Ijust bought a 1982 Yamaha 100 enduro and know nothing about bikes. The bike runs great but the red oil light under the spedo is on when the bike runs and I do not want to damage the engine. The oil tank is full how do I know if it is a bad sensor or if the oil injector is not working? Can I add oil to the gas tank and pull the small line off the carb from the injector to see if oil runs while the bike runs? Is ther something I can do to know if the injector pump is working?

Ok, on my 175 the oil light comes in neutral, so you know the bulb works.

Does it go out in gear?

If the tank is full of two stroke oil, you may have a dodgy connection or sender in the tank.

This is where clear oil pipes from the pump to the carb are useful... Because you can see if theres bubbles or oil going to the carb.

If you black oil pipes you can pull the pipe off the carb and see if there is oil there.

Id be reluctant to put oil in the tank as your bike is probably jetted for autolube, and will run lean if you do.

Whip the pump cover off, make sure everything is rosy.

Thanks for the info. After putting it in gear the oil light went off. The motor seems loud to me like piston slop or the rod on the crank being noisy. There is a plastic cap next to the kick start and the chamber is empty. Is this for the transmission? What kind of fluid or weight of oil do I use. There is a bolt wwith a gasket on it and a spring underneath the carb on the left side if you are on the bike. What is this? There appears to be oil or fluid here. Is this something I need to oil?

Dt engines are always rattly. I was amazed how smooth my.rs was in comparison. I think merv has already cleared up the oil situation....

Post a picture of the spring thing you speak of.

As for the transmission it's is not suposed to be filled to the top, below the cap is there a sight glass? or does the cap have a dip stick attached when checking the fluid level the bike needs to be up right not on the stand.

You should pick up a manual for the bike and read it
