well this is strange, wired in the new pickup coil and it didn't spark again. shortened the lead and it sparked! got continuity in the loom, so maybe its the ohm thing. got the engine going, but wouldn't rev at all, pulled the carbs but they were clean (from the last job) I do have another pickup but its 290 ohm with 1.5acv as opposed to 98ohm with .8 acv any thoughts on using that one?
-
I always like to clean the engine before I strip it, bolts etc get stick on the grease and get lost. did you put some oil down the bores or was that already there on the stripdown? you don't want smoothbores but a nice 45' cross hatch hone for oil retention

found me spark; combination of things 1) couldn't get to fire manually off battery, so took off the caps and the spark was very weak. even though Dyna say it doesn't matter which way the connections went,I turned them round and got a better spark. 2) kept the 5k caps on and resistor plugs as both = 10k ohms which is correct for the bike 3) tried an R1 pickup/trigger coil and it gave our 1.5volts, 3 times the old one. this told me that the one I have must be faulty 4) there was some rust/paint on the raised parts of the mag, so cleaned them up with wet and dry 5)installed a new trigger coil and got spit back out of carbs, so got sparks. still need to wire it in properly, but its had quite a downpour today so hopefully will get out tomorrow and see what's what she's not running as yet, but at least I'm getting there

I got irons from Stafford s few years ago, £10 for 2 paid for them selves a couple of times as helped a few peeps out changing their tyres
-
unfortunately its worth about £800 to £1k tops there just isn't the love out there for them.

if the gear moves, its worn. I had to drill the hole larger to accept the pin and drive it in. being spilt it will deform to fill in the wear.
-
please read my post above re:pins

Can't wait to see your handle bar videos in different countries

ok I managed to get a spark from the dynas off the bike taking out the 5kohm cap and resistor spark plugs and using a nail instead I've earthed the TCI in the right places to the frame and confirmed its earthed. basically the TCI is a posh earth switch controlled by a chip to change the frequency of the switching.

yay, well done
-
I was taking off the neg, will try the feed (+)
-
I'm off tomorrow, so in the mean time
-
sorry Tommy not this time
-
its directly with the battery, new wires. 12.6 volts. how long do you have to hold them to charge? and do I collapse the feed or neg?
-
sounds like clutch slipping then. hope you didn't put car oil in carbs will be gunged up so won't help in a smooth tickover
-
TCI def work, couldn't get the coils to spark manually, but couldn't with any of them (4 sets) even the originals which do work. There is no power to the pulse pickups, they generate their own power no immobilisers fitted, got an led to light on the pulse coils So what am I doing wrong if I can't get them to spark manually as 4 sets wont work and they are wired directly to the battery

its because there is no fluid, the seals have a hard time pulling it through. most suck it through via the caliper and once you get a fair amount of fluid going, it should operate as it should. Took me 2 days on my twin caliper setup to do mine. do a search on the forum as its a common issue.
-
well that didn't work wonder if 0.4 to 0.5 AC volts from trigger coil is correct?
-
cheeky fecker! I had a piranha on the tracker but it went down on 1 pot. I did get one made which used the points as a trigger and was really reliable. I got it from Germany but he has stopped building them. I have got plans to build your own if your up for it? try Pamco Pete on mikeXS http://www.mikesxs.net/product/14-0999.html
-
hope your not puling in the clutch to kick the bike over, otherwise it wont connect to the crank.
-
there was a site where that sold M/C seal kits by size. lost the link in moving computers though so you'll have to trawl google. It was an artisan web page not from a main stream site.
-
I'll try anything at this juncture
-
done a good job there considering what you were working with! now come over to my gaff and get this engine sparking
-
to the YOC As slice says, post workshop problems in the workshop/classic bike section please!

looking good, although toecutter would berate you as he rode a kwaker
