  1. Put all your weight on your right foot while pushing down the kick starter and show that YZ who's boss. If you can't get going cold you don't have a chance starting it hot. You can do it, we have fourteen year old boys starting the YZ 450F.
  2. The engine is from a 1975 DT 175B.
  3. Go ahead and change the neddle and seat and if that don't solve your problem you might need to look into your ignition coil. If the bike is flooding ,fuel should be flowing out the overflow pipe. Or it can load up like you are describing.

Thats the going price for round slides, call Sudco and they will sell you the exact carb for your bike.
  5. Your plug gap is too wide, change to .22" and run the oil mixture @ 32:1
  6. What plug are you running and what is the gap setting, also tell me your fuel to oil ratio. 170 main jet comes standard in that bike.

No sir they do not. The DT 400 uses a CDI Ignition and the DT 250 has a points Ignition.

They are old and not very good when they were new. I personnaly would not waste my money on these old electrical parts. If you want to be original you will pay close to the same price and the bike might run for 2 days and your down again. The PVL is modern electronics with factory warranty. Just make sure you ground them properly.

The battery must have a full charge or the turn signals will not blink.
  10. Yamaha's description of that part is "Collar"

    I use PVL ignitions.

If you have gear oil inside the crank area you probably have a leaking crankshaft seal sucking oil into the 2 stroke side. You must have a good seal on both sides of the crank shaft. Do a pressure test.
  13. I use Spectro Gold 80wt in all of my two stroke transmissions. The 2 stroke oil lubricates the engine and the spectro takes care of the transmission and clutch.
  14. The IT Yamaha's are competition enduro bikes, they do not have the autolube system and are not legal for road use in the U.S. anyway. I have a 1986 IT 200 and it is close to performance of the YZ except with a wider gear box ratio.
  15. Someone will be getting a very nice 250.

Your battery also needs a full charge for the lights to work other than the head light.

Same puller as the 1976, You need a 27mm x 1.0 left hand thread puller. They are readily avaliable.
  19. The correct switch for your bike is black and a two position only.

AT2's are 1972 models and are 125 cc bikes.

Have you tried a new spark plug, you may have fouled it puttin around.
  22. Well then for you the best and least expensive way to go is to find a points stator assembly from a 73,74 DT 250 Enduro. The PVL will be around $400, But NOS parts for your bike will be close to that if you can find them. And remember the parts are still 35 years old. You may spend that money and your bike runs for one day. The PVL works.
  23. Learn from my experience with 36 year old CDI units that were not all that good when new. Don't waste any money on them. Go straight to a PVL Ignition.
