  1. ah yes there will be bubblewrap and cardboard everywhere, like a masacre at a shipping depot
  2. well peeps its been a while, less than two weeks now and i will be tearing into that turbo getting it ready for powdercoating/painting/rechroming, havent yet managed to find a decent new-old-stock 100/90-19 front tyre (got myself an avon roadrider for £15 for the XJ600 though, sweet!) all the bits are waiting at home, everything from the brake pads, caliper seal kits, the new seat i got from america, even a load of PJ1 cans!, its going to be like christmas day when i get back!
  3. i come here to escape reality... when im on here i ride a GPZ900R, have black hair which is usually waxed into some sort of "slightly messy yet respectable" style, i also have a set of aviators that i wear whilst racing down runways with no helmet on... i can dream... can't i?
  4. what model and year? i would be tempted to suggest slector forks or drum, but ive never really dabbled much with gearboxes so i am unsure exactly what it could be, im sure theres other members who are more familiar with your bike though :0 - Foamy
  5. Hmm, im a bit aprehensive about leaving the cap loose at 80-100mph, if it happened to come off theres no telling what damage it could do to other road users/pedestrians/pidgeons... another thing ive noticed is that it may be heat related, when it dies and i pull over the heat radiating from the engine isappears to be more than normal, will get an accurate reading for sure when im back
  6. This is relevant to my interests
  7. BWJ - it aint a divvy ya loon! its a pre-div, ya know, the good ones Cynic - where is the tank vent located and how can i get to it? on my DT there was a plastic tube coming from the cap but on this one theres just a fuel cap, is theres some sort of screen filter on the petcock or anything like that? Jebb - sorry i think my wording came out wrong, what i meant was that the problem occured a few months before this date (around end of april/beginning of may), wheras the carbs were balanced a few months prior to when the problem started (feb/march time)
  8. 2 black mediums please paypal waiting - Foameh x
  9. Hey everyone im itching to get back to the UK and take my trusty rusty XJ out for a spin, but before i left i was having problems and id like to try and get to the bottom of it before i start thrashing it like a loonie again. at high speeds (80-100) for extended periods of time it would die, almost asif running lean, during this time if the throttle is closed and opened gradually the bike will recover and run normally up to about half/3-4 throttle, on the first incident it cut out and would not run right until i had left it to stand for about 2-3 minutes, after which it appeared to be fine (by this time i was riding through the town, not at speed). i also experiance a lag when opening from part to full throttle at speed, it will cut back before running up to full power and takes approximately 1 second from it cutting to recovering, i have done a plug chop and to no avail, spark plugs look like overcooked cornflakes which (as i understand) is good. it is running a motad 4-1 system, everything else is stock, theres plenty of oil in it and its never done it to me before up until a few months ago, carbs were also balanced a few months ago as always any thoughts appreciated gents,
  10. Well im up for it and ive booked that day off work, just need to know what sort of return timings you are planning so i can get the bookings through
  11. i meant the Great Dorset steam Fair, www.gdsf.co.uk i wasnt aware of the Lyon rideout but im currently posted overseas for a while, if i remember rightly there was a pub called the Red Lion somewhere near me which frequently had biker nights every wednesday night, will look in to the Paignton one though, even if its just for a little roadtrip
  12. nice to find a place thats near to me lol, will see you in there at some point im sure
  13. Hey everyone, im looking for some meets in the south to attend from mid-July, would be a great opportunity to meet some of you crazy people and possibly some of you sane people aswell, cant make squires unfortunately as it clashes with the Great Dorset which i attend annually.
  14. Hey bud, im only up the road in newbury, let me know if your planning any meets ro rideouts some time and i will see if i can put in an appearance
  15. cheers for the info Knight, im still itching to get back and start taking mine apart, got it all planned out on a spreadsheet down to the stainless steel fasteners
  16. ive got some ebay cheapie heated grips on my '89 XJ (pre diversion), they are good in the winter and now i wouldnt ride without them, they have a high/low/off switch but i usually ride with them on high or off other than that, i have a set of cheapie tracky top and bottom set that do the job fine in mild downpours, but anything heavy or sustained tends to seep through, as do my dads pair of '80s HG leather jeans that im still using (after over 2 years of riding, sorry dad), got a Tuzo leather jacket from busters for £50 about a year and half ago, an oxford "cold killer", a balaclava and some HG gloves which are well worth the money hope this helps Foameh
  17. Cor'Blimey, that really making me want to get home and start working on mine... where did you get the decals done and is there any way you can get the original paint codes? also, is that right-hand silencer the original? or "repaired", thinking about welding mine back up with a bit of fabrication

  19. blimey Knight, lets hope i can get my "working parts" to look as good as that!. i think i will stick with the original clutch cover for now to keep it as original as i can, as for the cases after seeing how good your have turned out im going to paint them instead, the handlebars will be powdercoated though, isnt really much point in rechroming them as they are going to be hidden under a plastic cover anyway, or i could get some "chrome in a can" from halfrauds lol and no 2-wheels, i havent finished it yet lol, im still out of the country, but im now stockpiling parts ready for when im back
  20. 53p and a chance of being robbed... tbh i honestly have no idea...
  21. Vic: just curious, what sort of money were they after for that turbo?. ive decided to get another used tank aswell, should hopefully have most if not all of the parts required when i get back to the UK, then its a case of stripping everything down ready for powdercoating, was considering getting the engine cases powdercoated but is it really worth it and will it look right?, also the handlebars were chrome plated at one point but most of it has flaked off, since they are going to be hidden under a cover is it worth getting them re-chromed? im not looking to get the bike to concourse condition but as good and as near to original spec as i can get it for under £2,000
