revs the output should read between 14v and 15v. Once ticking over again the v dropped back down to around 13v
  14. rjh I had a similar experience, although spookily, I was on the model of bike you now run, xs250cw. 17yrs old, one month on the road and jumped a stop sign. A quiet little village (at the time) and early on a saturday morning so I was really unlucky that someone (a mk111 escort) was coming the other way. A broken arm, bruised kidneys, headache from parents and 3 endorsments, remember them, on my licence....oh and a bike that I still owed just under 3 years finance on, gave me a good lesson in my roadcraft for the future.
  15. Bought a new battery, charged it up overnight connected up and fired the bike. Gave it a bit of revs (no rev counter, straight through zorsts and Sunday afternoon don't go down well in my bit of quiet suburbia ) and the multi meter was reading 14.8v, so hopefully it was the battery. Looking through the receipts from the PO he bought a battery just over a year ago, but it only cost £16 so I'm thinking cheap shit
  16. Well here's an update Gave the bike a plugs, oil and filter change. Rear plug looked fine, the front had some fouling. Anyway the bike started easily, he took it a run and came back happy. Two days later I get a call at work telling me the bike had started to run rough, gave a few backfires then broke down, and there was no power in the battery to turn it over. Later on I went to recover the bike, there was just enough juice to start the engine, he rode home and told me that when he used the indicators the bike would cough and splutter. I put a multimeter across the battery and it only showed 10.4v. It wouldn't restart so I couldn't check what it read whilst running. Picked up a new battery today but I'm thinking the reg/rec may be duff. Another thing I noticed was the main fuse (20A) was misshapen as if it had melted at some time Any thoughts on charging system and fuse
  17. Never had a wasp in my eye, but I pulled a hare out my arse once
  18. Cheers for the explanation Tt I was thinking along the lines of wedding rings, bracelets and things like that

    Defecting!

I agree with Tommy. Stick around mate, they didn't hold it against me when I got rid of my xjr. Oh and the YOC is much better than some others I visit. No real bitchin or backbiting. Some ribbing, but we all give it out and we all take it back
  20. Just back from a wee blast on it. Got the bike up to 75mph which is not bad as its restricted to 33bhp Under hard acceleration in top it has a bit of hesitation and an occasional backfire At one point there appeared to be a bit of clutch slip around 50-55 Finally gear linkage appears stiff. Ive ordered new filters, will pick up plugs and give the bike a good service. He still has his leak around the starter motor, so I've picked up an O ring as well and will get that sorted. I'm of the opinion that a good service is what it needs
  21. Cheers mate Yea before his last bike failures, the cdi would have been my last thought, but usually now it one of the 1st things I think about. Now just about every 'running issue' post on here, I think cdi.
