  1. Its only a thought but i just wonderd if the revcounter was reading slow thats all. Got to cover all the bases eh.
  2. Engine oil 10w/30 .63-.74us qt (6-700cc)at oil change 1.23-1.41 us qt (7-800cc) at rebuild plug gap (B9ES)=.6-.8mm .024-.032in Chain 40-50mm (1.6-2.0inch) Measured (approx) mid point between the tensioner and the rear sprocket and make sure the tensioner works ok its supposed to be greased at regular intervals but often gets forgotten. Hope that helps
  3. This any good..... motorcyclecarbs.com item 6043 £8.95
  4. Baron You posted a problem then told us all you'd fixed it, as for the post about your bore i nearly answerd it yesterday but had to get some kip, I start work at 3. But as far as it goes a 175 piston may fit but you will need to measure up carefully as you obviously have a 175 big bore on that bike. Right streaky sorry about that i have a thing about high horses. If you could post the wires that you have at the cdi we can probably work it through, Yamaha are as reluctant to spend as anybody else so if it works they leave well alone and back when your bike was a lad looks were all important so as the loom is not important to the look of the bike it is more than likely a quick upgrade on the old stuff.
  5. Funny it stops. How fast are you going in top when your flat out? To check the resistances you need an ohm meter/multimeter and then at the generator connections (RH side behind sidepanel next to the frame )check the resistance of.... Red to ground 13.6ohm+-10% Brown to ground 420ohm +-10% and White/red to ground 12.4ohm +-10% Ground can be any GOOD earthing point on the engine. They should be separate bullet connectors next to the multiplug. The white/red is the pulse coil or ignition trigger (modern replacement for the points) these can cause problems if they are worn.
  6. If it revs to 7200 the cases havent got any oil in them. Don't take this the wrong way but the carb is fully open when the throttle grip is full throttle. How does it rev in neutral, right out or does it still stop at 7200? A check on the resistances on the ignition primary coils may be prudent.
  7. Woah hang on, surely blaming the bikes or even Yamaha themselves is a bit much when its a shitty dealer at fault. Just look up a dealer thats reccomended by others on somewhere like this site and give them a try.
  8. I've said it before and i'll say it again, one bad dealer pi55es in the pot for all of em but the only person that works onmy bike is me. When i was crossing the mountain at the IOM i knew my bike was as good as i could get it and was happy to screw the 150 odd mph out of her. Can you say the same barwell? I know some people have limited skills where spanners are concerned but i don't feel that is an excuse i've got the bloke next door to me competant to do his own servicing and any big stuff he gives me a shout. If you can read a manual you can do it yourself.
  9. RD 250LC VM26SS (4L100) Main jet=190 Needle jet=O-6 Jet needle=4N10 Needle jet position? idle jet=20 Slide cutout=2 Air screw(turns out=)1½ Float=21 ± 0.5 mm First question 1, no not by yamaha. 2) Yes if jetted properly and not like its original configuration above. 3) Yes if jetted properly, you may be VERY slightly down on power but the smaller carb will increace torque. 4) Yes i think a member called oldgitonabike could be very intrested in a swap. 5) Its the internal venturi diameter, its awquard to check accurately so prob best to trust to the id no for now.
  10. I've known this before the most common cause is the cdi, the 79 model uses 2 source coils the later model uses 1. Count the wires into your cdi, and check if you have a red. The systems dont mix. You need the right coils for the right cdi.
  11. The plate on my suzuki...... Its not what you ride, its what she charges.
  12. Cynic

    Number plate size

Take it somewhere else if he gets upset over that, as far as i can see the garages that give just a little like the one i use are far busier than the really anal types that would query the plate. Something like wheels brakes etc fair enough, but the plate being alittle too small
  13. AAAAAAArrrrhg, why do people start lots of threads on the same sodding problem. Its the aircooled motor from the 80's but the 165 jet is far bigger than anything i've got or can suggest. As said in the other thread its built under licence in vietnam. There is a bigger version with a 180 lump based on the old 175. Other than that i'm done.
  14. There is no such thing in the uk but there were vietnamiese (I think) copies known as RT's and commonly badged as DT's probably under some sort of licence. The aircooled DT stopped being made in the early eighties, the last UK/US spec i have for the VM24SS is 125 for the main and a 5GL8 needle with the clip 3 groves down from the top. Weather that is any good for your bike i cannot really say, your climate and fuel/oil quality may be different to mine. Sorry can't do a lot more.

    Freezer time.....

You are a master thats f'in hillarious.......
  16. Yeah it was a few years back on mine went for MOT without indicators cos i was sick of smashing them up, smart arse said if the brackets are there the indicators have to be. Ha 20 minutes with a grinder and they were gone, back to the MOT within the hour for the retest. To be fair i was well into trail riding at the time and i laid her down far more than the wife To be fair the first things to get mullerd if the bike goes over are those bloody indicators, or you kick em to death with your boots.
  17. I know one was raced on the island and didn't disgrace it's self. Cant remember who buy tho, a father son jobbie who own a bike shop.
  18. Hey anybody know how long you can keep chicken in the freezer i thought it was 3 months, The one i put in there last night was dead this morning........
  19. MMMM looks like someone has amputated your indicator brackets like i did with mine.

    Brit F1 success

Funny how it wasn't boring when Lewis was winning every race going. Even if his team were not helping at times....
  22. I can do you a complete chain tentioner if you want. Second hand but complete and in pretty good nick TBH.
  23. Odd question..... The nut will come with the cable.

    Brit F1 success

Anybody else a bit irritated buy the press ALREADY going on the 'If jensen is winning all the races its boring line'. WTF are these idiots on, we have a brit in a brit car in a brit team giving the rest of the worlds best a can of whup ass. The Germans and Italians were insuferable with the sucess of their respective Driver/car combo and Murray would have kissed the ground Shuey walked on. But no not us brits, oh no he wins a couple of races and its boring, have we no pride left or has the bloody country really give up.
