Hi, I bought a brand new 11 plate Yamaha YZFR-125 (2010 model I think) on March 1st, lovely bike, had no trouble with it, until around 3 weeks ago I reckon, when it began "burbling" in 1st gear, it didnt stall, but the engine didnt sound like it was doing many rpm, yet my idle rpm said 1.5k, it sounded clunkier. Well I rode it Saturday 21st, Sunday 22nd washed it, started it up, it was below the 1.5k rpm, got up to it, and then went down and stalled. I tried again, got it fired up and stayed at 1.5k. Turned it off.

Monday 23rd it doesnt start, the ignition is making the grgrgrgrgrgrgrgrgrgr noise but it just wont open the engine and get it going, the one time it did it sounded CLUNKY and painful (for the bike!) and cut out. I got an experienced motorbike owner to try it out, he opened up the throttle and tried, same game. I just tried today again and its worked, and it appears to be holding the 1.5k, but it is clunky sounding at times.

This surely isnt normal for essentially a BRAND new motorbike.

Wearing in:

Never go over 6k revs, I did VERY little above 6k, sometimes when I was concentrating on the road more I went to 6.5k, maybe skimmed 7 for a milisecond, but 99.5% of the first 600 miles was under 6k revs.

I dropped the bugger in March, real annoying I know, but the fairing is cracked, not scratched, it was reported to the yammy dealer so they knew it happened in March.

I have extremely rarely ran it in the red tachometer zone, once or twice I dont quite succeed in hitching it to 6th gear (tis only a 125, gotta be quick or the powers gone! lol) and shaved into the 10k-10.5k region where I assumed It was in 6th and opened the throttle all the way.

Overall my riding is I would say from looking at other 125 bikers, quite nice, I do have my fun days where I accelerate fast, but I never usually get anywhere near the red revs, only time I do is on dual carriagways and need to go 60mph-70mph, but usuall its gears 5-6 for that which is 9-10k revs max.

I would say I treat it well, not as perfect as other bikers could, but its not bad going.

I wash it by getting buckets of water and (slowly) dropping it over the bike, I then spray on muc off (diluted) and wash it all down with a mit and bucket refills and gradually rinse it all away.

From my knowldege motorbikes should be almost entirely waterproof, otherwise its a bit silly to have the engine cut off during the rain!!!

I am taking it back to dealership regardless even now it works incase its a fluke and I do more damage keep riding it while somethings wrong with it, but has anyone ever witness this before?

Also will dropping the bike invalidate my warranty? The fairing damage is obviously a drop, not a slide, because its cracked, not scratched, and its been working impeccably for 1-1.5 months after the drop. But you know what professional companies are like, theyll try and save money anywhere, TBH I am begrudging the idea a 2.5 month old motorbike needs any kind of high-key maintence, understandably oils, coolants etc, I've been keeping on top of that, but no way should any decently constructed vehicle begin being temperamental at startup when only this old, the weathers warm too! I always ensure the engines warm before running it too!
