i need new fork sliders, mine r well pitted and a few scratches.. there used to be a bloke did xs650 bits here but unfortunately he passed away,, now, apparently, the shops been taken over by someone else and its called palma tuning,, when you click on it it tells you its still being updated, now, its been like that for months and i tried phoning but got no reply.. i know the xs650 shop in germany rudiger paustian and mikes xs in u.s do parts for xs650 but they want a small fortune for posting heavy stuff,, i was wondering if anyone had any info about this palma tuning or any other place in the uk that do xs650 parts,, any help would be appreciated,, ian. btw my forks are 2" over ie. 2 inches longer than normal. if there is nowhere i guess i may have to just get them rechromed.

at the bottom of the forks, where the axle is clamped in place,, is there not a big bolt in there going up the inside of the fork keeping the inner fork in place? if so, take the wheel off and check its tight. its the only place oil could be coming from other than the caliper seals, brake pipes, or the fork seals or the drain screw. there is nowhere else. the inner cable from your speedo couldve just fallen out it would be very foolish of someone to risk getting nicked just for that,, more than likely they would half inch the whole bike. talcum powder and look for the wet spots the best idea..

stick to the speed limit , it must be fast enough cos the goverment said so, and they cant be wrong, can they? of course if your not one to listen to 'the man' because 'they' want to control you then wring its neck till you sh*t yourself, then you now how fast is fast, of course you dont want to be 'dangerous' so consider all the circumstances, weather, wind, road condition, other motorists etc, and this from a guy with ten points (all for speeding) 'if you had kept going i'd never have caught you' said the nice officer in his 3 ltr bmw, 'i'll keep that in mind' says I. 'so what speed was i doing?' 'Dunno but i couldnt keep up with you' careless driving and the twat couldnt even tell me what speed i was at .. too fast when i passed him. i know i shouldnt have but it was a nice day , no traffic, three lanes of empty road ... well, empty except for mr rozzer.

check the float hieght if theres not enough fuel in the float chamber it could be struggling when you open the throttle but will run fine at tickover/ low revs.. worth a try since you seem to have everything else checked. and that top box is waaaay too big

i,d give the chain on oiling too, check the tyre pressures, probably an idea to go over the checklist in the manual if you have one, then a good blast to blow the cobwebs away....

noticed a lot of 'we' did this and 'we' did that,, who was 'we' ? how much did yer dad help you? dont get me wrong, i mean its a great job restoring it, full credit to you laad,, when i was your age,,, back in the day.... restoring a bike was the last thing on my mind , if i recall her name was jackie,, but i just wondered how much of the restoration you actually did yourself.. since your taking all the credit for it.....

loud pipes save lives...... you could remove the exhaust cans and just ride it with the downpipes, would definlately be deeper but you will need deeper pockets too to pay for all the extra fuel you would use , jetting it up to cope would be fun, there is a baffle end piece thingy you can get that fits in the end of the downpipe, similar to the baffle in a dirt bike expansion can, a mall hole drilled in the end of the downpipe for the screw that holds it in place ,, try m+p or here here £4.95 not bad
  13. gabby replied to mits007's post in a topic in Yamaha Customs
i wouldnt,, if anything i would see if it was possible to cut right round the outside edge , remove some of the sound deadining round the baffle, put the baffle back in and weld the outside edge back on, though it seems like an awful lot of work just for a deeper sound, i dont know about passing an mot with big slots and holes in the end of the can,, would probably depend on where you go for an mot, and whether the guy is deaf or not.

insurance companies dont try and rip us off do they? maybe they think you should just go out and buy a nice second hand volvo,, after all ''if it wasnt for those pesky bikers,, maybe insurance would be cheaper what with them falling off and having cloaking devices'' and such.. oh yes,, of course, tell them to F**K rite off and replace your bike with one of the same value, you could always add '' or the boys will be round, and you wont like them when their drunk' best o luck.
  16. duly signed, even if it is for london and i may never park there, its still for biking, so ive done my bit ..

its soon the summer and many a rider will be dusting off the bike after its stood in the shed for the winter while the cars been getting used.. just remember the close shave you had last year that made you remember how vurnerable you are?? ok not everyone but probably most will have had something happen that made you think twice,, so remember it well, it'll keep the fact that car drivers ARE unreasonable and sometimes unforgivably stupid ie smidsy,,right up there, so avoiding them is as instinctive as rememberin to shake it when your done,, dont ever be complacent and cover that front brake approachin junctions etc cos you never know.... ride safe folks.

If i buy the tyre from m&p can i take it to the yamaha dealer by me and get them to put it on? Should i take the whole bike or take the back wheel off and take them that? Cheers again for everyones post, really helping me out!! dont go to a car tyre place like national tyres etc cos there crap, take yer back wheel off, get it, and your newly purchased tyre, to a reputable bike shop they'll stick it on for you for peanuts,, hence the term, monkey wrench he he, but at least you'll know its fitted right , balanced etc, properly.. and thats good mileage yer gettin , i replace my gixxer tyre at 2 thousand cos its usually a bit ''tyred'' by then..

the first bike i ever rode was in 1980 i was a 14 year old laad and a friend o mine knew a farmer with a yam 175, a dt i think, long long time ago, twin cylinder job with lights an everything, when yer 14 anything that gives you a buzz like that.... o twas great fun batterin it round a field doin jumps etc.,, so i'd say thats deffo a good one, also did the rd250/ 350 thing for a while they were good, screamers if i recall, then there was the rd 350 lc ,,yes, and the ypvs came on the scene he he the look on someones face when you give them a shot and 'forget' to tell them about what a powerband is lol., i had an rd500 lc marlboro replica 'd reg' in 1989/90, you crack that baby over 5 grand and you know your on a bike, i overtook and humped a brand new gixxer 750 on the island that year on mad sunday, stopped at the finish line and had time to light a cig before the guy stopped beside me,' whaat the f**k is that' he says, its only a 500 mate oh but its a 2 stroke he he,, that was definately a good one, but now i've sort of mellowed and you know what, there all good in my opinion, the best one is the one YOU own,, obviously.

i agree. if they did make every learner take a cbt there is the added bonus that they may actually like riding bikes and go out and get one, so many people say 'oh you wont catch me on one of them there too fast, too dangerous etc., but as we all know, its not the bike thats dangerous......and it only goes as fast as your right hand,, ahem, the bike that is..

looks a damn sight better than mine, at the mo i've still got the mag wheels on it , trying to source a pair of spoked drum brake wheels but they seem to be scarce. trawling ebay etc to try and keep the cost within a budget but i'll bide me time till i get them.. when i got it it was complete, at least it looked complete, but everything was painted red?? on the strip down i found at least half the bike was bodged together, stripped threads etc, apparently the bloke lost interest.. he'd have been better leaving it in bits, i mean who the hell puts the carb intakes on a bike with metal glue?? personally i prefer to use bolts lol good luck with the build,, i'll be keeping an eye out for the photos of the finished article.

ufo,,i notice you have a battery box on there,, have you thought of running it batteryless?? im in the process of building one not unlike yours but i got an rd350 magneto, which with a little modifying to the backplate fits straight in, basic chop wiring, regulator from a z750, its got points and a capacitor to replace the battery, havent finished it yet but it should work i think... certainly leaves the frame looking less cluttered,, gabby
