Yamaha xj600 (pre diversion) rear brake
I used a grease nipple, I think it was a unf thread so not an exact fit so don't go mad and wind it right in it was just a gash one I had at the bottom of my toolbox, then just attach a grease gun and pump away until the piston is pushed out Other calipers may fit but I have no idea what ones

XJ600 new exhaust, 4-2?
Hi peeps I think the time has finally come where no amount of exhaust putty will hold the XJs' tatty old Motad Neta 4-1 exhaust system together... ive been looking around for replacements but have only been able to find the same Motad Neta system and a Predator 4-1 system personally, i like the look of 4-2 systems better but as of yet have been unable to find a 4-2 system for the pre diversion XJ, does anyone know where i can find one or if i could fabricate my won? the downpipes from the old Neta are still in good shape, its only the mild steel collector box that has gone rotten. cheers peeps, input appreciated as always - Foameh x

Foamy's New Toy, XJ650 Turbo :)
have continued work on the turbo project, with creative use of a hammer and chisel the turbos mounting nuts have been removed, as have the turbo manifold nuts but im having a lot of trouble seperating the turbo from the exhaust manifold, it just doesnt want to seperate, and i cant remove the downpipes and turbo all as one unit because the exhaust clamps are ciesed onto the studs solid. im planning to use an aftermarket exhaust system when i rebuild this bik but im still reluctant to cut the old exhaust to bits

Foamy's New Toy, XJ650 Turbo :)
This friggin turbo is doing my head in!, i was down there all night with a dremel and a f*cking big bar trying to free it but to no avail, and whats more my dremel has broke, but i did spray up a few parts, one of the brake calipers, headlight surround, footpegs and a few other bits and the airbox/inlet, got a few pics which i will upload at some point, need to buy myself a f*cking great big hammer and chisel to get this turbo bolt off... Have managed to find an aftermarket exhaust system for it, aswell as one for the 600, doesnt exactly look original though...

that what i resorted to doing merv but he saw right through it, new back tyre on ebay for £15... hopefully i will get it without having to pay another £70 for another conti-go that wears through in less than a year, cant see why my car tyres last over a year but the bike tyres dont... oh, also when taking apart the rear shock and its brackets i noticed something... where the top of the shock brace mounts, on the left hand side the bracket has cracked along the frame...

that tense moment...
well these things happen i spose, was kinda rushing it tbh, and it turns out that "new rear tyre" was actually the front one i bought for the XJ Turbo... its an inch too feckin big... should'a checked before i started but hey-ho...

that tense moment...
nah phone ran out of battery. the fucker failed... excessive play in rear shock absorber bushing, LH fork oil seal leaking, rear tyre below legal limit (personally, i think it is ok for now, but the tester said otherwise...) it just so happens i have a new rear tyre ready to go on, but in the absence of a tyre changing maching ive spent the last hour belting it with a hammer, shoving tyre levers into it and was pondering cutting the old one off with a stanley knife, and the old man is hogging the lathe tonight so not much chance of being able to bore out and re-bush the shock linkage, looks like im going to miss my re-inspection tomorrow, then i will be back at work, and pretty soon the 10-day free re-test period will be up and i will be another £20 down the pan, brilliant. so for the time being im back to driving the fecking car, which will make me even poorer... time for beer now

that tense moment...
Well peeps, its that time of year again, the trusty old xj is going through its mot as I am writing this, the exhaust putty put on last night has done its job, the dodgey indicator has been cleaned out and repaired and the leaky fork seal has been wiped down, so here I am sat in the carpark with a cigarette and a cup of off-smelling nescafe waiting for the result, contemplating life and the mysteries of the universe, are we really alone? Are cats actually robots? What did batman and robin get up to in the batcave when they weren't fighting crime?... I need to stop thinking...

Foamy's New Toy, XJ650 Turbo :)
Well ive decided to spray the frame in gloss black enamel, as per the original spec, have managed to get my hands on a dremel so hopefully will get the turbo off and the engine out next week along with the exhaust (or whats left of it atleast...) started spraying a few bits and pieces aswell, the rear frame that holds the tail light assembly, the calipers, the airbox, sidestand and a few other odds and sods. stay tuned for more info...

Foamy's New Toy, XJ650 Turbo :)
Another point to make, after a lengthy chat with one of the bike club seniors i am starting to look for alternatives to powdercoating as ive been told when the powdercoating becomes damaged it leads to eggshelling and ingress of water under the powdercoated layer, has anybody ever tried any other alternatives and how did it work out?

Foamy's New Toy, XJ650 Turbo :)
Well peeps this weekend was spent mostly working on the XJ, often heading down the shed at midday and not leaving until 1 the next morning, but it paid off and this is the current state of play with the 650 only a few minor problems... exhaust (or whats left of it) is ceised on, the nuts that hold each branch of the manifold onto the collector/turbo inlet are rounded off so now i need to buy myself a disk cutter... on the bright side, i did manage to drill out the rounded fasteners holding the remainder of the fairings on, also in the absence of lifting equipment removal of the engine is going to be a pain to remove as im only a wickle bloke and its a big lump. other than that, the bolts that hold the turbo on are ceised on solid and i managed to round one off, and because they are in such an awkward place i cant get at them with an angle grinder, need something like a dremel with a tiny cutting disk on it

Crash bars are a good idea, I picked mine up cheap from the clearance section of an internet shop and not only do they look good and protect your engine and whirlybits if you ditch the bike but I think they offer a bit more protection for your feet\ankles if some muppet was to bump into you whilst filtering Grips are also good and make a fair bit of difference, use with handlebar muffs for best effect, I have mine wired into a relay which picks up the field current from the alternator (bassically they won't work unless the engine is running) Lights are personal preferance tbh, I think more about being seen
